I was a shunter on the Moorswater from 1984 for many years. In my time it was all class 37s and mostly we'd bring up 15 CDA wagons full of China clay. Later the cargo was cement, though I was never involved with that.
Cheers for your interest in this poplar video, normally the train over the last few years has only ran on a Thursday from South Wales in the months from May to August time, but who knows what will happen this year.
Well yes but that park of the line doesn’t get used in the winter, normally between May and August, but who knows what will happen this year, thanks for watching.
Being a bit of a novice with trains - how powerful are these units in terms of pulling freight are they regarded as good engines by rail buffs ? Sorry if these questions seem a little naive 👍🏻
Richard these locos do about 85% of the freight workings in the U.K. I would rather have the old days when we had verity. Yes they are a powerful loco as they can haul thousands of tons. Thanks for your interest.
Yeah that’s right, I’ve filmed the Colas working a few times at Dawlish Warren but never been down to Moorswater since I did this filming. Thanks for comment and watching.
Excellent stuff Mike, quite strange to see these little branch lines still open. At least the freightliner shed blended in with the foliage. 🤓 Well done, stay safe 🤓
nice emergency stop at 13:17...his m8 taking photos lol...(drivers m8) ... driver boots it then doesnt he...lol soon as I saw that kiddy sat on platform ..knew driver would toot horn for him...ha
Oh great pleased you noticed that, and he certainly did motored up that bank to Liskeard. I must have left home at one in the morning to have got there that early, mad days but I'd do again.
I'm guessing Westerns and Warships used to do that in the good old days. At one point it looks like someone has got a class 66 garden ornament Lol Great vid, good catch. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t know Ian if Warships or Westerns did this working in the old days but It’s possible they could have done. I know class 37s did before the Sheds. Pleaded it my you smile. Regards Mike.
Hi Mike, yes they are trying hard to keep us safe. On the workstation your more than two metres away and in between times you have to be careful. The amount of people in the building has been drastically reduced and anyone with under lying conditions is staying at home. Everyone wiping down and extra cleaners in. So far all good. No probs, good video. Hope your keeping safe?
Thanks Keith for replying, I know roughly your work environment area as I visited Trent Box once. Pleased all is ok with you, I’m doing what’s asking but I am missing getting out and about. Keep safe Keith. Mike.
In the time that all this shunting went on my road trailers would have been at their destination with all my manufactured goods deliverd to my clients DC. Sorry rail is dead. DEAD.
Yeah, the thing is, each of these tankers carries about 46 tonnes, I think. So a train of say 20 of these would require 20 lorries, or more. Rail wins on large quantities, not small loads. Cheers Rich
Very interesting video - the state of the line beyond Coombe Junction - it’s a miracle it could take the weight!
Yes but it make the situation more interesting.
Excellent. Thanks for all your effort and for sharing. I would never have had the opportunity to see this movement otherwise.
Your welcome Martyn, I’m pleased you have enjoyed my video, and I have to thank you for watching it.
Fantastic footage mate, like how the 66 emerges from the bushes! 👍👍
Yes it looks good doesn’t it David. Cheers Mike.
Yes with cars moving across, seeing if it's clear.
Can’t believe That is 2004 in the real world you could tell into 16 years agin but in the video it could be today. Can’t believe.
Cheers Matthew for watching and your comment, pleased you enjoyed my old footage. Mike.

David I wish the 37s still did this working when I filmed this footage, thanks for telling your story in 1985. Regards Mike.
Excellent video. So many Steam Locomotives photographed in the 1950s by my late friend Dave Soggee from your locations. All overgrown now of course!
Thanks for your comment Stephen, and for taking a look which is much appreciated.
@5:46 definitely a 'path less trodden'.....
Cheers Baz for taking a look.
Fascinating to watch. Thanks for taking the time to capture and share. Are there still operations there now?
Cheers for your interest in this poplar video, normally the train over the last few years has only ran on a Thursday from South Wales in the months from May to August time, but who knows what will happen this year.
A great and interesting video keep em coming
More should come every two days Paul, thanks very much for watching. Mike.
Always fascinating to watch shunting movements, especially so at locations like this. Well shot Mike.
Thanks Bryan, I’m pleased I found the footage as I had forgot about this trip to Cornwall. Stay save during this pandemic. Mike.
Lovely footage. Very weird to see the shed surrounded entirely by bushes!
Well yes but that park of the line doesn’t get used in the winter, normally between May and August, but who knows what will happen this year, thanks for watching.
Have you recorded this from a tv screen or monitor ?
THE APPEARANCE OF 3 E TEDDYBEARS HAVING A PICNIC IN THE WOODS WATCHING THIS TRAIN WOULD SURPRISE ANYONE !!!.
@@WhiskeyGulf71 It was shot in 2004. That was the state of the art back then.
I lived this video so much.
Good footage shot there.
I love to do videos of trains too. 😊
Thanks great, thank you for your interest.
Enjoyable video mike , found it interesting
I wonder if this will run this year.
Nice to see the old units too!
Thanks Tom for your interest in my latest upload.
Thanks for that, really enjoyed it.
That’s great Mick, thanks for taking a look. Much appreciated.
Is this still in use today past Coombe junction? Quite a steep incline
Don’t know yet as it usually runs from May through the summer months.
Super video train. Big like.
Thank you for your interest in my video.
I like the sound of his engine
Nice one Keith.

