    I don't know if the devs of this game are Brazilian, but the game is set in Brazil, city of Mariana and they managed to capture a lot of aspects from the BR culture. The water philter, the tiles, the radio. The atmosphere was amazing, great game and thanks for playing Chris!

    This game is like a horror version of "Unpacking" and "Observation Duty" combined. It was definitely a slow burn at the beginning. The huge information dump on the video tapes was longsome, although well written. And, the storyline was an overused horror game trope, imo. The freaky audio was the highlight of the game for me, and of course your obvious enjoyment in playing it, Chris.

    • @shadowjudge921
      @shadowjudge921 Рік тому +1

      I actually didn't quite understand the signifigance of the tapes. Seemed more like they were a sidebar meant to build some of the suspense, but i don't feel they really added to the main story or anything. Of course it could be I just wasn't paying too much attention.

    • @ValosiTiamata
      @ValosiTiamata Рік тому +9

      @@shadowjudge921 I'm pretty sure the tapes were based on another trope started by none other than Monty Python... houses that devour people. Chris was definitely right about the ties to Anatomy (great game if you haven't played it or seen his playthrough).
      My thought is that the original owner committed suicide in the house after some horrible deed and a relative or someone he knew came and the house tried to get them to kill themselves as well (that bit's pure Stephen King-esque speculation, however). It started a cycle, with those who gave in making the house more powerful, but those who survived went on to found the community around the house (hence the neighbour's odd words), dedicating their lives to helping those who survive this "test".
      In fact, I would dare to surmise that neighbour was the wife of the doomed man filming that video, considering her sudden self-correction about living with her husband. Also, note how there was a subtle VHS filter throughout the game that occasionally made its presence known, almost as if this was a found footage story, yet the protagonist wasn't filming. Perhaps the house itself was recording to leave clues for the next owner as the cycle continues.

    • @Scriptor13
      @Scriptor13 Рік тому +3

      @@shadowjudge921 I just thought they were a device meant to trigger the protagonist's self-awareness, SJ, and as a bit of foreshadowing for the viewers. After reading the response of @ValosiTiamata , however, I'm beginning to think I may not have been paying enough attention either. 😆🤣

    • @Scriptor13
      @Scriptor13 Рік тому +3

      @@ValosiTiamata Wow...quite a thoughtful and in-depth comment, Valosi. I think I need to stop doing several other things when I'm watching videos. Hahaha!

    • @ValosiTiamata
      @ValosiTiamata Рік тому +2

      @@Scriptor13 Honestly, I could be way off-base with my assessment. However, if I was the one scripting this game, that would certainly be my intention. The fact that the man in the films seemed to be aware that someone was watching (or hoping someone was) reminded me a lot of horror scenarios where the spirit of someone who is killed becomes part of the machine, so to speak.
      However, the neighbour's odd comments about knowing the house so well, their community's odd mannerisms, and catching herself when mentioning her husband really made me pay a lot more attention to what was going on. It seemed almost like she had been a victim of the house herself and was trying to warn the protag without warning him. But again, that's just the writer in me reading between the lines of an incomplete picture. I'd love to get into the head of the Dev and see what the real story is.

      What really got me, was when I noticed the windows were vanishing slowly, one at a time, rather than all at once like I was expecting. I spotted blank walls where previously a window would've been when Chris was decorating. The house goes from very bright to sloooowly darker and darker. I don't think Chris even noticed till the doors disappeared.

    Six years ago many families from Mariana, in Minas Gerais state in Brazil, as well as some other towns near, suffered a terrible loss of their relatives and houses due to a dam disaster caused by mining companies, such as Vale and Samarco.
    When I saw that brown goop in the basement it reminded me of how the towns were left after the disaster. It was tragic. To this day, the companies still haven't paid their dues.

    Well, that was creepy AF (in the best sense). I wonder if the 'secrets' were not like a 'find the differences' minigame, since (as you probably saw in editing) that door _did_ change color (from aqua to red), and I feel like other doors did as well. Maybe if you had inspected some (suspected) changed objects, those might have been the secrets. Otherwise, 🤷🏾. But it was a cool game, and a pretty good treatment of the subject matter. Thanks for playing and sharing, CJU!🙂

      The house actually changes slowly, little by little, over the course of the game. I noticed fewer windows, seemingly vanishing one at a time as the game went on. It was how darker and moodier the house was getting that tipped me off. Going back through the footage one window or another suddenly wasn't where it had been a moment ago. Very subtle, and so easy not to notice.

    This was a great game, probably one of the best I have seen Chris play this year. I have a few observations:
    1) The woman said she lived kilometers away...as in more than one...and there was no car parked out front.
    2) The thing Chris missed with doors is that they up & downstairs doors switched color.
    3) The fact that your character had NO comment when the doors disappeared.
    4) I would of left the moment basement door was opened...would of set the box in the locked room on fire without unpacking it...jumped through the window the moment the front door disappeared...and then BURN THE PLACE TO THE FUCKING GROUND.

    What sets a good horror game apart from a great horror game is more than just atmosphere, although that's a large part of it. No, what makes a horror game really stand apart is when you want to see it turned into a live action movie. Throughout this entire game, that's exactly what I wanted. When the VHS tapes were merely narrated, I was envisioning them in my head. When the noises began, I could see the protagonist's reactions. And when the house began to grow claustrophobic, I could see the protagonist's slow panic and feel his rising panic. By the end, all I wanted was to see this story played out in live action.
    There've been a lot of great games lately, but it's been hard for me to stay engaged with them for long periods. This one, however, I nearly watched all the way through in one go (blame a two-year-old for the emergency pause near the end). In many ways, the slow burn kept me even more interested because I kept looking for some tiny change, knowing that something was off just from the fact that the house had called to him. In a way, this reminded me a bit of the classic Japanese horror movie Reincarnation (but I won't spoil that one, go watch it).
    If I only have one regret about this game, it's that we never learned more about the strange things the neighbour said about their town's customs and such. Perhaps that had something to do with the secrets or the pastries she made that were barely touched. But either way, that would be a great way to expand upon the game to make it a longer movie and/or be a good thing to explore for a sequel. And also, I have to say it: This game... Scratches... an itch I've been feeling for a while.

    I had a suspicion this game was Brazilian because of the house interior but I had my confirmation when I saw the phone book and specially the clay filter lol. Great video as always.

    The neighbour was probably the wife of the previous homeowner. This is backed up by the fact that she stated that she knew the house well... she also said My husband and I ... and corrected herself by saying I. Which means that the husband hung himself as something happened to their children. As she did not mention them and said "I".....

    Good Anatomy vibes here. Also, the title reminds me of "Skinamarink", though not the gameplay itself. But still great. And this makes me wonder what your decor looks like.

    God, I really hope SH2 Remake will really release early 2024, can't wait to see your playthrough. The movie should be released not long after considering they started filming last april, Jeremy Irvine plays James Sunderland apparently.

    Having a similar situation happen to me almost a decade ago... I'm learning that maybe I need to let it go... before it keeps slowly destroying me more than it should have already.
    Sucks still...

      I understand what you are saying, but also grief can sometimes dig itself into you and make a decade feel like no time at all. Love is forever, so it's totally understandable! I'm praying for your healing and peace in a new normal, no matter how long it has been.❤
