How to get back on paddleboard for fat people

- I'm 6' tall, 300lbs and decided this year I wanted to try paddleboarding. I found out I couldn't get back on my board if I fell off since it's a 8" thick 15psi inflatable board. Try pushing that under the water and shimmy yourself on.... it's a real bitch. So I couldn't find any videos on UA-cam showing an easier method so I made my own.
I really wish you had more videos about how to handle these things! Big girl here, love my kayak and always trying to make sure I am safe with it. I thought your modification was perfect! Don't be ashamed of your weight, you're out there living your best life! That you so much for the video and tip.
Thank you. I always forget i put this video up. I can't believe the views it got. I have so much fun paddleboarding.
Thanks man. I have shamed myself on multiple occasions trying to get back on, like a walrus in mating season. Always with a skinny dude saying, "just get back on." Vowed to never get back on...until now. Appreciate it.
Great vid just you have your paddle backwards 😬
You got this!
@@julianhart4841 everyone thinks that but it’s actually the correct way to paddle a board.
Me too, man! 😅
I come back and watch this from time to time, I’m glad I took one for the team lmao. Bring fat can be embarrassing, but somebody had to make this video
Dude This video is PERFECT. I'm about your size and I will make the same modifications to my board when it arrives tomorrow. Already bought the stuff I need. Super video
It is what it is, I feel ya. I came here trying to decide if I wanted to get one of these boards because I'm not skinny lol. Might give it a go. Haha
rock n roll my fello big man!
You did good, man.
I had to learn the hard way, when i got my board i ordered it around Christmas time and couldn't wait to get out on it. It was the first week of April in upstate NY i went out for the first try regardless of the still very cold water. As soon as i feel off the first time and had to swim back i knew i had to mcgyver something up. The foot holds really help get the leverage and the knotted rope helps pull the board under you. Sorry i couldn't be an attractive in shape guy for the video, but us fat people like to have fun in the water as well!
you are a legend!
How much you pay for that paddle board?
@@myuploadsvideos i think the package was only 575 back then, but it's much higher now, maybe $799
Amen!! I am a fat girl and I want to paddle board. Thanks, you rock!
@@Malledeus86 What kind of board is it? Have you a model #
thx great vid!!!
Thank You! I installed my own Fat Ass Recovery Technique (FART) system this morning and it worked like a charm. I recently learned on a hard board which is much easier to get back on. I bought an Aqua Marina Atlas inflatable but could not get back up in deep water. A friend found your video, we watched it, bought some rope, and had a functioning FART in minutes.
You totally win the internet for me today! The video and this comment. I to am having similar issues maybe now I can FART in the water with confidence now.
Patrick Saucier i am excited to install my 💨 FART! System!
Thank YOU! You know who else this is helpful for? Gen-X ladies (you do the math), like myself, who don't have loads of upper body strength. I HOPE if I keep trying I might be able to get on unassisted someday, but you know what burns out fast, in the middle of a deep lake, besides my puny muscles? Hope.
This was really great.
Thank you!!!! I was so bummed when I couldn't get back on my isup. I went and got some cheap dock line and tied it up like you showed and it worked like a charm. I can now get back on my paddle board!!! My abdominals are pretty sore after practicing it several times...
I'm a weapon sized woman who likes to sup. I've been out about 10 times on mine and still not been able to get on my feet. My big belly gets right in the way. You made it look elegant. I will keep trying!! Thank you for making this video
Thanks so much for this. I rolled my fishing kayak for the first time today, in probably the worst place possible - 10 ft of water, surrounded by heavy weeds and 100 yards to the shore. By the time I got everything untangled, my boat flipped back over, and ready to get back in, I was so gassed that I couldn't do it like I practiced, so I had to fight my way to shore for the next 45 minutes. This idea could work wonders for heavy guys getting back on sideways - run your foot line over the opposite side and under the boat, so when you step, you're pulling the other side of the boat down as you pull yourself up.
I was thinking about this because then you would have only one rope instead of two. Have you tried it?
Kudos for this. You don't have to be 300 to find getting on the board hard. Relevant to anyone trying to get up on the board
thank you for watching
this is the only practical advice I've seen on this subject...as a 62 year old normal size female wearing a PFD (as I paddle solo) it's just as challenging...can't wait to try this myself!
