- The Deland Sport Aviation Showcase for 2019 opened in his Deland, Florida this week and AVweb was there. In this quick walking tour of the show, Paul Bertorelli reports on a new autogyro from Europe, a re-designed LSA motorglider call the Sun Dancer, a multi-purpose EFIS display from the Italian company, MAV, a new engine option for the Merlin PSA from Aeromarine LSA and how the Brazilian company, Seamax, is getting serious about selling its LSA amphibian in the U.S.

Paul’s videos are always great. Now I wish I had made the trek to Deland. Very interesting all you get for the price on those Italian avionics

Ha ha my doppelgänger 10:05 - what have liked to met your time I was there on Saturday and it was a bit chilly… Was wanting to see the Super Petrel but never seen a plane only seen their booth. My favorites Seamax ( looks like my doppelgänger likes it too haha) Sports cruiser of course, and the Tecnam 2008 and the twin was immaculate!

Ive seen an opposing blade all electric..but i prefer a good hybrid

Amphib at $79,995 would sell like crazy. $200,000 is tough. The whole business is tough. Even a fully restored C-150/152 from Aviat is $119,900? Let’s see $20k for a clean C-150/152. $23k for a fresh motor and prop and control cables. $8k paint. $1.5k fresh interior. $10k basic avionics, rewiring, and loose ends. I’m at $63k for cost. These firms trying to double their money? Wow they’d gain economies of scale if they’d back off a tad on the profit margin. Same with these new fancy LSA’s.
My FAA license is for light sport gyroplane and I fly an Autogyro MTO sport , So I think your assumptions about gyro licensing is wrong

How does one get type rated in a single seat airplane?
You can fly a similar aircraft with an instructor. Many CFIs will give training in any aircraft. Just like they do. You read the manual. Understand the whole manual. Practice taxiing. Then fast taxi down the runway. If you're comfortable enough for a full takeoff, go for it. You also have the option to do a couple of hops on the runway. After at a safe altitude, you test the flight characteristics by doing a few maneuvers. You will test stall speeds at landing and clean configs. 1.3 times the speed of a stall in the landing config will be your Vref. Unless otherwise stated in the manual. Past these, not much you can do. The books will give you an idea of what the numbers may be. They could change depending on the individual builder and other circumstances.

Gyro copters are great, but $140,000 no freaking way. Motor glider cool... err $138,000... yeah pass. Not a great glide ratio. It would be a great kit at 1/2 the price.
I dont recall an expensive kit ever being worth it..
@@jaxxbrat2634 Example? $70k with engine and avionics is cheap. I built two Van's RV's and did it for less than $60,000, but I'm good bargain hunter and do all my own work.

@@ValentinoDagher Each. Yes my first RV6 I built in late 80's, kit $14k, used O-320 160HP from wind damaged piper $10k, rebuilt Hartzell prop and Gov $3k used avionics/instruments day/night VFR about, $8k, paint $5k, upholstery misc $1k... $5k misc and tools, total $48k. Flew for 8 years and sold.
My RV7 started late 90's, bought early kit and $18k, Lyc O360 180HP core $3500 and rebuilt myself $10k, prop Gov Hartzell Woodward $5k, dynon panel $15k, mis $10k, upholstery $600, unpainted at this time. Paint DIY when I do it, $2000 in materials. At $60k. It can be done. If you buy new latest greatest of everything it will be $100k and on up.

For those making smaller instruments, since CPU power and screen size cost virtually nothing, why not make them much bigger while you are already doing a computer and screen combination. Indeed small screens low tech might be just as expensive as big state of the art ones. You could even lead the way and do 24+ inch displays. It's semi absurd to go out of their way to have a round display only to conform to old small crappy dial instruments.
You can't justify that price. It's got a motor and a mast and a free spinning blade. Motor aside the rest of the stuff csnt be worth more than 10k
