    This is the very first I've seen of a Chinese discipline using any weapons against each other in a sparring capacity. I think it's super cool, I train with a variety of different weapons, but I've actually always wanted to learn how to use the jian.

    It's disconcerting how many people _refuse_ to recognize the movements of Tai Chi as blocks or attacks in martial arts...

    • @mugenGRTC
      @mugenGRTC  2 роки тому +6

      Even worse, those who say it isn't a martial art because they aren't qualified to practice or teach it as such, and want to self-promote themselves to teacher rank.

      How about the people playing modern sticky sword (yes, it’s modern, there are zero period references to this practice) and calling it fencing? It’s like someone training some push hands and thinking they are street fighters. It’s martial artsy, not martial arts.

      The Tai Chi martial method by itself never seems to do well in fights.

      @@redclayscholar620 In 1929, my teachers teacher, Zhang Qinling, won the all China Fighting Championship after winning the Shanxi provincial championship. You might also like to stop in at a school like a William Chen’s in NYC. When it comes to swordplay, our students practice full contact, free swordplay with real weight weapons.

      @@redclayscholar620 Unfortunately, Taijiquan has been largely hijacked by those without the skill or determination to train this martial art as the founders did, and instead present it as some sort of therapeutic daoist heath art so they can self-promote themselves to teacher rank. That has never been the case at GRTC where sanshou has always been an active part of the training, as is free, full contact swordplay- facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152514940552076&type=3

      It's easier today, there's the Online Program where literally hundreds have gotten their start, then add the In-Person Seminars held throughout the year- www.chineseswordacademy.com/jianfa-online-sword-training

    If anybody here was not aware there is a martial art called HEMA.

    • @mugenGRTC
      @mugenGRTC  2 роки тому +3

      Sure, I think everyone has heard of HEMA. Did you know that this Chinese Sword Work, with Full Contact, Free Swordplay as an integral part of training, has been going on for over 20 years?