You're awesome! I've been afraid to try paddle boarding because of this exact reason. This has made me less worried.
It's so easy even a caveman can do it... I'm a caveman lol
Great idea! Thanks for having the confidence to do this helpful video.
It is a great idea for any kind of body, I am 71 years old and this is for me
Brilliant! My weight has made me avoid paddle boarding for this very reason. I’m game to try! Thanks SOOOO much for posting this!
The best most practical real "get back on your SUP" on UA-cam so far - thanks
I needed this! All of it, haha. I also struggle to get back on my board. Love the idea and thanks for the laughs along the way! You said what all of us bigger folks are thinking stuck out there in the middle of the lake, lol. 😂
Good idea. I have been interested in SUP buy terrified of getting stuck and having I swim back to shore because I couldn't get back on.
Adri SZ did you end up getting one?
Awesome trick, thank you! Really interested in getting a paddle board but I’d want to periodically get off to swim/cool off and I had no clue how I’d get back on the thing. The lakes near me are lined with private properties and going to shore to get back on is a bit awkward. This makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Thanks for this, I have just ordered a paddle board and did worry about how I'd get back on the board when falling off. This is a great idea and one I will be taking forward as I attempt to learn paddle boarding.
It’s easy to get on my 4” thick board without aids. But I also have a Tower iRacer which is 6” thick. The 6” or more boards are difficult to get on no matter what your size is. I use a rope stirrup (bought it on Amazon) to push myself up from the side of the board. I attach it to the middle handle on the board. Then I put my foot on the stirrup in the water like you do. And then grab the middle handle on board and then grab other side of board. You still need to kick with the other foot to thrust your body forward on to the board. And, I have seen this demonstration from the back of the board before and it is another easy way to get back on the board. Thanks for sharing!!! Love the humor you added to the demo!😂
Wow after watching this video and reading all the comments, i am confident now!!!!!! Going paddle border for the first time tomorrow, pray for me!!!!
Thank you so much! This is such a helpful video for us big people. I just won a contest and chose a paddle board as my prize! Now I know what to do when I fall off. 😄
I'm over here watching this multiple times hyping myself up mentally preparing for next month SUP experience here in Sydney, Aussie. So nervous and excited lol.
This video is great. We need more of this! Cheers Mate.
Thanks a bunch.
Just giving you some love! I'm athletic but obese, and I get so disheartened that fat people just throw in the towel when I know that there are ways for us to enjoy activities such as this. :) We just need little hacks is all.
I know this is late, but it looks like it's still a relevant topic! Two suggestions.. get a leash so you aren't chasing your board - especially with no pfd, and two with a couple little velcro one-wraps both the foot rope and the center rope could be coiled up and secured to the D-ring and center handle. Could avoid possibly entangling your feet with you fall, which could be big trouble! Thanks for the idea.. obviously that's why I'm here.. I have the same problem!
So simple but easy! Can’t wait to try!!! Thanks for sharing!
Super idea for any body type!
This has literally got me back in the game! Thank you so much for posting. Cheers, all the way from Dublin, Ireland!
You're a legend!!! Thank you! I've been supping for the last month and this was my biggest concern, so I would never get too far from the shore. Trying this tomorrow.
It worked out!! I used only the one from the middle and it worked great! Thanks a lot buddy!!!
Glad to hear it worked out! I’m the author of the video but have a different UA-cam name now.
Thank you for making this video! Being a lady of a certain age, and rather round, I quickly discovered that I could not get back on my new inflatable board. But your method did the trick! Easy!
You are my hero. Today was my first day on my SUP, I've never done it before. I never thought it would be so difficult to get back on in deep water. I was a pro getting on in shallow water. I wasn't too far from shore, but it was murky shoreline and I really just couldn't get back on. After trying for 10 minutes I decided to make a go of it before I got too tired and swim across lake towing board. Thank god it wasn't far or I don't think I"d make it. Going to get rope tonight!!! Look forward to trying this tomorrow!
Thanks so much! Bought my first SUP today on a whim. Headed out to the lake tomorrow and this will help me feel much more prepared! Have a good week! 🌊
Yooo this was amazing, I just lost 50lbs I'm still 230 though and imma need this 😂 I go up to Herkimer County often in summer let's all go paddle!
