Fantastic project, just starting my own version. Thanks so much for sharing this! My suggestion for the reflective glass is a rigid phone screen protector. They are really thin, you just need to make sure the camera hole isn't visible!
BRILLIANT! That is a spectacular tip! Also, also it's always important to think about how common things and be used in uncommon ways to solve for these design challenges. Thanks for sharing!
OK I'm going for it. Alice Cheshire Cat in tree illusion. No MP3, Cat on transparency with flickering LED on LHS. Photoshopped tree without cat on first 'wall'. Not thought out what to put behind the acetate, but obviously forest/wood - the back mirror should make this infinate. Perhaps one Tweedle Dee or Dum? How's that for a 74 and a half year old? It might take me some time . . . . .
Nice! I think the Cheshire Cat is a perfect use-case for a little Pepper's Ghost. If you find yourself on the Pinocchio ride at Disneyland, the Blue Fairy at the end is also a Pepper's Ghost illusion. All the best with your project! Cheers!
You bet! Thanks for the comment. Planning is such a big part of working in such a confined space and I’m really bad at it. I usually just wing it the whole way and end up redoing a lot of things. I think I may project a more organized approach but I’m a real kludger at heart. The Peppers Ghost effect is pretty clever and has a lot of potential so it’s a good trick to have in your repertoire. All the best!
That was incredibly helpful. I was hoping you would show what you did in the back. Why do you need the back short wall that you represented with a stick?
Great question. There is a door on the right wall in the back. Behind the short wall, there is an angled mirror that reflects that door and gives the illusion that the hallway continues to wrap around through the doorway. The wall enhances that illusion and hides some reflections that would give it away. I think there is a "using mirrors" video in there somewhere.
Thanks! One thing I didn't touch on too much but think would be interesting is it doesn't need to be video! You could have a static sculpture of a creature that is highly reflective and strongly lit and eliminate the whole "electronics" hassle. OK... now I wanna build that :)!
Just subbed to you channel and I'm enjoying all the posts you've put up for our learning and entertainment. I've been considering doing a book nook focused on either Star Wars Galaxy's Edge or Pirates of the Caribbean. Have you considered a YT video on the creation process from idea to insertion of elements inside the space of a standard book nook? Thanks for the work on all the videos.
I've been thinking about a Pirates nook! Sadly, I've yet to see Galaxy's Edge. Our last trip was right before it opened and then... well... ya know. Thanks for the suggestion on getting a little more into the planning process. Honestly... so much time goes into figuring out how to cram it all in and obscure the fact that it's a bunch of stuff in a little box. I'll see what I can work into the next video! Thanks again.
@@RandomMakingEncounters Thanks for the reply. Just received your pre fab nook via Etsy and while I've started my "Pirate Cove" on another book nook kit I'll be using yours for the Galaxy's Edge idea.
Sorry for a lag in the reply. I think you are really on to something. I think a little warp would be fine on something like ghosts and it may be better to have a tiny bit of warp with better sharpness over flat but double vision. A little more thought would need to go into hiding the frame within the interior as well. Transparency sheets seem like just about the right thickness. Worth some experimentation for sure. Thanks for sharing! All the best!
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. It's sometimes hard to balance the how to videos with the more eye candy ones. I want to be able to get a bit of both out there. Too many ideas... too little time :)!

Very interesting. Thank you.
You bet! This was a bit of a random video but it helps explain the whole illusion. It really is all about the angles. All the best!

Just found your channel ( new sub here) I loved your detailed video I feel inspired! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Honestly, that's the most I could ever hope for. Thank you for the comment and I hope your inspirations lead to fun adventures! All the best!

What about using transparency sheets? You could build a frame and glue it to that. Or do you think it would warp too much over time?

Great video 👍
Thanks! I have a few more in the works!

Love these vids. Just wish you’d chill on the hands. Very distracting.
Thanks for the input. I'll give it a watch to see how much I'm waving those paws around.
