Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world
Casts a shadow on the shallow love it hurls
To the feet of swine it need not cast its pearls
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world
And the sound of the void
Flows through your body
Undestroyed
And the sound of your voice
Flows from your body
White as noise
And the void speaks to you
In ways nobody speaks to you
And that voice fills the air
Fog in the morning, going nowhere
Lonely, lonely, lonely face under a veil
After all the laughter emptiness prevails
Born into this world with no consent or choice
Lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely…
Had it not been for Lovecraft Country, I would not have discovered this beauty. Wonderful music.
Literally where I found the song too ✨🥺 it stays on repeat for me
Same here 🤗
This music haunts my mind, melancholy soul
The video, gorgeous
I first heard him on the HBO show "Insecure".
If you ended up here, you my darling have a good taste in music
TRUTH
Aww thanks
Yes darling
I am two years late . . . . but now I can say .... at last . . ;-)
Thanks✊🏻
Moses will be heard 200 years from now, mark my words, his talent is way to head of our time...
yes dammit
This song goes so well on Lovecraft Country. In a show full of sad character arcs, Montrose has one of the saddest character arcs yet. And this song in that scene encapsulates it about as fully as I’ve seen yet. Such a good song, such a sad character, such a great show.
I liked how Montrose explained his reasons for marrying and having a family to his son Attica. It was a touching moment of reconciliation. Don't be sorry for Montrose, he is not sorry for himself, he comfortable with who he is, he loves his son, and his son loves him back.
The script writers are very imaginative, keeping you on your toes. They are presenting the unvarnished truth of racism in a format which is accessible to a wide audience. Great acting by the whole cast.
Yeah it’s sad he died recently
Just got reminded of this song by lovecraft country and had listen to it again
That's how I heard it for the first time.
here cause of last night's episode.. lol
😢❤❤
This guy has far fewer views than he deserves.
actually hes way too popular for how annoying boring and simple his music is, all his songs sound the same this is not talent
As always happens with most of true artist like him.
Hell get there.
He's doing that grandiose falsetto thing that Prince has. But he only seems to have one dimension of it... Prince has many different ways he comes at you. All of them great. All genres. Now people know what we Prince fans felt like when Prince wasn't fully credited and accepted for his gift!
90% of youtube is shit
I love the color contrast between him and the mermaid. Black seems to be his favorite color. It’s mine too.
Exactly. In this video, colors are perfect.
Well, black isn't a color...
He is a Witch. A Wizzard. Wise One. Black is the Color of Divine Chaos and our Origin before Light. Black is the color of Magic.
BLACK MAGIC.
@Choꓘolate and?
This song gives me the feeling like I'm breaking free from something. I love it so much.
In the end, it was he who was the siren all along, capturing us all with this mesmerising voice.
honestly he’s most underrated song
Lovecraft Country brought me here! This is the most beautiful, melancholy, soul provoking song I’ve heard in FOREVER! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😔💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽🎯
well make sure to check out the album this is from, it was the best album of 2018, and all the songs are of this quality
The siren calls the sailor and prescribes him freedom from the loneliness of the sea. Cover your ears and look away, because she'll crash you into the rocks so you would be swallowed by the sea . There is no freedom from loneliness in the arms of another, be at peace first with your situation to be able to thrive in it.
Wow, Im speechless. Tysm for this
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
whoa thank you
Powerful ❤️💙
Brought me to tears for a while man, thank you
a deity sings through these mortal lips.
He remember me to Nina simone , Radiohead, Prince , his music is unique!
We heard Moses Sumney open for Sufjan Stevens in 2015 and I thought, "Now, there's a headliner." Lovecraft Country brought me back and I'm here to stay.
They just featured this song on Lovecraft Country Ep 5. This song was already one of my favorites & I just lost my mind when it started playing. The scene was well paired with Moses's musical essence💜
Same I said...Omg omg...wait...
It's one of my favs too. I did a quiet scream when I heard it on that scene lol. It was a perfect song for that moment.
Im so glad and greatful that the quarantine lead me to find him and his music
Everytime I come back to this I expect it to already have millions of views because it just seems like it SHOULD. The music is so beautiful, the lyrics, the VISUALS. I accepted that at this point it’s just a matter of time. But mark my words, he will be gigantic one day. As of April 2020, still underrated though.
You are so right, should have millions of views. I became acquainted with Moses last night as I watched the CBS Tribute to Congressman John Lewis. The Proctor and Gamble commercial featured his song "Doomed" and I had to know who was singing. I searched the Internet to find out who was behind that voice, but his contribution to the commercial is obscured. I found the commercial on UA-cam, finally, after 20 minutes of searching by asking "Who is singing the song in the P&G Commercial called "The Choice" turned up nothing. Once I found the You Tube Video, I was able to read other articles that came up in that search and one of them mentioned Moses's name. I felt like I won the lottery. I may be late to the party, but I'm here now!
Candyl Mikayla I love it! Yeah, he’s really like a hidden treasure. I can’t even really remember how I found his music but I just remember listening to one song after the other, in AWE at how every single one is so beautiful. He’s an amazing artist, really. Also, I can’t believe I wrote that 3, almost 4 months ago and I still listen to him a lot and it still holds true. He’s still underrated.
This is one of the best songs ever made and ever produced! Moses’ build up and Thundercat on that bass and Ian Cheng on those drums😩❤️🔥 life made complete!