I love that you attempted it. I've been thinking about it as long as this video is old. Good for you!!!!!
Dude, you rock for posting this. I just ordered a paddle board, this will come in handy.
Great video! I have a friend that's over 300lbs and he's been wanting my help with this exact scenario. Sending this video to him. Thank you!
This is awesome and ahead of your time 😆✨ thank you for the help
Also you stood up so fast on the board like 🙌🏼
I am a fat girl wanting to start SUP. I bet I will look like a sea lion! It’s going to be awesome!
Thanks so much for your openness to share! Very helpful!
I appreciate you for making this!! I did it myself and it works like a charm!!
Thank you..I'm looking into trying paddle boarding..this gives me tons of hope!
I have the same board and same issue. Seriously I can't thank you enough
You have no idea how much I love this
YES! I have been trying and trying all summer long with zero success! Thank you so much for posting this! I’m def gonna try this method!
Thank you so much for this tip....I cannot get on my SUP...tried very hard. Have to swim to shore and shore is never far...but...am so going to try this! Thank you!
Simple yet genius! Great job and keep on paddling man.
Fabulous- thank you. I fell off today, day 4 of paddle boarding and heck I struggled so hard to get back on. Will try this.
Same problem!! Love this vid. Inflatable boards are especially tricky as they are so much thicker. Gonna add some rope to my board before I go out again.
Thank you for this! I have always wanted to try sup'ing but have been too afraid of not being able to get back on if I fell. I really appreciate this!
Good idea! I would caution to stuff and store the rope in a mesh bag to avoid entanglement. On moving water(like a river), a rope bag is a must!
Great idea, I wasn’t sure how I was going to get back on. Thanks for the video!!
Hey, really appreciate your video. I tried and just could not go back on the board. Right before thinking of give up, saw your video! Will try your way, thanks again!
Thanks a lot for this video! I panicked yesterday when I discovered I was not able to get up on my touring sup and though I never sup again, but I will try this. Thanks again!!
Sir. First I HOLLERED at “get your fatass on that board”….🤣😂 but THEN I saw the improv strap and I screamed “You Fkking GENIUS!”😂😂😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼GOD BLESS YOUR ENTIRE ESSENCE!
BRILLIANT! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video!
I was looking everywhere for a video like yours!!!
Thank you.
Regards from Germany 😁😁😁
Hey! Thanks for this. Just came across it and was wondering how I'd stand up if I couldn't get one knee in front of me like all the thinner folks show. Really appreciate it!
Thanks so much for sharing this. I've got CP and I'm looking to try paddleboarding, a HUGE concern for me was how to get back on the board in the middle of the damn river. Great idea!!!
no problem glad I could help out
This was great! I have a hard time getting my arse back on the board. I will try this out.
I love this, Thank you so much! I just got my first board and have had some real anxiety about trying to learn to get back up on the thing if I feel off in the middle of the lake…. While in front of an audience. I am so trying this to see if it helps.
This is really helpful, thank you. Had my first go yesterday. Took repeated dunkings like a biscuit in tea and then realised I couldn’t get back on. It was hilarious, but unproductive. I am fat, disabled (unable to balance on dry land without walking sticks) and have a nasty shoulder injury, so I was utterly hopeless. Feeling less hopeless now, I’m off to dig some rope out of the cupboard…
Thank you so much!! I'm super new to paddle boarding but I lost a lot of confidence when I realized that I couldn't get back up once I fell off. I'm going to try this next time I go out.
now that getting back on is sorted (love it) I have to say I'm impressed how you then stood up and adjusted your feet without a wobble. I can't move my feet even a fraction without going over lol. more practise needed 😁
That board has a weight capacity of 700lbs, so it’s very sturdy even with me on it. It was retired this year though, I got a 12.5’ board to replace it also from Tower.
It might not be your skill. I got a cheap paddle board and I could barely paddle it kneeling. Then I used the resorts high end board and it was so easy to stand up. The board matters!
great video im also 300 lbs this should be a great help getting back on the board, thanks for posting it
Thanks for the video. My husband and I have a new found interest in paddle boarding. What better way to experience nature while addressing our health concerns? The video was super cute and informative.
