I have been on Fontana before, but never in my own boat. It is a spectacular lake. I have an old 17 foot Sea Ray. Just never wanted to haul it over the mountains from Morganton. I've done water skiing and wake boarding on Lake James for over 20 years and just recently got into sailing.
I sail planing dinghies. But I would like to have something like your Catalina to take to Fontana for several days, something I could sleep on. I think spending a week sailing on a small cruiser would be well worth the trip over the mountain.
Jason, I grew up fishing nearby Santeetlah. Here'sthe deal. For some unknown reason, the way to catch fish on these "power lakes," is to use a jig that is dressed with only a dozen or less hairs from a bucktail. Use a quarter ounce jig head. These lures are handmade by local people. They work! Folks who fish with these, catch fish on them year 'round. Also, the locals call this a "fly," which is short for "doll fly." You won't hear people talk about these "flies," very much. But they will catch fish when nothing else will.
Oh Hell Yeah!! Jasoooooon!! I almost sent you a text yesterday to say you can still sail in the winter!! It is time to get some coffee and kick back and see what you've got for us!
Awesome!! Great video as always!! It was great to see pups kicking along and the wonderful and always beautiful Mrs. Odyssey looks better than ever! I love the inserts like "go back to GreenBOW ALABAMA!!!" and the eagle slick!! lmao!! I have a sailboat and I also have a 16 foot side console. I swear one day I am going to see you out on the water! Thanks for another great ride along!! Did you get a new camera? ⛵⛵⛵
Mesmerizing. As far as bait, what did you use? Never fished there. Bass are so hard to catch. Maybe minnows or some smelly bait. Maybe? I don't know. Haven't been fishing in a long time. What do I know? Nothing . But it's still fun to try.
This is an amazing look that so many won’t ever see. Rare!!
Nice video sir. You earned yourself a new supporter. Cheers
Hey, Thanks Man. Maybe if I watch some of your videos, I'll learn how to catch some fish 😅
Boats, happy tails, beautiful water and scenery! In clear water like yours, I would go with light line, long leaders and live bait.
Hey Slim, Thanks for the advice man. I've learned a few tricks since we filmed this but I can use all the help I can get !

Nice. This was our first time on Fontana and it was amazing. It’s a big lake with lots of cool spots. We saw some steady wind too ⛵️

Thanks for watching James. A man really needs multiple boats for different occasions 🙂 Same with cameras.

Yeah, we had fun just being out there. We’ve caught a few since this was filmed so crew morale has improved 😁