Brilliant, like going back in time
Cheers for having a look Alan.
excellent footage👍 do you know if that line is still running or like other lines disused and pulled up
Morning Barry yes it normally runs in the summer months but I must admit I haven’t noticed it yet, it my start in May.
Why does it look like it's been filmed through a silk veil?
Does it, might be the way I got it onto YT.
Must of been using Harry Potter's invisibility cloak
Great video, very enjoyable.
Does this still operate in 2020?
And is the line still open? 👍🙂
The line will be open, but it’s to early to know if this working will take place this year Ian.
Looks a very complicated diagram. How long did that take to shoot beginning to end?
It took around eight hours to film all the movements mate. Cheers for taking a look.
Whays in those tanks and wagons?? Clay?
Pass I don’t done, these days it’s just tanks from South Wales. Thanks for your interest Tony. Keep safe.
@@antman09ful1 ha, I'm in North wales. Have a good evening.
Cement
Nice video . Colas now do a working from Aberthaw tarmac with a 70 or 66 to Moorswater .
Yeah that’s right, I’ve filmed the Colas working a few times at Dawlish Warren but never been down to Moorswater since I did this filming. Thanks for comment and watching.
Great bit of old footage there Mike. Pete was with you I see.
Yes he was, we must have had a early start to have been there first thing in the morning. Should have got Pete more in videos.
Great footage.
Thank you Alan, pleased you enjoyed the video.
Oh lord never expected comments from this week. Oh and why is your name antman?
Why didn’t you expect comments this week?
It’s a name that come to me while have a drink in The Netherlands, I wish I know why.
Knew why I meant to say. Thanks for watching.
@@antman09ful1 Im so dumb that I didn't even look at the upload date I thought the video was uploaded back then :/
Very nice Mike!
Thanks Simon.
Great video
Thank you, pleased you enjoyed this old footage.
Never knew British Rail did Forestry Service :-P
Nice one.
This was 3 years before I exist
Was it, thank you for taking a look.

Cheers Anthony, this was a very long day to go to Cornwall and back in the same day.
totally brilliant.
That’s very kind of you to say that Matthew, thank you. Regards Mike.
Interesting watch. They could do with trimming the trees a bit. This is a popular video.
Well yes but then the video wouldn't be so interesting.

@@persecutedcatholic5854 I would say it was so the shunter who was taking photos could get back on board.
Something different Mike....nice footage of a 66 doing some shunting.''
Yeah I forgot about this day out. Regards Mike.
I'm guessing Westerns and Warships used to do that in the good old days.

Roughly how many trains went into moorswater in 2019
One a week in the summer months, don’t know what will happen this year.
Nice!
Thanks mate for watching my video, I do appreciate a lot.
seen them in victoria station really noisy pulling venice simplon cars
Have you, didn’t know Freightliner locos did them ECS diagrams Peter.
I remember chucking ballast back into wagons when some idiot put down too much in Victoria platforms. I was on the pway in the early 70's.
Good catch, good shots.
Cheers Keith for watching, and are you managing your 2 metres gap at work. Keep safe. Mike.

Time for the weedkiller.
Yes Mike, not sure if the like will get used this summer.
In the time that all this shunting went on my road trailers would have been at their destination with all my manufactured goods deliverd to my clients DC. Sorry rail is dead. DEAD.
Yes it takes all day Andrew but it’s a long way from the Peak District to Cornwall, Cheers for your comment.
I've never heard of Sorry rail. Odd name.

And all that pollution your trucks make are killing the planet. It’s far more efficient to carry large loads by train.
My 44 tonnes are far less polluting than these old rail locomotives.
