  • Anyone can install a radiator, hoses, fan, clutch, thermostat, serpentine belt, headlamps, with hand tools on a Foxbody Mustang. I had no experience and did it.

It's unfortunate that Motorcraft discontinued the thermostat design that truly locks in place. That feature was great. I fought with mine... it kept shifting in the housing seat. I'm gonna have to pull mine again to flush my engine. This time I think I'm gonna apply some contacr cement to hold it in place.

Not sure what years they came with that housing,on my 90 and 91 the housings dont have those locking tabs, i RTV my gasket in place and the gasket holds the thermostat in place but im sure a little contact cement around the circumference of the thermostat would work great too!

@@dntlssMy 87 had the housing. I agree on the rtv approach. I had decided to go that route. contact cement, may make it hard to remove if there is a next time

Ill share a story about PB blaster, everyone that messes with cars knows how strong oxygen sensors can "weld" themselves to the exhaust over time,my buddy has a 99 Buick Park avenue and he wanted my help changing them,he did the one under the car but the one that sits on top next to the firewall was almost impossible to get out with a cheater pipe, thats bad,i told him we would get it out next weekend but i told him to soak that thing every night before going to bed, the next weekend that oxygen sensor almost came out by hand, i was truly shocked, that stuff is good.
Everytime you have bolts like this just put in a little bit of antiseize on them before you put them back in, you'll be glad you did, also when you put these bolts in dont overtighten them, just good and snug, a rookie mistake is always overtightening things specially lug nuts, when you torque lugnuts with a torque wrench (100 lbs) on these cars the lug nuts come off super easy when it comes time to pull the wheel off.
Ive done this a million times but for your other viewers, when you are showing how the thermostat locks in you have the whole process blocked off so they cant see what you are doing, not sure if you noticed this when you were editing your video, just wanted to let you know.

Yeah, I saw that I was holding my hands up off screen but you can't edit that back in. At least later in the video I show it on screen...
