Bradley Anderson Yes, he had to adapt to speedy arm punches. They’re not power shots, but he could land 5 to an opponents face while they’re trying to wind up a power shot. Anybody that says Hopkins was finished at this point of his career doesn’t know what they are talking about . He ended up winning 3 more world titles after this loss , so calzaghe beat a great version of Hopkins . He did beat up a old Roy Jones though .
People can say what they want, however, Hopkins lost the fight. He just came to spoil and hold. Calzaghe as usual adjusted and won the fight. Welsh Legend
Joe Calzaghe in my opinion one of the Best of all times and undefeated. Not like the so called boxers of nowadays, which are depending on special clauses on weight arrangements and steroids. He gave a very hard time to Hopkins and R. Jones. Great team Sir Enzo and Joe Calzaghe!!
No just no to be considered amongst the greatest of all time you have to face a large number of other legendary fighters like Ali, Robinson, Leonard, Mayweather etc did.
Как вы можете его назвать одним из лучших всех времён. Лучшие боксёры всех времён и народов это единственно боксёр в мире в истории мирового бокса это Мухаммед Али и всё
people say Joe fought Hopkins and jones past there prime, and it's true but he was past his prime as well.. He did fight two undefeated fighters both of which many thought he would lose, and dominated both of them. Hopkins had a huge weight advantage and held the entire fight, not to mention the time off he took..
Calzaghe was 36 here. He too was past his best. And this was his first fight in the LHW division. BHOP made it the poor fight it was, but Calzaghe deffo won.
jonno tuckster Hopkins just had a hit a hold spoiler’s mentality, which was a shame. At least Roy Jones stood in front of Calzaghe and actually boxed. Well, at least he kept to Freddie Roach’s game plan though, eh.
Quillan Jacobson yup. Around the same time Mayweather was on Dancing With the Stars. I reckon B-Hop was jealous and was grabbing Joe coz he wanted to do a waltz with him.
Joe was great. Took a Knockdown from RJJ and B Hop in 1st rounds. They were much older but he still beat them. However if he fought as long as B Hop, Roy Jones or even Duran he would've taken sum Ls, possibly knockouts cause he got dropped in first rounds!! HOF and all time Great
Hopkins was never hurt , Calzhage put down in round 1 with a straight right , which Hopkins would score at will throughout the fight because Calzhage came in many times with his head down . That's why Hopkins would go to the ropes. Also Hopkins was 43 and Calzhage could not take him out . Ultimately Calzhage won but Hopkins gave him all he could handle .
Many people talk about how old Hopkins was in this fight. Granted, Calzaghe was 7 years younger; but Calzaghe was certainly more past his prime than Hopkins. Bernard was 43, but Joe was 36. Bernard fought for years at the highest level of the sport after this fight (mostly due to his excellent defensive skills) but by the time this fight happened Calzaghe's hands were shot, he was clearly past his best, this was his first fight at light-heavyweight and in America, and yet he still beat Bernard. If they fought in 2002 like they were supposed to I think this fight would have looked almost exactly the same.
Calzaghes hand issues unfortunately were horrendous when he turned 30. By the time the lacy fight came around it is well documented that he was going to pull out again with hand issues but his dad made him take the fight. Joe did zero sparring for lacy and very little for the rest of his career. Concentrated on fitness and speed running up and down the Welsh valleys.
@Kyle Jones man shut.the hell up lmao, he never ducked anyone? His resume is full with a bunch of guys who are well passed their primes, Joe wouldn't had beaten any of those guys in their primes
One thing for certain in the ring... Its hard to defend against constant flurries in your face. Its NOT nessessary to power every Punch... just having them flying at you constantly makes it hard to launch offence cuz your allways in D mode is what Joe did and it worked for him. Ali- Cat and Mouse Sugar Ray Stick/Move Tyson- work from Inside Hook Liver/Upper cut/chin Joe C- Relentless forward constant in your face Attach mode!
