12 years later and this series is still spot on - with special acclaim for this video for photo match. regardless of how complex sketches has become, these explanations of the basics of the tools is invaluable.
@courage713 Sketchup definitely has its limitations. Any somewhat organic shapes freeze it up. It can't draw circles, only many-sided polygons. Since it's so user-friendly, it's limited in the tools you can use, and so if you want to make helices or any 3-d organic shapes (like an airplane fuselage) it can be extremely difficult, and by the time it's done it usually goes to slow to continue.
@LPSGRGES Inside Google SketchUp go to "Window" -> "Components" and then select whatever furniture you want. There's also a search option to find things more easily. You can also download thousands of models online for free to use in Google SketchUp.
you are a great reviewer thanks so much. your tutorials are so helpful. i am a noob and so frustrated but not any more because with your help i know what to do.
hi. u can go to reach for "screen2exe" in the internet (only can run in Windows System). this is a programe create high definition of audio and visual quality for your own screen record. u can download the FREE version, all of the common media softwares support your outcoming video format.
Finally, an easy to understand tutorial on this, thanx! my only question now is how do you map the other side of the barn if you have a pic? It seems to be similar but the vanishing point lines and the XYZ just dont seem to line up the same way. I cant figure out its method of how it does things
thx for this toturial, i'ts really helpfull but I was wondering. When I match a photo as background for a model that I've already made. Then I can't use layers anymore. Who can I use the layers again? greetz
mm i' pretty sure i did something wrong but dont know what.. when ir orbit my model deforms and when i draw my faces doesnt appear white they look transparent .. u know y ?
Is it possible to set the "scene tracking" (the automatic orbiting, zooming feature which brings you back to the picture) faster? If so, How? Excellent videos, you are a great teacher aidanchopra!
Having a rough time with freehand modeling in sketchup. Im trying to freehand in a dessert floor area, with high jaggd cliffs around each side. I got the floor fine as it in made polygons, but Im starting to have trouble as I freehand in rock structures on the cliffs. Any suggestions ?
Hi Aidan, I was wondering if you find it annoying that hidden geometry is now created in version 7 when you use match photo. Let's say you draw a chimney or a dormer coming out of the roof.. when you project the textures they go to the front most geometry and anything behind them gets subdivided sort of like a stencil shadow map or something. Google "Project photo bug" and you can read a thread about it.. Its EXTREMELY annoying but It doesn't seem to be a bug..
@Hectorino2X Looks like you have the " move " tool pressed as you move around. This explains why they "faces" are transparent. A face is 2 dimentional. Once you have one point not on the same axis, it is not a face as you are creating 3D lines not a 2D face. Try to make a new face and make sure you are locked to an axis. I hope you can understood me and that I helped
Could you explain or show how to put furniture into a photo using this software? Is this software capable of such a thing? Do you know if I would need any other softwares to achieve this? This is quite urgent so if anyone has any leads for me, they would be greatly appreciated. :)
Photomatch I find is pretty easy to do but the one thing that I cant find in your videos or on youtube, internet or in Sketchup for Dummies book, or ANYWHERE is something explaining how you do this on all sides of the building? In Google Earth, textures are on all sides of a building but there are no instructions telling how you do this. I do what I think it right for doing this but it will never line up for all angles of the building at the same time. Please make a video explaining this! :-(
Hey man, this program is not crap, this program was made to easly 3d edition, and it's better than just do what you said cause you can edit, practically, everything, you can do new doors, new windows, just... pacience. I have a video using that program, what I did is not posible to make in that kinda program you mentions.
your videos are very helpful, thank your. the only constructive criticism I would give you for you commentary is let you know that you say the word "kinda" a decent amount. not that its a bad thing, I just noticed that you used used it a lot and wanted to let you know. might just be me being picky
Unlike sketchup which anyone can pick up, autodesk requires lots of effort and reading. Nothing basically. If google offered it free, then we'd have a better tool for professionals to use for drafting but it wouldn't effect the common sketchup user.
Great video thanks .. :) As for people saying can i model the rest of the sides with one image.. back and interiors and all.. stop acting like idiots.. you need to have every image in similar angles as your first image.. ones you have those ..its gonna take ages to allign them perfectly like the first image. its better that you create the model yourself

These tutorials are so fantastic. I highly recommend this guy's book, it's one of the best for Sketchup ever written.
i love you and sketchup, aidan chopra. thank god for people like you :)
I just discovered Sketchup tonight...this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen :)
Yea, seriously, this program allows you to make 3d models pretty realistically like 100 times quicker than most other programs. It's really intuitive.
from here onward all the models i do with photo match, thanks to your help
The speed un creating the model was amazing. Great video.
Thank you for sharing this! This was my first time at SketchUp, and you made it a breeze.
This video came out when I was 8
same

How to activate Photo Match in Sketchup? Or does it work without it? Just matching the axes?
what happen to the other side of the model which have not shown on the picture?

Is there a way to kind of mimic the photo texture and color all sides of the model?

Very fine program. Can you do this on Autodesk Inventor?
maybe in 100 years... I saw a program that did that but you still had to draw lines for it to work.
How I do to paint the same material on the roof and another areas of the model?
mm i' pretty sure i did something wrong but dont know what.. when ir orbit my model deforms and when i draw my faces doesnt appear white they look transparent .. u know y ?
best video !! :) and thanx for the info.
and now the biggest question: How do you add texture on the other side of the barn ??
Is it possible to set the "scene tracking" (the automatic orbiting, zooming feature which brings you back to the picture) faster? If so, How?
Excellent videos, you are a great teacher aidanchopra!
Thanks for the great video. How can I set the real mesuare ? I saw this question was already posted but I can't find the answer

cool. does it have to be a photo or can it be a picture of a drawing you find on google or picture from a comic or a game character?

Fantastic !
excellent job thanks for your hard work
how do u get the correct texture on the back of the model?

what about the opposite side? is there any way to sort of translate textures there?
Do you have any good photos for me to use? I cannot find any.
@321098aj get another picture from the back?
How to draw hollow letters to build in wood?
Is photo match in the free version or is it a Pro only function?
You, sir, are a God. Thank you...
AWESOME!!!
Is this available in the free version?
Thanks so much, I really didn't know how to use properly before now.
it depends on how big the picture is

HaloWarsFreak, You can get the non pro version for free, but if you want a more advanced version (pro) you have to pay
beauty!
Nice:D I suck at photo matching. I never can make the faces in the right dimension!
Nice vid, learned some things from it......thanks. I'll be checking out your others as well.
Why does your sketchup look so different then mine?
@roryh50 its not easy at all. ive used it and its a pain in the ass
Great video. Extremely helpful.
Nice job. Really good info. Thanks.
Great Tutorial! Thank you!
@sharks445 i will admit its hard to understand but practice makes perfect
wow. that is sweet.
Thanks so much for the help.
Amazing!:)
I hate to write stupid comments, but I can't resist saying that you're voice sounds like Kermit the Frog's at times. Great video.
great, nice video.
YOU WATCH THE FIRST VIDEO, like he said at the beginning of this vid :)

I think he sounds a bit like Steve Jobs as well.

thanks!its very useful :).
@courage713
Wouldn't happen. I'm a 3d artist in training, and this is not even close, on any level, to what the Autodesk products can do.
