It's nice that your wife approached this discussion with an open mind and genuine curiosity even if she's not into the hobby like you are.

It's so interesting hearing your wife speak about things that the average flashlight user wouldn't even know. It shows how "on board" she is with your hobby. My wife otherwise would care about a knife at all, but after living with me she could probably talk more about them than the average M-tech carrier. I'm sure that like your wife it's more of an osmosis issue, but that's what happens when a wife isn't against, or just tolerant of our interests. It usually shows that she's happy that you're happy. I believe we both found the right ones for us, and that's a blessing considering what I see other people go through when the situation is "wife vs. Husband's hobby". And then to sit down and actually participate for an hour, wow. Thank you Mrs. Cheule 😁👍🏾.

The Citadel, more than any other light I think, is 100% worth the price. The machining, the hand finishing, the perfection in how the head and body line up perfectly, it’s all a masterpiece. Jesse is amazing at what he does. It’s definitely a grail of mine and I will definitely be saving for one. 👌🏽

Never knew that about blue not going through skin. Like an idiot I tried it with my d4s with 4x osram blue leds on turbo. What I discovered is that even if blue doesn't penetrate skin it will still burn the crap out of you.

I think you have a great way of putting it: (With the D4V2) Here you're focused on the flashlight ability of it, and here (Fancy Customs) you're paying for an art piece that happens to be a light.
That being said, I want myself one of those Reaver Citadels some day!

The Future Boss 35 by Oveready is the only custom I own. I'm already searching for the next one. I'm lucky I still own it. It fell out of my pocket in a gas station parking lot. I didn't even know it was missing till 20 min. later after I clocked in at work. I made up some excuse, clocked out, drove back to the gas station and found it under a van.

I really like the Icarus driver from Prometheus. Probably my favorite thus far.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  11 місяців тому +1

It and the h17f are kissing cousins and developed in concert with each other. I like to think of the Icarus as h17f without the “f” (FET). Or, Icarus for single emitters and h17f for triples.

@@cheule I have a question for you. I've got an old ozark trail thrower that has an XM-L LED and uses two 18650's in series. I would love to upgrade the LED with something even more throwy and warmer if possible. Do you have any recommendations for an LED and driver? I am having a hard time finding them rated for higher than 3.7v. Nominally would two 18650's be referred to as 6v or 9v?

That's why I carry a Mcgizmo -there is no compromise between function and form. His lights are strikingly gorgeous as a side effect, he makes HIGH END lights with HIGH END electronics (best sourced bins and emitters in general, copper boards, programmable driver with up to three preset files which still a decade later in 2022 isn't a standard issue feature by any means, silver wiring, etc.) And then the pocket clip... The clips themselves are legendary in their own rights and do one thing really well: clip! It's such a shame when I see gizmos with steel flame clips plus they look just tacky and dorky imho but that is neither here nor there, they certainly aren't a badge of prestige or anything of the sort: matter of fact that's usually the distinguishing feature to tell a light from a user and a looker is if it has a quarter lbs skull pocket clip it's probably just a show horse which to each his own but I like to really exploit the functionality of a well made flashlight and embrace the fact that I'm just exercising it's components like you would do any finely crafted automobile or musical instrument all the while knowing the more you use it that the more broken in it becomes not broken down like most consumer grade electronics which more or less has expiration dates, shelf lives. Whereas Don (McLeish) and really any other self respecting integrity driven us builders and craftsman of any high end tools all use the best of the best in terms of longevity all while best implicating a system or ecosystem that caters to the best of what's available today while simultaneously remaining configurable for tomorrows upgrades as per forecasted data.
I truly believe that Mcgizmo lights always have been and remain to be the peak or golden standard by which all other high end or "custom" flashlights could be diminutively measured.
I have tried the rest, (seriously damn well close to it.) And the haiku was actually amongst one of my first purchases so I had it the whole time I didn't realize till later on though just how great and excellent of a flashlight it really is which after all is the whole point right?
    Just my take.
Thanks for the video I like to see other people's take as well it's always healthy.

Just watched the vid….yeah it’s great your life at least listens and attempts to make her interests hers…wanna know what my wife does?..I have to literally hide and store my lights away because she loves to catch me slipping, when I leave one out or one falls out of my waistband at night in the bed, she’ll wait for the perfect time to blind the SHYAT out of me. She finds it HAAAALARIOUS. I will have to literally wrestle it out of her hands as I stumble around listening to her uncontrollable laughter.
Yeah we have fun…but I DID NOT marry her for her sense of humor!

If I could put U in a corner for a second…If you were to give your opinion on ONE “tactical”, portable- (doesn’t have to be tiny..I rock tactical pants daily) -but you would trust your life on the dependability, functionality and most of all the ability to melt eyeballs in a flash and well enough to give you the upper hand 2 evade/defend. What would be your answer sir…I have several different EDC lights from surefire 2 Olight…but what would be the NIKI MANAGE, Ferrari, Lighty McLighterton, Fire stick of flash lights In your well respected opinion sir? Please O please this rabbit hole is just one I’m ready to get the heck out of…My wife kinda brought me to the “light” by making the point that “you only have 2 hands and 12 flashlights…money well spent.” But with your title as “THE FLASHLIGHT GURU”…yep that’s what I call you…I just know your opinion will let me finally sleep at night instead of endless UTUBE videos.

For durability, reliability and efficiency, I like AceBeam lights. You say you want tactical, and don’t mind it on the larger side-have you looked at the E70 from AceBeam? It’s a 21700 light with a XHP70.2 in it. Very bright, runs a long time. Aggressive crenellated bezel, tactical strobe (triple click), tail switch if you are using it in conjunction with a pistol. I’m going to make a video about it in the next two days.

I do NOT understand this world of cUsToM flashlights _at all._ It seems like running to stand still. These have none of the features that more run of the mill enthusiast-grade flashlights have but they're also many times more expensive. For example, there are no options to truly customize but a $25 Convoy lets you pick the LEDs and color temp, none of the on-board charging that flashaholics seem to demand of the lower end of the market, arguably shittier switches with no shortcuts to moonlight or turbo, no battery level indicators. Most of these don't even have lanyard holes. Can't even get it in a limited edition color like an Olight or a Thrunite? Also you have to wait forever or be part of some secret group and respond to the email blast at 3am to get access to the sale. I do not see any improvement in performance or function and several decreases in features. What are you buying? What are you paying for? IDGAF about having a rELaTiOnShiP with the maker.
They look cool (But then again, so do many flashlights)

    • @cheule

They’re art; the machining is impeccable. Think of it like this; a Rolex doesn’t tell time any better than an Apple Watch. But they are very different experiences.