Thematrix Grower Jones would not Hopkins, believe that! Bhop is good but overrated he fought calzaghe exactly the same way he fought tarver but tarver didn’t know how to deal with himBhops awkward style and when what to do in a clinch
Highlights carefully selected to favour Hopkins. Funny how the faked low blows wasn't on this ... Hopkins would have got tko'd without that 5min rest. You have to respect Bernard's better performances but his behaviour when he was struggling against the best in the division was absolutely horrible.
I would have hated to be a judge on this one. Do you really want to give Calzaghe 10-9 scores on at least 4 of those rounds where he is simply landing butterfly touches. No way. This is professional fighting and it should matter greatly how much power is behind a punch... This is a draw.
Not every fighter throws power punches. Calzaghe landed more, worked harder, came forward. Hopkins kept holding to smother his work. Should have been deducted points.
And when you also have a good chin, your opponent can’t get you out of there. Calzaghe can’t be stopped, you can’t stop getting punched by him, and he won’t stop punching. So you will always lose.
@Shaz Calzaghe beat Peter Manfredo for example by TKO, Manfredo was not seemingly hurt by any of Calzaghe's barrage of punches. Calzaghe threw a high volume of punches, when the opponent covered up and did not throw back the referee would frequently step in to stop the fight. If you want to see a true knock out artist, Julian Jackson would be a good place to start.
Hopkins was wasted totally destroyed there by the GOAT, and he was in the top 5 of all time, Calzaghe was unbeatable , the greatest boxer ever walked the planet
Great call this by Hopkins. He chickened out of a fight with Calzaghe at SM in 2002, after agreeing the purse AND an American venue.... So Getting JC in the ring for his first fight at Light heavy and bullying him was always the way forward. Except After 5 rounds Hopkins knew Calzaghe was getting stronger and stronger, and resorted to every trick in the book to make it a non-fight. It was awful. But the racist DID lose

NAAH, I wants £4m, and an American venue Frank Warren said "yep, ok, £4m... We will come to America" Next day again... Hopkins just said NO. Never gave a reason, never fought at SuperMiddleweight Thats ducking son
I agreed with Harold Lederman. Hopkins had a great start but after the first 2 rounds he went into his shell and gave away most of the rest of the rounds through inactivity.
Neither were in their prime. Hopkins may have been older but he was probably closer too his prime than Calzaghe. He won three world titles after calzaghe retired and was still a unified champ 6 years after this fight.

If I was going into battle I'd rather have Froch riding next to me than that smug twat - he got an absolute scandal of a decision against Kovalev and does not have the good grace to say anything. Can't stand that guy, him and Hoppy are bad apples.
John CGW shut up bitch and quit crying 😂😂😂
Kim Chi how do you fight? they would both whoop your ass lol
Hopkins landed some nice short counters inside that may not have scored but basically he was being drowned by the engine of Calzaghe
Joe is the pride of wales...makes me proud to be welsh
Hopkins was 43 here. These guy was blessed to be still competing at the top
You got to luv the American commentary. Ponses
hopkins the best "butter" in the world.
THE MOST HOPKINS BIAS CUT OF THE FIGHT IT EVER SEEN SHAME ON YOU
Calzaghe had what the vast majority of British boxers did not have. The ability to adapt and adjust in the middle of a fight.
Regardless of where there from most fighters don’t have that ability.
Calzghe was Italian
@@schumi9xwdc Italian on his father’s side, Welsh on his mother’s.
Calzague was too good for hopkins
people say Joe fought Hopkins and jones past there prime, and it's true but he was past his prime as well..
He did fight two undefeated fighters both of which many thought he would lose, and dominated both of them.
Hopkins had a huge weight advantage and held the entire fight, not to mention the time off he took..
If CalZaghe was American . He would have been ranked one of the best of all times ...
12:34 - The greatest glasses flip of all time. Amazing.
Lol
Calzaghe won this fight. I thought initially that Bhop won, but Calzaghe was just the busier fighter.
I like calzaghe he was entreating to watch.
Speed is power. It comes naturally
Calzaghe was 36 here. He too was past his best. And this was his first fight in the LHW division. BHOP made it the poor fight it was, but Calzaghe deffo won.
Lol when you edit a video to make Hopkins look like he should have won but he still looked average against joe
Hardly the best performance by either fighter really. Both went on from this to give a performance of a lifetime.
