Ontario Canada; coffee in a mug. You are too funny Cathy. Enjoy your videos so much.
Thank you, Cathy, for taking time again to teach us something useful!
Glad it was helpful!
You're a wealth of information, Cathy! Love you!
You're the best!
Im 120 miles southwest of San Antonio Texas on our family ranch. I'm a 71 yr old grandma who started making cards in November. Ive done all kinds of crafts in my lifetime but am loving making cards. I made 500 cards over the last 3 months for hospital workers in SA. Today i am finishing the last 50 cards of 1000 for SA food bank. I'm a retired ultrasound tech but am high risk and cant go back to essential work.
Im learning a lot from you and Jennifer and anxious to try new ideas. 😍👍
How wonderful that you are doing that! I love your heart. Keep it up!
Vicki Montemayor Well done. Loved San Antonio - I came in 193 as part of a joint health studies programme with the University if Texas the University of East London (UK) and a weekend in SA was classed as our social studies. Loved the river walk etc. Keep well
Will you be my grandma? Mwaaah you sweetheart ❤️
I like big margins and I cannot lie. Meaning margins wider than a sliver. Meaning meaningful margins. Okay, big margins. Also love "negative space," because it is so not that. Born in St. Paul, now on the Western Slope in Colorado. Former journalist. Red wine in my glass, because it's 5 o'clock somewhere in ReplayLand! Thanks for these chats.
I ♥ this series - what you say & teach in your 10 (+) minute chat videos is quality time WELL spent - it's educational, it's FUN, it's inspiring and did I say it's FUN !!! Your personality was meant to be shared (translation, you ROCK) - Thank You for linking all of the videos to the cards you showed in this video (guess what I'll be doing this tonight) THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for sharing your creativity, your wit & your skills. I for one can't seem to get enough of your videos, so PLEASE keep them coming.
Thank you Ginger!
I love, love my quiet time.
I'm watching the replay and I will say, you are an absolute delight to watch ! I need some one like you, to just make me smile.
Thanks so much 😊

Glad you like them!
Cathy, you are one of my most favourite people to watch. Love your personality and you educate me about the what and how (and why) of card making so I can make them really pop. You're awesome.
Why thank you!
Love these design chats. I've been cardmaking for about 25 years now but learn something new each time I watch these, so thank you. Watching on replay with a Ginger Beer from Cannon Falls MN.
Hello in Cannon Falls! Stay cool today!

Wow - I use your scrapbook publications all the time - just found this UA-cam Channel. Planning to binge watch your channel today while I sign handmade cards for lockdown nursing home residents. Thanks for the content!
Welcome aboard!
Thank you for sharing your design tips with us. I love to learn why things work and how to create better looks. I've been crafting for 22 years and still learn a lot from the videos..
I'm so glad!
Watching from the Central Okanagan in Canada's western most province....beautiful British Columbia! It's currently 3:20am, I just filled the wood stove and am now enjoying milk and cookies.
Beautiful BC indeed! My family is from there! My folks were born there and grew up in BC. I, however, am not Canadian as I was adopted in the states. But all my relatives are in BC!
I just subscribed to your channel last week, and am enjoying these “older” videos, too. I have been making cards for 20 years so am not learning anything new from you but am enjoying your “company” and seeing your creations. I think your MN personality feels comfortable to me, as many of my closest friends are from there. Midwest women and their black coffee! I am from New England but have lived in VA and now FL. Someday I may even scrapbook, and those layouts in this video were the best I have seen for inspiration.
Wow, welcome Betty!
Watching from North Carolina, drinking cranberry citrus sparkling water. I just found your videos tonight and have already watched a few of your newest ones. You are awesome! Thank you for all the information and entertainment!
Welcome aboard!
Watching from Racine, WI while drinking a latte in my U of MN mug from my daughter. I learn something from every one of your design chats. I started doing common margins shortly after putting my first few cards together that uses alcohol ink paintings. I didn’t know the theory, but it made a tremendous difference. Thank you for you simple, clear explanations for some of what is slightly intuitive.
I’m watching you from Newport News, Va. I have just recently discovered your channel, now I watch you every night while my husband is watching FoxNews!
FUN!
Hi Cathy, I am watching from Spain enjoying a cup of English tea and enjoying all your tips, thanks for sharing 😘
Thanks for watching!
Watched the replay from Sioux City, IA..... Cathy, I just love watching your videos! You are so hilarious..... I love it! It makes learning from you something to look forward to!
Thanks for watching! I do appreciate it!
Love this series. I’m in Ottawa Canada. I agree that size does not matter wrt design principles. In certain cases, it transcends disciplines. The rule of thirds applies to photography as well, odd numbers being visually pleasing with plants as well. We had a large exterior renovation done a few years ago & I was discussing the colour order of various exterior elements & I asked him that I thought X. And he said no, because the eye would be bouncing all over & it would not be restful. I responded, "doh", it’s the same in card making. His response was it’s so nice to work with a client that gets it. Card making, scrapbooking, landscaping, home design, ....
It totally transcends size!
Watched your replay from St. Louis, MO. Can't wait for your video on multiple uses for a stamp set. Enjoy your sense of humor and yes you are my people 😉. Appreciate you sharing your skills.
Thanks so much!
You are a hoot!!! Thanks for being real and instructional!

