My parents and I attended a West Virginia Public Television function in Charleston, WV that featured John Inman as guest speaker. He was very nice to all who attended and let everyone ask questions while at the podium. When his talk was over he actually stayed in the room and talked to anyone that wanted to speak with him. This is something that I will always remember. Such a totally nice person that was comfortable among just us regular folks.
OMG!!!! He STILL cracks me up. "Mr. Humphries, are you free?" John, it's like you're still here with us. The entire AYBS cast was simply amazing. Hey, where's Mr. Humphries Paddington bear? LOL. Love to you all.
ya know, this is so...haunting is a strange way. its a shame comedy never managed to do anything like this again. such a talented guy he never got away from the "im free" character - but as far as i know - he was quite happy to play the part forever!
I wonder where his niecce is Deborah Inman. Wouldn't you think she'd want to be active to keep her wonderful Uncle Frederick John Inman alive. I immagine all the people who had and have fallen in love with Mr. Humphries that really never got to meet him personally would like to know more about him. Like did he like cats and dogs his favorite color where can you buy tee shirts with John on them? I wish his niece could tell us something.
Actually, I just read that he recorded this song as early as 1975, and it was so popular that it served as the theme song for the Australian version of Are You Being Served?
Mr. Humphries will live on forever.

WELL DONE!
This news devastated me.
"I'm free!"
Stuff like this makes me not want to like the old comedies because they are all dying and its sad
They don't make Brit coms like they used too. It's all crap now!
When did he do this recording?
:-)
