I enjoy playing as Rome in Civ V because it's not that focused as a civ. It allows me to adopt whatever playstyle I want. In Civ VI , it will be even more amazing
+Ian Levinson Being Japanese I've always wanted Japan to be my main civ. Problem is that it's always been either underwhelming or painfully average. This time I'm hoping island based maps are on par with Pangaea so we can have Japan thriving on pacifist playthroughs and Norway on aggressive ones.
Viljam Maes Nah, the game probably started in the Classical or Medieval Era. This allows cities to receive more tiles to compensate for the turns skipped in the Ancient/Classical era.
The difference in the forts is that since they are now instant, if your legion is in trouble it can insta build a fort to improve its defense, then fortifying the next turn could easily turn the tide in a battle. This as oppose to waiting 5 turns to get a fort in a location that the enemy MIGHT come. Also I never wanted to build them on my improved tiles because it took so long to undo, but you can also undo the fort the very next turn if you have a builder.
Rome seems quite strong. As I wrote on the official thread, I usually play on marathon speed, so in a way, those free buildings are going to be even more significant. I'm still leaning towards Norway or Greece as my first civ, though.
Yeah the whole time he was going on about that I was like, "well... they could already do that." But I'm not sure if what he followed up with was implied, but not that corps are a thing, forts do have a sort of more specialized use now. It'd be cool to see the speed of fort fort production increased if you have a work stacked with the Legion.
There unique unit also can repair mines farms, camps etc it's very useful when plundering city's improvements before you take it. Also if it rebels you can replunder All the city's improvements. I know you could just bring a worker but if your on marathon speed. That's hard to come by.
-I don't like the Trajan's Column ability because: A) If you want to become a military-expansionist civilization this may not do anything because you get the building on founding a city, it seems like taking a city wouldn't do that then. B) Since it's usually a monument, that basically makes this a culture bonus. I don't know about anyone else, but when expanding in Civilization as a military civilization my first priority isn't to build a culture generating structure. Sometimes I, for a long time, even just skip building the monument in favour of other things. It doesn't speed up those other things at all, so saying it gets the ball rolling faster is kind of not true. -And I don't like the "All Roads Lead to Rome" ability because: A) It's only within range of your capital's trade routes. Which puts at least somewhat of a cap on how wide Rome can grow. B) Providing it with gold and trading posts seems very economic in nature. I've never really seen Rome as being an economic powerhouse. -I don't like the baths because: A) Well, obviously the replaced aqueducts strikes me as kind of odd. B) From what I've heard so far, more housing is especially important if you're trying to grow a tall empire. Rome is by its nature expansionist and a wide empire, even the other abilities go towards that. As such I find it a very, very odd bonus. The ameneties make sense though.
They said the bath house is an upgraded version of the aqueduct, it doesn't completely replace it which they should have made more clear in the reveal trailer.
I think that the reason why they made so many changes and made Rome so good was because Rome never really got to survive the early game if they don't go crazy expansive, but now, things are looking good for them...
Drew come on. Rome didn't make the aqueducts but they improved on that technology, ancient Greece had them you know. And you completely missed that the Bath district which Rome has actually has an aqueduct inside it, so think of it more like that their aqueduct district also has a bath but doesn't replace the aqueduct. You shouldn't do these silly mistakes Drew :)
The bath replaces the aquaducts. And rome created them... I remember in civ 5 wher the portuguese special unit, the Nao, replaced the caravel. And portugal created, the caravel xD
I just bought civ 6 and Trajan is causing a lot of issues. Thinking about going to war, but I wanted to know what the Legion unit weaknesses are If any? Or what's the best tactic to fighting them? I've been looking around but I can't really find anything. Thanks man.
I just today ordered the Civ 6 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, I'm so exited for this game. Played the franchise since Civ 2 and have played every version for at least as many hours as I clocked in Civ 5 (thanks steam for confronting me with this awesome and at the same time kind of embarrassing stat: almost 2800 hours 0_o) Anyhow! I'm a Civ junky and desperately need to get hooked on the new stufff #Civanon #onemoreturn
Its always Caesar and/or Augustus. Rome lasted for over 1000 years and had more than two leaders. I mean the American leader changes almost every time and they have only been around for 200 years.
The city where Trajan was born was called "Italica" that means "Italian" becouse it was the first settlement of romans and italians in Spain and Trajan's family was from Todi, in Italy, so Trajan was definitely not spanish
It's too bad. They really do need some Malayan-styled civ in the game for once. That part of the world doesn't usually get the recognition it deserves as a major center for some very interesting civilizations.
Rome still has the aqueduct, look behind the baths in the still shot. It's like the baths are just an addition to the aqueduct.
@GIULIO COLASANTE yes
Love your Civ-6 videos.. Keep up the awesome job.
They already clarified that the Aqueduct is a part of the bathhouse, you can see it behind it in the image.
Automatic monuments seems like a huge boost. It sort of feels like the single biggest nation ability in so far.
People, the aqueduct is BEHIND THE BATH HOUSE. Look at the picture.
I'm so glad Drew is still making videos--my only other option for crack is unreliable (Katie from CollegeHumor)