Awesome! Thank you!
Perry, Florida here. Thank you for your uplifting videos.
Glad you like them!
I loved this video. One thing for visual learners, it would be nice to see two of the same card for instance, but one without the common margins. That way you can see what a difference it makes. I love how you are so relatable. Thanks for sharing.
Good point! I will keep that in mind for future installments. I'm working to plan the next one on contrast in design.
Hello Cathy. I'm watching on replay and from Estonia :) our neighbouring countries are Finland and Russia. You are so fabulous- thank you. Evelin
Wonderful! So cool to have viewers from all over the world.

Gin and tonic sounds good to me!

Thanks for watching!
Your chats are just wonderful. I’ve got a tea & lemonade mix in my drinking vessel here in Maine. I’m off now to Instagram to see what people are making with your design tips! Hope your day is great!
Thanks! Hope yours is too!
As always, very informative! I spent a lot of time at our local framing company, they had DIY framing for years, now they do all the work for customers. So framing is second nature to me. Years back I was framing art and needlework pieces, now framing cards is my thing. TFSharing....I watch from Lancaster, PA, Cathy. 🖼 💌
Oh I would imagine! Yes! Framers know the value of the margin!
Woo looking forward to those videos of what to do with stamp sets!
Coming soon!
Watching from Spain with a cold beer! Love these videos
Awesome! Thank you!
Central Florida - big glass of ice water!
Watching on replay from Montréal. Drinking a nice mug of cold water because it’s 92F here right now, and feels like 106 with the humidity factored in. All this and it isn’t even noon yet.
You have the same thick weather we do!
Hi Cathy, I have been catching up on a few of your videos and I am loving them. I make cards for pleasure for friends and family. It is 22.25 here in England, UK and I am drinking a snowball in a tall glass yummy. Thank you again for your great tutorials. I am now going to search for more of your inspiration, stay safe x
Thank you so much!
Gorinchem, the Netherlands. A bottle of water and a coffee. Like your video’s! learned a lot, thanks 😘
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for your help! I made a little a2 card the other day. It was cute-but just sort of "ok" -not really special. It bugged me that something was missing. So, when I was taking my afternoon nap (yes, I am lucky to be able to do that almost every day-power charging, ya know!) My mind wanders to my card making when I am "resting" and I remembered that "Cathy says" how important white space and common margins are. And that it makes the focal point more interesting. SO-I cut that a2 card apart, matted the whole focal piece with a tiny black frame and stuck it onto a 5x7 card. COOL! Now I actually had a DESIGN and I am so much happier with it. I love that I can still learn something new and I appreciate your videos so much!
That's so great!!!
I had no idea you were living in Minnesota. I'm in Minnesota too! You will probably never see this because I just came up on this video this morning and it is seven months after it was posted. Baby, it's not 8000 degrees today! In fact we finally got above 0 after Umpteen days of below zero weather! WooHoo! I love your videos. It's almost like having a visit with you. Plus I'm learning things, yay for me :-). I'm drinking just plain old water. I think I might step it up and have a cup of mint tea or hot cocoa later. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for what you do, I appreciate you
Oh, I see ALL the comments in the back end, which is nice, even on older videos! And yeah, I'm up in Nisswa right now, and finally it was warm enough to walk outside without freezing! (I live in St. Paul, but our family has a cabin up here.)
@@czdesignI'm pleasantly surprised. Nisswa is a nice little place. I'm in Grand Rapids.
Hi Cathy I watch all your videos. Love them!! I’m watching from Australia.
Awesome! Thank you!
Cathy, thanks for all the inspiration through the years. I've been scrapbooking about as long as you (I started in 2002; hard to believe I've been doing this for 18 years!), and I've been following your pages in magazines, books, and on the web from time to time. Now that I have a little more time, (silver lining to COVID?) I'm getting back to scrapping. Although I like the look of the fancy, messy, shabby chic, embellishment-ridden pages and cards that I see everywhere, when it comes down to making something, I always stick to a clean and simple design. At first I thought this was a failing of imagination, but the more I do it, I realize it's just my style. I'm so glad to have your simple style as a comforting, guiding hand to come back to time and again. I love all the new videos and the digital store. Keep it coming.
Hey Heather! I, too, love the more layered, messy look of crafty things… I just can't do it to save my life! We always have to stick with what makes us happy, right?
Watching replay from Glendale AZ.
I watched the replay. I really enjoyed your scrapbook pages. I also scrapbook. Your video was very informative.
Thank you so much!
I am so glad you are going to do the "what do I do with this stamp set"? I actually usually feel compelled to buy a stamp set when I see what the designers are doing with it during a new release blog hop! Then I get it and I'm like...really? why did I buy this? I've actually been a little more proactive when I buy it...I save all the examples I saw/liked during the blog hop from pinterest, etc.
That's a great idea! And yes, I need to pick a set I haven't used to make it a realistic video! lol. Going to pick one out soon!
The same thing happens to me a lot.
I totally do the same thing! Watch a video, love what they do then go buy the stamp. By the time I get my order (I live in Canada so they usually take longer!) I can’t remember why I needed it so badly 😂
Hey Patty, I'm doing that video this weekend! It will premiere at 3 p.m. CDT on July 18! See you there?
@@czdesign definitely!
Great conversation and instruction on common margins. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Cathy...love this topic! I am definitely a lover of common margins. I’ve been doing this all along in my card making and scrapbooking and didn’t even realize it was a “thing.” I did it because it “felt” right! Thanks for the interesting chat! :)
Wonderful!
Thank you so much for this video. What a coincidence, I had a chat with a friend yesterday about how I like to have a "frame" around my card when putting it on a cardbase. But I couldn't explain to her, what and why exactly I meant by that. Today I sent her your video and now she understands where I was going 😁 Thank you 😘
I love when people are already DOING it, and just realize, "Hey, that's graphic design in action" Go you!
I have my red solo cup of........ ice water 😂🤣😂 I know livin large and in charge in northern California! 😁 loving your videos!!!
I am so glad I found you. You crack me up!
Welcome!!
Watching from Greenville, SC. I am drinking a Pink Grapefruit Perrier. Thanks for these chats and everything else you do!
Enjoy!
I had 3 roommates in college who were artists. Two of them are graphic designers and one teaches art in school. You are on the same level that of talent that they are. Love your video s because you explain everything well.
That is awesome!
Just watched replay from Hillside, IL. Another very informative video, thank you !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
These chats are the best! I find I view my card making through the lens of the information I learn in these chats. Please continue!
More to come!

