Hartley TS16 Sailing and Island Camping Adventure

- This is a video of a sailing and camping trip to an island off Wilson's Promontory, Victoria, Australia, in a 40 year old timber Hartley TS16, the original "trailer-sailer" design. We only had the main up as the boys didn't want to sail with the jib in 20 knots, but she still got moving pretty fast.

Absolutely BRILLIANT memory guys! Loved every second! Hope those boys, now grown, are passing it forward to their children. Thank you dad for giving us this reminder of life’s little pleasures. Did similarcwith my father and siblings in Luanda, Angola, Africa at Mussulo Lagoon was kids 1956-1976. Molds you for life and stays with you forever!
This is what life is about put a tear in my eye 2 boys & boat this what i did as a kid with my mates
growing up in Bunbury WA sailing across Geographe bay
life is about the small simple things all kids need boat
Thanks for sharing! Brought back a lot of great memories for me. My Dad and I built a Hartley TS16 in the early 1970s. I was a child and he ordered the plans from New Zealand. What a wonderful boat.
what a great way to enjoy time with your boys. A really enjoyable video. Nice to live in a place where you don't have to travel thousands of miles to enjoy a deserted beach.
Thank You
Loved the video. Good to see a hartley do more than sit on a trailer.
having just bought a hartley ts16,I can't wait to realise my dream too.great video.
A beautiful video mates. Thanks for taking the time to share it. Cheers!

Great video!! Thanks for sharing it!
Wow, we are thinking of buying a Hartley 16 so your vid is inspirational !!
Well done for getting your boys outside and living the dream, not the video like us!
Keep on sailing guys :>)
As an owner of a Hartley TS21 and having sailed to Refuge Cove in the past (from Port Welshpool) I'm interested to learn of where you sailed from & to as it looks fantastic! As others have said, it's great to see you living the dream.
@MegaHeptic Thanks for the message. I really hope you have as much fun as we are continuing to do. The Hartley community is large, very friendly and run lots of cruises and races in most states. Best wishes, Simon
Great inspirational video. Might be time to trade in my Mirror for a TS16 ;)
Thanks
Wonderful!
HI, great video. I know I’m commenting on an ancient video :) but I have just been tooling around the maps trying to work out which island off the Prom this is and I can’t quite figure it out.
Doughboy Island in Corner Inlet
Good comments!!!!
nice!
An experience that will last a lifetime. It was a good video. And shows that you don't need the money of Bill Gates to have a fun exciting life.
whats that black dot in the sky at 7:40
+Rex Williams The GoPro camera blacks out really hot spots like the sun or spotlights. I'm not sure whether that's to protect the CCD image sensor or so the viewer doesn't see a white spot that dazzles you
Great adventure but no PFD's ?????????
+Earl Hall
Good point
We had PFD's on board for all crew. In Australia the requirement is that they be worn at times of "heightened risk", but it is good practice to wear them at all times