Agree bud just made me laugh how some people try to make it look like it should have been a different result lol 😂
jonno tuckster Hopkins just had a hit a hold spoiler’s mentality, which was a shame. At least Roy Jones stood in front of Calzaghe and actually boxed. Well, at least he kept to Freddie Roach’s game plan though, eh.
@@TreforTreforgan Hopkins shoulda changed his name to Huggins after this disgraceful display
HOF and all time Great
Joe is such an unknown fighter who should be and would hold his own in any era.
He was a coward and a dodge artist. He would have been destroyed in his OWNera has he fought young prime fighters.
The only person who believed that Hopkins won was Stevie Wonder.
Yeah right you watching a different fight ?
Hopkins dirty tactics all of his fights
1 hit then hug for 12rounds 1 hit then hug
Rip enzo
People forgets Hopkins was 100 years old when he fought Joe
Thats funny because he regained the belts afterwards, becoming ring and lineal champion also. So he was 120 by then and still doing the business!
Great fight...Calzaghe one of the kind...😂
The disrespect to Calzaghe is ridiculous, he was a fantastic fighter who doesn't get the credit he deserves because he was ducked by the bigger names.
I agree I think roy would have been harder fight if it was 2002 cal to win still but only just
Calzaghe didn't "win". He landed a few more slaps than Hopkins. He is made to miss and Hopkins isn't throwing many punches
Best British fighter of all time
Lennox Lewis?
love the compilations of Hopkins getting battered from "white boys"
Mark Baker ahahahahah
He is racist piece of shit.
Karma caught him.
Knocked through the ropes by a white boy in his last fight.
Calzahge is a pussy, he never wanted to fight a prime Hopkin.
@Kyle Jones man shut.the hell up lmao, he never ducked anyone? His resume is full with a bunch of guys who are well passed their primes, Joe wouldn't had beaten any of those guys in their primes
Exactly
Watching this highlight makes me rethink Bhop won this figjt.
One thing for certain in the ring... Its hard to defend against constant flurries in your face. Its NOT nessessary to power every Punch... just having them flying at you constantly makes it hard to launch offence cuz your allways in D mode is what Joe did and it worked for him.
Ali- Cat and Mouse
Sugar Ray Stick/Move
Tyson- work from Inside Hook Liver/Upper cut/chin
Joe C- Relentless forward constant in your face Attach mode!
Loved seeing Bernard get his dirty fighting ass kicked here
best light heavy weight calzaghe
Lets be honest Calzaghe only had 2 fights at light heavyweight lol, thats coming from a big Calzaghe fan
Кальзаго просто Король Среди Чемпионов
I cant believe this guy can beat Hopkins and Roy Jones JR and Ive never heard of him until now!!
Navi Tatla they were both old in the primes they would of killed him in 3 to 5 rounds
Hopkins was 43 YRS old!
Soldier of most high army and world champ
Don’t worry mate He beat them when they past there best, he had no power.
Thematrix Grower Jones would not Hopkins, believe that! Bhop is good but overrated he fought calzaghe exactly the same way he fought tarver but tarver didn’t know how to deal with himBhops awkward style and when what to do in a clinch
They didn't want to tarnish Calzache"s record
Highlights carefully selected to favour Hopkins. Funny how the faked low blows wasn't on this ... Hopkins would have got tko'd without that 5min rest.
You have to respect Bernard's better performances but his behaviour when he was struggling against the best in the division was absolutely horrible.
I remember watching this fight when it aired live and thinking that Hopkins was robbed. Today, I think the decision went the way that it should have.
If the undefeated Calzaghe was American he would be considered one of the greatest of all time.
that's black entitlement...
Bit of a Hopkins biased highlights
First time calzaghe looked human
I would have hated to be a judge on this one. Do you really want to give Calzaghe 10-9 scores on at least 4 of those rounds where he is simply landing butterfly touches. No way. This is professional fighting and it should matter greatly how much power is behind a punch... This is a draw.
the figures speak for themselves - Hopkins was outworked but fair play, his dirty tricks made it close
Not every fighter throws power punches. Calzaghe landed more, worked harder, came forward. Hopkins kept holding to smother his work. Should have been deducted points.