I think Rome is the best Civ announced so far, if you intend to go for domination victory (who doesn't ;) )
I'm happy about Norway.
Japan is my favorite for war so far because I like maps with a lot of coast and they get a production bonus plus stronger districts
+Ian Levinson

The bath is an enhanced aqueduct. You can still see the structure in the background.
@GIULIO COLASANTE Then why is there an aqueduct there?
Did I just see cities with more than 6 tile borders get placed at 1:42?
You did
in the spain one a city's boarders expand after it is captured, idk whats going on.
Could be the monument giving so much culture immediately that the city expands on the same turn it is established.
Viljam Maes Nah, the game probably started in the Classical or Medieval Era. This allows cities to receive more tiles to compensate for the turns skipped in the Ancient/Classical era.
2:24 remove forests to spam infinite legions to clear more forests to spam more legions etc. worked for me on deity
Legions could build forts in civ v too drew
He made an annotation.
Jake plays he was smoking crack man

Look behind the bath there is a huge aqueduct
Legions could build forts in civ 5

Thanks for the Analysis, Drew. I'm now leaning toward Rome for my first play through.
Rome's leader looks like the current doctor from Doctor Who.
They said the bath house is an upgraded version of the aqueduct, it doesn't completely replace it which they should have made more clear in the reveal trailer.
Roads! Roads everywhere!
Rome is great. I started playing with them few days ago and I love it
I think that the reason why they made so many changes and made Rome so good was because Rome never really got to survive the early game if they don't go crazy expansive, but now, things are looking good for them...
vid length is 4:20 marijuana confirmed
Jackie Skillet but he also drinks weed
4:21, actually
4:20 actually

The Roman legions were able to build forts in civ 5 too Drew

Only just noticed the border aesthetic in the sea.
I love that! They also do it for the compass which appears when you select a unit.

Did anyone realize how long the video was its 04:20 hahahahaaahahahah thats funny
What can forts do? Also im new to the franchise

Hopefully roads will actually well.... be roads and not a bunch of loops or whatever happened in Civ5 lol
The loops were so messed up

The great wall of forts
OP!
That thumbnail....
Yeeaahh Trajan. Firaxis Games recognizes
New Alexander hah this aged well
It can also build forts in civ 5 Drew!
i wish trajans leader abilty would be more militaristic
Rome did not invent the aqueducts, they just made alot of big ones.
Legions in Civ 5 can also build forts!!!
But these are instant
The Sumerians invented the first aqueduct.
You do know the legion could build forts in civ 5 also
No they couldn't, they could build roads only.
+Konplayz they could build forts ,ik because they were my fav , but since they can instantly build, its more useful
They couldn't build forts... Wtf are you smoking?
+Konplayz go play the game or look for you self, quit being a troll
if you really believe that way, you obviously haven't played them that much
Wish augustus was the leader
No, Caesar
Jack de Reduvo yes it would have also been cool if it was caesar
i was wishing for constantine
nero would be cool too XD
Its always Caesar and/or Augustus. Rome lasted for over 1000 years and had more than two leaders. I mean the American leader changes almost every time and they have only been around for 200 years.

Rome is going to my first civ to play maybe the Kongo
Alexander was actually added:(
''the internet never says funny things''
Damn it i hoped for a pila throwing legion
About Alexander...
He straight up denounced me because I spawned near him
Trajan looks like ceaser

hey it's jeff from athleanX
Rome if it not broke dont fix it
Mongolia, Persia, or Saladin (Arabia) will be next
Arabia, Sumaria or Russia. They are the only civs left.
0:00
Now it will be Alexander from Macedonia that will forward settle the crap out of us.
Now we have the first gay civ leader civ 6 is coming out to be very diverse
I'm just sad that there is no mogolia or persia
These characters models just throw me off
This video was almost 4:20 minutes long
I find it weird that we dont get a Ottoman civ.
You don't know that, they are just slowly leaking the ones they think are the most interesting :P
CamTheKitty The Civs in the game are known.
civ 5 rome was op, until they nerfed their UU
Lol. You could also "chop" out new legions too, with a legion. ^_^
u said lapid
I play as Rome to call my friends dirty barbarians.
When they attack you, do you say "absolutely barbaric".
@@rossonerican97 Of course I say that, damn that "holy roman emperor". He is just a glorified barbarian, what kind of emperor die drowning.
what? Civ V rome just got bonus production speed in capitol, it was everything...
Rome in Civ VI is way better
Far tooo cartoony and kiddy = YUK!
Have to say it...........
First
You are on my end. good job
Primus

Doubt it since the full list of civs has been available for months and they aren't on it.
It's too bad. They really do need some Malayan-styled civ in the game for once. That part of the world doesn't usually get the recognition it deserves as a major center for some very interesting civilizations.
The next announcement is Russia
I'm just sad that there is no mogolia or persia