Howdy from Hockley, Texas. Enjoying my Arnold Palmer in my Stainless steel mug. Learning so much from you. Thanks

Hello from Australia
I love your chats. You're answering questions I didn't even know I had... basically explaining the "why", of why does this appeal to me. And I just think you're delightful! 💜
I'm so glad!
Watching from Kirkland, WA - love common margins! Thanks for explaining
Hello in Kirkland, from a born-and-raised-in-Everett girl!
@@czdesign gotta love what a small world this is! Really enjoy your videos- thanks for the encouragement to create- it really is good for the soul
I truly enjoy your videos they are so helpful. Your personality is fantastic! I’m watching from Maryland... keep them videos coming you do a great job!!!
Thank you so much!!
This is truely amazing!! Thanks for some refreshing and new tips on design. Love your designs! Great advise!
You are so welcome!
First off, I love your personality and sense of humor. Secondly, I love these chats. I graduated from an art school when yes design was part of the curriculum but before computers and was focused more on drawing/painting/sculpture/photography. I follow these concepts with clean design as well into crafting but its refreshing to recall or be reminded of the terminology. It will probably help me start initially and logically think more about design before I start my next project. I really need to start sketing them out to save time in making decisions. Lol. :-)
I love that so many folks who have watched did do art training in college!
#replay I had no idea there was a reason or a why in the reason you always put a margin on a card! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this video and your knowledge!! Much Appreciation & Love from Berkeley Springs, WV
You are so welcome!
Great video, as always. I learn and laugh a lot with you!
Awesome, thank you!
love these design chats. I did a design principles short course years ago. So good to see how to apply (some forgotten aspects) in the crafty world. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I am watching from Mill Creek, Washington. I watch in the evening because I am a Corporate Commercial Credit Manager by trade (say that fast 3 times) but I am a Crafter by choice. Sorry I couldn’t help it. I love what you said. That will be my new title, my boss will love it. I love all your tips that you give. Thank you!! PS Little Falls Sr High, Little Falls, MN
Oh my… I had some fun times in Mill Creek growing up! (I am from Everett, and graduated from Cascade High School!) So we have some cross over!
