I just spent over an hour trying to get one of these terminal clamps off of my battery and still can't get it off. I wonder how many people have been killed getting hit by cars and other accidents while trying to remove these idiotic and completely unnecessary clamps. Lives have probably been lost by not using a perfectly good clamp design that has worked for over a century. I've seen some stupid automotive shit in my day but this takes the cake. This is beyond stupid. It's stupid multiplied to infinity and beyond. Back to work!
You described in your opening comments the exact sequence I just went thru to find out how to get these clamps off!! And here you are! Thanks for not just thinking " aw thats now my gig" and passing this info along!!!
I would have never figured that out myself. After taking off the screws thinking I could get it off. I put them back on and came in the house and found the answer. THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you so much for this. I thought I was simply going to disconnect my battery until I opened the hood and saw this horrible sight 😂
Came to youtube to find a solution to a vehicle issue, found a cool arcade channel as a bonus
Thank you!! 2017 GMC Terrain has that type of connector. Your video helped me get it unstuck! What a pain!!! 😅
Doen't solve my problem. How to swap these connectors?
I took mine off and chucked it...got a new one at NAPA that didn't have the "brick' system...$20 well spent
Thank you for posting. Had the positive side crumble of my 2012 Lincoln MKX as I was taking it off. What a screwy design. I'm going to try to replace mine with a traditional cable and fitting.
Those brick things are called terminal wedges, and they are the dumbest thing to come out of the entire industrialization era in all of it’s years since the Old West! Those on this video held together just because of the corrosion. I just had to change my battery for the first time ever in my 4 year old truck so there was no corrosion and those slid off when you disconnected, then were almost impossible to hold together while you restart the nut. I only got 1 back on. Dropped the other 1 and couldn’t find it. Truck still starts lol but what a joke...somebody decided that’s what we need instead of a bolt and a nut to just tighten a clamp on a terminal.
I just change my battery and those little brick are the worst idea… I lost one and it was a pain
I agree. This may be the dumbest design in automotive history. I noticed that these clamps have a patent number so I suspect that somebody, somewhere made a boat load of money by having Ford use these idiotic clamps. Another example of Detroit fixing something that isn't broken and F*CKing it up.
Whoever designed these things need 5 minutes behind the barn. What a dumb design.
So glad you posted this video. You relieved me of a lot of anxiety. Thanks much.
Mines stuck as a mo fo, thanks for the help. New subscriber.
Thank you so much for this! I’m so glad you made this it helped us with a problem today!
Thanks. Mine fell apart and I had no idea how it went back together. This video saved me.
Thanks for the insight on the terminal connector! I would have been under the hood all day if it wasn't for this video!
These automotive engineers?? Surprised we didn't have to take out the back seat just to get to the battery!! 😆 Thank-you for the video.
No, that would be the Dodge battery systems where the battery is either in the trunk or under the passenger side fender and behind the tire where you can only access it by raising the car on a lift. I hear that their engineers graduated from the Forrest Gump school of engineering.
Thank you for solving this mystery. I was completely baffled.
Perfect! I'm glad you got right to the point and explained in a few minutes what some jackass wants to spend 10-30 minutes on.
Thanks a lot, I couldn’t put it back together but, thanks to your videos I put it back.
Im still stuck. Help!
Perfect video, I just have a quick question... how do I tighten it? Cause it just keeps spinning and idk how to get it tight?
Notice the bottom piece spinning at 1:43. Immobilize that spinning square piece by pushing it up into the hollow of the lower brick. Then screw top nut to tighten.
Yeah so I got a 2016 explorer with this. I wasted no time to hit UA-cam. Thank you for your video and effort. 🙏🏻
i had a hell of a time trying to figure it out so went to youtube seen your video and bang got it thank you
Thanks man, mine wouldn’t tighten for whatever reason you fixed my problem with the screw driver tip 👍
That was my reaction when i looked at the terminal connector! Thanks for helping crack the code.
I just want you know how to attach jumper cables to the stupid things!
Is there any videos installing those black block cuz I’m having trouble getting the bolt to tighten. The bottom block just slides right off
what if they wont seperate?
They are both terminals.
Terminal Of, at, relating to, or forming a limit, boundary, extremity, or end.
The end of the battery is a post.
The end of the cable is a clamp.
If you go to the auto parts store they will not sell you a battery post if you ask for a battery terminal but they will sell you the terminal that goes on your cable.
Amazing video...thank you!
Think you just saved me a lot of grief…..thanks
Thanks for this!
Nice video brother. God bless.
You're a GOD!!!
Thanks! and sure is a goofy design... had me stumped!
I got a 2011 mustang idk how tf to get that little square shit tightened on one of my sides it’s driving me nuts
Thank you for sharing
battery posts, terminal clamps and tapered wedges are technical terms
Just change my Ford battery two days ago and could have used this. Dont unscrew it all the way like I did and lose the bolt. Then you have to get clever on how you tighten it.
Thank you. Life saver
Exactly what I needed
This was so helpful thank you sir
Very helpful!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!. We just got this car and it was missing those wedge blocks.
@@jonasavila9932 I ended up just clamping with pliers then forcing the clamp in place. It’s been like that for a year. Eventually I’ll replace it.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
I am in agreement with most of these people, and help me solve my problem Day thank you
Just what I needed, thanks.
Mines littlerly two wires ran together welded onto the terminal.. gonna be a fun day replacing it
Perfect And Thank You!!!! 10-8-20
Super helpfull. Thank you so much.
Jami from Guam
Just did this the other day. What a giant pain in the assssss
Thanks
Excellent.
Yup i dropped one of those diagonal inthere somewhere.... Damn nightmare I'll tell you what...
Awesome !!!
Thank u!
Ty
Life saver except I took the nut all the way off the rectangle and dropped my bolt in a void under my hood.
The “terminal” in your definition, is ACTUALLY called a post (top “POST”, side “POST”.)
The “terminal connectors” in your definition is called.. a terminal (or terminal connector)
As a retail automotive person, if you walk in here a say I have a side terminal battery and I need a terminal connector for my side terminal battery. We’re all gonna look at you funny.
If you come in and say I have a side POST battery and need a side post terminal/connector, we’ll know what you mean.
Maybe your definition is more old school? Similar to today, “AF sensor” most people don’t know what that is maybe except some older mechanics but for the young people it’s called an O2 sensor or an Oxygen sensor
NOT, one of Ford's "better ideas"!
You didnt actually show yourself doing it therefore it never happened.
Useless engineering from a mind that mom and dad spent thousands on apparatus clamp is what that annoying thing is called….
Cost me two beers to get that dam thing off
Oy vey
yeah! Junk!!!
Thanks for the help. What a useless, needlessly complicated way to connect terminals, when they already had that perfect back in 1972!
