Designed from the ground up with enough guts to handle the new heavier outboards, yet still nimble enough to run well with only 90hp the 179FS is built specifically for the active family that appreciates the versatility and mobility of a smaller boat while still allowing them to have the fishing and cruising features normally only found in larger boats. The 179FS combines all of that into a package that can fit in an average residential garage and be towed by most modern SUVs. The updated hull design provides spirited performance and superior fuel economy from a modest 90 HP or can be maxed out with the 140 HP option. Although it’s just shy of 18 feet, it still has great features like a folding jump seat in the rear deck, easy bilge access, extensive storage, and even molded-in rod racks-benefits typically only found in larger designs.

once i measure just to make sure it will fit in my garage, i will be getting one too. i like the capacity for a 17' cc.

How far out would you go safely?

All Key West Boats are built with full upright floatation. So in the event your boat gets swamped or capsized the boat is designed not to "turtle" and remained upright and above the waterline as long as the boat isn't overloaded or over capacity of that particular boat model's capacity tag. So with that in mind along with the fuel tank capacity of this particular model and fuel burn rate of the motor I wouldn't hesitate to take this boat out a few miles offshore depending on the water and weather conditions that day.

I take mine 15 miles offshore off SC/GA coast when seas are 1-3 ft above 6 seconds or so.
