You do NOT need to give ma the hard sell on Warren Zevon, I’ve been a huge fan of his since I was in college. I remember working for a pizzeria in Madison, Wisconsin and screaming along to his songs in a rusty Ford Taurus on my deliveries. I still scream his songs when I drive, Excitable Boy is a desert island album pick.
Thank you, this was wonderful! So happy that I got a chance to see him live in the 90’s at a small venue (of course, right?). Got a high five from him from the stage!
Excitable Boy was the first vinyl album I ever bought... LPs were gone when I was a kid, it was the cassette era. Your editing, prose, perspective, and narrative are amazing. New subscriber, good job!
Phenomenal video documentary. For fans of H.S.T. and Zevon, there's a phenomenal series of documentaries the filmmaker Wayne Ewing did following Thompson during the late 90's and 00's. Zevon appears in most of them, most notably in one called "Breakfast with Hunter" where Zevon does a great acoustic rendition of Lawyers Guns and Money, Thompsons favorite Zevon track. He also reads a fiery letter Thompson penned in "Back Story of The Rum Diary" 'round the 34 minute mark which, is also exceptional. What I mentioned can be found here on UA-cam.
I think if I had to pick one, the Signature Warren Zevon Songwriting Move would be the way he brings an incredibly sophisticated sense of phrasing to songs that are melodically very simple. When he sings "Drugs and wine and flattering light, you must try again 'til you get it right...." in "The French Inhaler", he's just singing over Gmaj and Dmaj, but the little rhythmic subdivisions that make the phrasing of it so ear-catching are at the level of like a Cannonball Adderly sax solo.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Warren Zevon's Tales from the Crypt song in the eposide where a cop is haunted by Tyler Durdan!!!! Cause it's Tales from the Crypt, that HAS to be the Tyler Durden force
Great vid. I thought I was the only person who enjoyed both pro wrestling & Zevon. Good look dude. I think Empty Hearted Town may be my fav song but Hockey Song a close second for me
When Zevon announced that he was terminally ill, Bob Dylan adjusted his setlist at the time to perform multiple songs from him. ua-cam.com/video/QoZdkIdIgsg/v-deo.htmlsi=QnUivYUTHvmNN0ss
Zevon was criminally underrated
Totally

I only found out about Warren Zevon through that Adam Sandler movie in 2009s “Funny People” his music was like poetry, really amazing!
Carmelita by Zevon is one the best songs of all time
It's so beautiful
I listened to Zevon in the 1970s on my dad's McIntosh stereo with Bose 901s my dad built. He is in my playlist, Lawyers Guns and Money is my favorite.

Tremendous
Zevon is missed. Zevon shouldn’t be inducted into the Hall of Fame until there is an open bar. Thank you for not mentioning the Hindu Love Gods.
I do love that Raspberry beret cover though
