- Turn on Backtrack in the Compass app when you begin a hike, and your Apple Watch will track your route. Then if you get lost, you can tap Retrace Steps and follow an arrow to find your way back. Backtrack is available on Apple Watch Series 6 and later, including Apple Watch SE, with watchOS 9 and later.

Horror movies of people getting lost in the woods will have to get more creative, I see...

There’s a GREAT Ad here!
Imagine if you are relying on this to not get lost and you press delete steps instead of retrace 💀
They should put a confirmation at least if they're going to have the two buttons so close together lmao
@@pepo_boyiino need for a confirmation since red color always grabs the user attention to delete something. If both are of the same color then a confirmation would be useful
@@user-gx5wz4jn9nIt does need a confirmation. Some people have such big fingers that even a 44mm isn’t big enough so it’s easy to press the wrong button
That is a possibility for sure and when people are under stressful situations, they can make that mistake.
If you want to avoid that chance, just long press the side button and it will say “compass backtrack”
I was trying to figure it out on my ultra this weekend, actually way easier than I thought. Gonna try it tomorrow on my hike
This is a life saver... 🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
It worked really well when I used it on the Ultra, but would like it it signaled when you left the track.
Cool! Using to navigate through neighborhoods on my mini moto today for fun.
That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing how this feature works!
Thanks you apple support these videos are very helpful ❤
The backtrack and waypoints option does not appear on my apple watch. It's setup through family setup. Please help.😥
I use this on my rural hikes where my phone doesn’t have signal!!
Pretty cool if ur tryna get back to your car in a malls parking lot
Okay thank you! Gotta wait until I have the ultra hahaha
Thanks, great video!
How about the bottom on the left?
That is so amazing!
My watch says I need to enable significant locations in settings on my iPhone to record and retrace my steps? I’m not sure how to do this though?
We’ll be glad to assist you with getting this set up.
Significant Locations can be enabled by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services, then tap Significant Locations. This can be turned on there.

Been looking forward to this since I saw it in the Apple Watch Ultra trailer!
This is very useful feature
I tried using this inside a maze but the backtrack location is not very accurate
Awesome for disney sized parking lots

Allow us to assist. Given permission, the Compass app will have access to your location on the Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 5 or later to track your current location and elevation. I’m curious why this wouldn’t work with a Series 5, the first one with a digital compass built in
They want people to buy newer watches sadly 😢
Can I use this feature to find and record an outdoor walk? I want to be able to record my route on Apple Map and save all of the information every time I walk.
That automatically saves into your health app, as well as all the other data collected from your watch
Been looking for the app but can’t find. What’s it look like or can you put a link in here

i don't see white triangle on my watch. How do i turn on white trangle?
Hello. It sounds like you might referring to the white arrow shown on the compass. Make sure that your Compass has access to your location so that it can see and use your location. Check out the corresponding section of this article: s.apple.com/dE4w3r4z8A

This is awesome! Does it work without internet connection?
This is a great question! We’re glad you asked, and it would be our pleasure to answer.
You won’t need an internet connection with your Apple Watch, just a clear view of the sky. Backtrack works the best when you’re away from significant locations like your home or workplace, or you’re out of range of Wi-Fi.
If you have additional incredible questions, our Apple Support team is always happy to help. You’ll find the best ways to connect with them in many countries here: apple.co/GetSupport
So when i get to my hike tomorrow at the park im going to do i hit to start backtrack but do a waypoint first than do my hike and when finished retrace steps back to that waypoint?
That’s a great question! It does appear that you’d initiate Backtrack, and once it’s started, you can then use other features of Compass, like setting up your Waypoints.

there is no backtrack button
We can provide some insight on this. As mention in the video, this feature is available on Apple Watch 6 and later.
Retrace your steps
1. Open the Compass app on your Apple Watch.
2. Tap the Backtrack button . The Backtrack button becomes a pause button and Compass begins tracking your route. You can continue using the other features of the Compass app, and Backtrack stays active even if you open a different app on your watch. If you lower your wrist, the Compass app returns to the forefront because your Backtrack session is still active.
3. Tap the pause button when you're ready to go back to where you started, then tap Retrace Steps. Your starting location appears on the compass.
4. Start walking in the direction that you came from, indicated by the bouncing arrow, following the white line in the Compass app back to where you started.
5. Tap the animated Backtrack button when you're finished, then tap Delete Steps.
You can find these and additional steps in the link here: s.apple.com/dE4w3r4z8A

That’s how we are forced to buy the new watch, only for extra features that the previous watches can have with an update
This is on the Series 7 too it’s a software update nothing to do with Ultra
Imagine planning to use this but apple watch's poor battery won't even let you turn on your watch.
We want you to enjoy your Apple Watch at all times.
