- As the front woman of Bikini Kill, Kathleen Hanna was the pioneering figurehead of riot grrrl-the feminist punk movement that went overground in the early 90s. Since then she's gone on to found Le Tigre and The Julie Ruin, continuously creating art where honesty and activism are the throughline. Her best advice is, unsurprisingly, straight to the point.

I found out about Bikini Kill today and I'm a fan now.
Good, because they just reunited! Also make sure to check out her band Le Tigre, and her 1998 solo record 'Julie Ruin', it's amazing. Not a huge fan of her new band The Julie Ruin, but extremely happy she is back in good health and making music again! (:
Oh, and since you like Bikini Kill, also give these bands a listen (they all consist of Bikini Kill members and are very much in the same vain): The Frumpies, Spider + The Webs, girlSperm (sometimes styled as gSp) and The Casual Dots! Kathleen was also in a band called The Fakes, who released one album in the mid nineties, called 'Real fiction'. All amazing bands and records!
And give 'Pottymouth' by Bratmobile a listen as well, ofcourse. (;

One of the best, at least from the number of outrageous compliments given by listeners, vocal performances I had was at a show I didn't even want to do, but decided to just show up and go through the motions for the cash. No warm up at all and jumped into a rather challenging song within the first two or so songs and found I could do no wrong that night.
Getting out of your own way AFTER you have done the work (the part most people skip) is the ticket.

While some people cannot see through the character or the specifics of the situation. What she is saying is applicable to any materialist. The guy who thinks he needs the fancy car to get the girl, or the workman with skills who doesn’t have some big business machinery in his arsenal. It’s a DIY aesthetic.

It’s WHY we have VC in business, it’s the WHY behind Business Accelerators in major fortune 100. Because R & D while once extremely useful, requires certain perimeters to BE applied with any value. The mindset is different. It’s why governments are inherently wasteful if they get too large and bureaucratic. It’s why colossal mega corps like GE failed to innovate. It’s why the British lost the American Revolution. It’s why America will fail if government doesn’t slim down.
That said, China or any large country is diverse and that diversity is it’s strength.
