For all those asking for an alternative to buttermilk, use plain unflavored yogurt. Buttermilk, traditionally (atleast in India) is made by blending together yogurt and water and then flavored with salt and masalas. :)

I just HAD to leave a comment...this stuff works REALLY well..I've only used it for two weeks now but the dark circles are getting lighter and the fine lines are getting less noticeable...I didn't think anything could help my dark circles because they're pretty dark..I've had to use alot of concealer and it makes my under eye area look terrible and makes the fine lines look even worse(and I use a makeup sponge and very lightly pat it on)...bless you for making this and sharing it :)
I'm going to try your turmeric mask too :)

I think we can use normal milk. Buttermilk is just a more acidic in ph milk whereas normal ones are neutral. You can make buttermilk by adding lemon juice or vinegar to milk. Helpful video anw thnx! :)

I like the stain honestly! I rock it.
*Dark circles are purple/blue* and the *yellow/orange pigment of the tumeric cancels it out.*
Plus, if you pull on your under eye area by washing it off too frequently/roughly with wash clothes, makeup wipes, remover pads, etc, it can irritate the gentle thin skin of that area and just aggravate your dark circles… be careful!

Jess Jess LMAO, try using rosewater and cotton pads to take the stain off, or any makeup toner. I usually just use my face wash (clean and clear morning burst or some shit) and massage it where I put the mask, it works for me and takes the stain off

If your wondering in case you don't have buttermilk then you can make an easy alternative which consists of a little bit of milk mixed with some lemon juice and let that sit for 5 - 10 minutes until your milk gets a little thick and curdled and then you have homemade buttermilk that works just as well as the original pre packaged.....

Can I just say that I’ve been using this mask for the past 4 days and my dark circles were like sooo dark and this mask has lightened them soooooo much. I’ve tried a lot of things and this is the only thing that worked. I am a lot happier now and I definitely recommend this. I am going to keep using this for another week and then I’ll tell you how it goes ❤️

Traditionally, buttermilk is the liquid that is leftover after churning butter. It's low in fat and contains most of the protein originally in the milk. True buttermilk ferments naturally into a thick, tangy cream.

For the people complaining about the yellow skin, turmeric stains everyone's skin yellow! It's not permanent, nor harmful! Just make sure you're not going out anywhere right after you use the mask. The yellow color should be gone in about an hour or so. Or like Farah said, you can speed that up with using an oil.

What would be an effective alternative (vegan if possible) to buttermilk?
Edit: I believe (based on science) that (at least drinking) milk/dairy in general is not good for the body. I know little of what it can do topically, but drinking it I disagree with. Otherwise, I do enjoy the video. Thoughts anyone? Open to criticism.

Hi there. Dairy products contain lactic acid, an AHA, which is good for skin turnover. It is a very gentle "exfoliation" (you won't see flakes or anything") and it also helps with discoloration. So if you don't want dairy, there are other natural products that have natural AHA's. Lemon, grapefruit, orange all have AHA's. But I wouldn't use them in a mask around my eyes. They are very tingly and could feasibly dry out the area. Not the results you are going for. Believe it or not, tomato also has a pretty gentle AHA in it. (Use near the seeds.). Pumpkin does too, but again it is tricky and can go too tingly quickly. If you can stomach it, I would probably do a all natural yogurt or kefir even. Fruits are great for some powerful AHA's, but since you would using them near your eyes on more fragile skin, tread softly the first few times. Don't leave it on too long and just be gentle. Sorry for the long string of consciousness reply - I was typing while I was thinking about it. Cheers and good luck!

    How do you make buttermilk?
    Instructions
Combine the milk and lemon juice. Measure 1 scant cup of milk. ...
Let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Let the mixture stand at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes. ...
Use the buttermilk. Use this substitute (including curdled bits) as you would buttermilk in your recipe.

Ladies your eyes are very delicate! I’ve noticed since wearing a lot of eye makeup and also rubbing it while taking it off, the darkness under my eyes have worsen. Be gentle with your eyes when taking your makeup off, don’t rub it! And give the concealer a break or wear less concealer. I’ll be giving this tutorial a go so wish me luck!!! I’ll remember to update my results in a few weeks time!

C63AMG Lmao btw I’ve tried everything mostly under the sun to get rid of my dark circles. I took a blood test and turns out I was vitamin A, D and C deficient and also anaemic. That explains the dark pigmentation under my eye. Check ur bloods and do some health research it’s not always hereditary.

If the turmeric stains then you apply a based makeup oil OR anything that's oil, on a soft napkin or towel and it should remove the yellowish stain.

To avoid any waste I would recommend you guys to just make your own little batch of buttermilk instead of buying a whole carton and only having it for a week and having to buy another one.
You can make buttermilk by just adding lemon juice or vinegar to milk and letting sit for a few minutes.
And then you have it you little portion of buttermilk and no waste.

It's thicker than regular milk, and it tastes kind of sour. I cannot drink it unless if I have not had anything to eat, otherwise it makes me sick. I also like to thin it out with water because it's easier for my body to handle it.

I love using turmeric on my body but I'm sooooo pale that i do notice it stains my skin slightly :( especially my hands! I advise people who are also very pale to wear rubber gloves so it doesn't make your hands yellow!! :) x

how would drinking something get rid of wrinkles? Wrinkles are caused by a loss of collagen which results in a loss of firmness or pulling and stretching the skin for a prolonged period of time. Milk is mosturizing and I think can help in sunburns..but it's nothing that other moisturizes aren't capable of. If you can take retinoids (vitamin A) I recommend that and ceramides to really help make your skin plumper. Moisturizing your skin will make your wrinkles less noticiable although it's just temporary relief.

Beautiful Healthy Mom do you recommend using milk for wrinkles on face? You mentioned makes new skin cells..All sudden I woke up with wrinkles mostly on my right side of my face-my sleepi ng side. but i think it originally happened since i got a facial skin peel on my face. and was told to ice face afterwards well i think the ice pulled the wrinkles out. Could that be possible Anyone know? Im so depressed about it. Thank you