You cut short whenever Emmanuel steward talked... come on man
Tommy ballhead cuz he’s an overrated trainer. Only claim to fame was Thomas Hearns. Every one else came to him after they were already established
If you have the stamina, and can let your hands go from beginning to end, it doesn't allow your opponent to take breathers.
And when you also have a good chin, your opponent can’t get you out of there. Calzaghe can’t be stopped, you can’t stop getting punched by him, and he won’t stop punching. So you will always lose.
That bum who was holding, fouling and all that dirty play deserved to lose. Threw about 5 punches a round
Shut up idiot he is a legend and he was 43 here
Yeah he was a dirty fighter
Split decision my hole, pretty dominant win
If Calzaghe never have injury in his left hand maybe the result will be different....
Joe slapping his way to another victory
Wouldn't say it to his face though😂😂😂
@Shaz stoppage wins aren't the same as knockouts.
Calzaghe won that fight without a shadow of doubt
Bernard did better than Roy but fact that Joe got them both says alot
If the undefeated Calzaghe was American he would be considered one of the greatest of all time.
Da man 43....Roy was 39.....in dey prime....dey would murder him!!!!🍻
@@DG-nu9dy joe was 36 and 37 when they fought. he wasn't in his prime u dumb shit
@@DG-nu9dy ... Joe was 36 dude.... and a NATURAL LIGHTHEAVY, not Middleweight... so there would be no "murder".. fool
@Kyle Jones prime excuses are epic!🥊
Hopkins was wasted totally destroyed there by the GOAT, and he was in the top 5 of all time, Calzaghe was unbeatable , the greatest boxer ever walked the planet
Great call this by Hopkins. He chickened out of a fight with Calzaghe at SM in 2002, after agreeing the purse AND an American
venue.... So Getting JC in the ring for his first fight at Light heavy and bullying him was always the way forward.
Except
After 5 rounds Hopkins knew Calzaghe was getting stronger and stronger, and resorted to every trick in the book to make it
a non-fight. It was awful. But the racist DID lose
Glad someone remembers that they ALL ducked Calzaghe , if they could ...but... wouldn't you ? lol... you cannot beat this man..
@Cortez Armstrong If you cant see how impossible it would be to beat Calzaghe you are not worth talking to , you obviously know NOTHING about the skill set of boxing , only people that have been in the ring know how great he was, or people with a brain and intuition ... GOAT
@Cortez Armstrong but he wasn't beat so what bums beat his ass
@Cortez Armstrong you need to stop smoking crack boy!! And learn to spell also,WTF are ducced and rocced? You uneducated moron, undefeated means just that,UNDEFEATED.no ass whooping on jc's record.🙋🙋🙋
@Cortez Armstrong Just seen this. FFS... Hopkins DUCKED him in 2002
He was the Middleweight Champion of the World. He Agreed to fight Calzaghe in Wales for £3m
Then the next day, he said.... NAAH, I wants £4m, and an American venue
Frank Warren said "yep, ok, £4m... We will come to America"
Next day again... Hopkins just said NO. Never gave a reason, never fought at SuperMiddleweight
Thats ducking son
Calzaghe is one tough white boy 🥊
"Holding-Hopkins" ....
I agreed with Harold Lederman. Hopkins had a great start but after the first 2 rounds he went into his shell and gave away most of the rest of the rounds through inactivity.
I am pretty sure thats Steven Seagal in the middle of the fourth row(main camera angle) lol
One to one sports are all about primes . Whoever is in their prime has a huge advantage .
Neither were in their prime. Hopkins may have been older but he was probably closer too his prime than Calzaghe. He won three world titles after calzaghe retired and was still a unified champ 6 years after this fight.
@@glasschin871 calzaghe was fresh as fuck from beating up so many bums
@@meandmynine_tm4161 lol fresh after years of serve hand injuries and surgery’s, hands so bad he could barely spar and had to completely change his style. Hopkins was in the top 3 P4P when Calzaghe beat him.
Dont tell charlie Z, he'll knock them both out. 😂🤣😂