I like it. Good to see a big dude out there paddling too 👍
Love that you made this video. Thank you!
your very welcome
Thank you so much! This is the only way I can get back on my board. I still need a bit of practice, so I don”t tip the board, but I CAN get back up! I tried your way for the first time today, and after 2 or 3 tries, I made it.
I do strap the paddle to the board, to make sure it doesn’t float away while I get back up. I’m female, fat (and full breasted) and almost 50, and I wear a pfd, so there is NO WAY I can pull myself on the board from the side.
I do have a question though.. can you not use the same stirrup for right and left foot?
Thank you! Same problem here: you have become a hero!
Thanks for the inspiration! Keep enjoying life!
THX Bro for the vid. Have the same problem with my figure and the paddle Board. Abo done! Greetings from Germany and keep it up!
my man saves the day!
Thank you for this information . I want to get a paddle board but also want to be safe . This looks like it will be a lot of help .
Thank you for doing this video. Appreciate it
Thank you! After falling off today and struggling to get back on I’m getting myself some rope and doing this!
Very informative. I'll try it with my kayak.
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial, I’m moving to Hawaii and want to try paddle boarding
Oh man that’s awesome. I’m gonna try that strip trip with my wife today. I like how you come in from the back instead of the side because the side it seem like it would tip over.
Thanks for this. I usually just sit on my paddleboard and I fell off for the first time today and had a panic because I couldn't get back on! I broke and dislocated my ankle last year so I don't have a lot of kicking power. I will definitely rig something up to see if it'll work for me.
Great video. Very inspiring for all of us with a few more pounds who want to start sup. Keep it up :)
DUDE!! THIS WAS SO HELPFUL!! THANK YOU!
No problem guy! I still can't believe how many people I helped with this video. I still got my board and I've been out a bunch already this year.
@@Malledeus86 that is so cool!
Thanks so much, I will do it on my next visit to the beach, I always want to go further but swimming back to the shore for a heavy guy like me, it’s not easy
Ha Ha! The same thing happen to me yesterday, and i'm about 40 lb lighter then you. Great video, and i'm going to get some rope for my Tower Xplorer iSup
Been lookin for this idea and found yours and another only a couple of years old and thought you may have been the first as the other guy didnt look like he needed to use a rope or stirrup . I am an old fat guy and getting on a SUP is dng difficult so thanks this may save my new found fun. Also dm you can stand up faster than I can draw breath
Thanks for this. Found Kayak Shak after speaking with you yesterday. Thank you for all your help. Going kayaking today.... Wish us luck!! Lol
Very nice! Glad i could help out. I'm off on a canoe trip tomorrow for the weekend.
Hanger 18 We loved it!! Need to find more to do... suggestions would be appreciated. Fb-Athena Perez Ig- 14m3first. Email athenaeperez@yahoo.com
Yesterday I had to swim to the shore just to climb back, and even there was not easy because of the deep mud. Luckily there was an old fallen tree there. The thick swimming vest - beside my overweight - was one of the problem for me, but I defenitely prepare something like this rope for the next time.
Very cool! Great job.
I had trouble getting on my inflatable with my pfd on then I took my sup in my community pool to practice w/o pfd on & much much easier to get on )
I also suffer from donelap disease ;) but your video was very helpful might try it . I heard it’s easier to get onto a hard board but have yet to try it .
Let us know how it works out.
Yo what kind of paddle board is that? I'm girthy too... I bought a kayak last summer... but, not so great. Cheers man . Peace. From brian.
Not all heroes wear capes! I'm going to have to try this. I tried for hours trying to get back on my damn board.
Thank you I am a fat person and I’d like to try this so I specifically came out here looking for a video like that so I appreciate it. Now I know there’s no way in hell I’d be able to do it beCause I have no upper body strength
Thank you for posting!
Might be dum. Can you do a video on how to make the rope exact as yours. Don’t know much about knots and tying things properly. I’m not sure if that makes sense.
As a chunky munkey, I love this tip. A couple of tips for the dude in this video, turn your paddle around as you are using it backwards and move your feet to either side of the handle for better balance.
The paddle is not backwards, it’s designed to have the rounded area facing the back. Many people don’t know this lol.
well done :) great idea!
Thank you!
Awesome! Going to try it!
Much like the walrus, he worms his way up like a caterpillar
Please tell me you said this in an English accent like National Geographic 😅