I'm so glad to see more and more people discovering and appreciating Moses' music and art. This man changed me in a way that few artists have, honestly I haven't felt like this about anyone since I first discovered David Bowie when I was a little girl.
His expression is like a conduit to a Higher Truth. I fucking LOVE him.
Sonically beautiful, visually disturbing. I see a relationship based upon salvation, disintegrate into conflict and destruction. But I so love the drumscape...
John Preston I love your description dude! So vivid!
Classic from 2017! 🖤
the most beautiful voice ive heard in my lifetime
his voice is so unique, that as soon as the tune came up in Lovecraft country, I knew it was him! Such an underrated artist
I thought it was Nina Simone. So happy to find this fellow.
Aromanticism is fucking amazing.
This man is an angel
At first I didn't like this, but then when it got to the end...DAAAMN THIS IS GOOD. I feel like it shows how people try to fit their significant others into a certain mold, so that they can be alike. Because people can be so uncomfortable being who they really are in a relationship unless the other person is the same way. But in the end everyone ends up suffocating they're own potential
That was a beautiful assessment of this! Perfectly summed up!
Taylor Renee is this not from aromanticism?
what the hell were you watching ? how the fuck is anyone trying to mold the other one? just desperate to spit out your motivational facebook quotes..
Agreed! ☺️
@@JohnSmith-bw6pv What the fuck is wrong with you, everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, FUCK OFF BITCH!
Who followed me here from Lovecraft Country?
What a beautiful song and video!⭐️👏🏾
😘
Indeed!!
Mesmerising, ancient, powerful, addictive, truly spectacular piece of art. Thank you.
This Song is so Beautiful and Sad.
Just discovered him from watching the Apple TV Movie, Swan Song. I’m addicted now. Have been listening all day. AHH MAZINGGGG
Incredible voice.
Glad glad glad to know that I wasn't the only one knocked out by this song when I heard it on 'Love Craft Country'. When I heard it I immediately thought, "Lorrrr, I could have this looped through my entire house and not get tired of it! Beautiful.
You're 4-for-4 at this point, Moses. Your album is going to be so sooo legendary. I pray it don't get slept on.
This shit sucks it will literally have people sleeping..
I first heard Moses Sumney when he was featured with James Blake on the song Tell Them. I instantly recognized his pure tones on Lovecraft and just this past weekend you can hear his beautiful voice in Ta-Nehisi Coates "Between the World and Me star studded documentary. It's been a long time since I've been lifted by music.... I have an out of body experience each time I listen to Sumney's voice.
so much beauty! congrats Moses... no of the best albums of the year!
Chorus 1]
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world
Casts a shadow on the shallow love it hurls
To the feet of swine it need not cast its pearls
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world
[Verse 1]
And the sound of the void
Flows through your body undestroyed
And the sound of your voice
Flows from your body, white as noise
[Verse 2]
And the void speaks to you
In ways nobody speaks to you
And that voice fills the air
Fog in the morning going nowhere
[Chorus 2]
Lonely, lonely, lonely face under a veil
After all the laughter, emptiness prevails
Born into this world with no consent or choice
Lonely, lonely, lonely,
"The Miseducation of Cameron Post"... I wonder if this is the same girl from that movie... Beautiful artistry all around...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Oh how I adore Sasha Lane 🖤
This dude is phenomenal!
Sitting here thinking... how did I live any kind of life not knowing about Moses Sumney and this song for the last three years?
I am in awe of this guy and his melodic phrsing along with the guitarwork and it’s ambiguities.
Gorgeous.. glamorous..
So beautiful, the voice, the music, everything 🎶🎶💖
Lovecraft Country brought me here, oh and am I glad it did, this piece is absolutely mesmirisingly beautiful.
Moses Sumney and Tosin Abasi, both unmistakable artists, nobody like them.
We require melanated ecologies, to endure the atrocities heaped upon us. Distance and patience, like reclaimed land, required as well. Thank you.
From Brooklyn, With Love. Peace.
His voice sirens ghostly.... Reminds me of early Tenor Saw.....
Real emotion/ Vision apparent/ Fresh sound/ Good freaking luck, Moses/
I'm happy to have found this guy
I keep being drawn back to this video. The sound and the visuals are so mesmerizing. I'm addicted...
LOVECRAFT PUT ME ON TO THIS SONG...ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS
I still wear this song out and to hear it featured on Lovecraft Country gave me such joy. Moses is such a great artist. I'm glad he's getting more recognition
One of the most underrated talents of our time!!
His talent is so overwhelming that the sheer magnitude of his elite artistry in all his work makes the masterpieces he gives us in most of his records eventually ends up underappreciated.
Plus Love craft country brought me here..
this track has me inspired
Frequency stories. God stories. Where love comes from.
That was intense. Loved it 🖤
The song choices from Episode 5 of Lovecraft Country were just EXQUISITE! This one being at the top of the list.
Thank you Lovecraft Country, that scene was perfection
Pure art
This song is so powerful and chill. I got all these emotions
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, Season 1, Episode 5
Wonderful choice!
1:09-1:17 are some of the most beautiful sounding seconds in history, such a good song
Respect from Belgium!
This music is exquisite!
“Utterly Speechless”🌹😎 ❤️💙
Never ever ever comment but I stumbled across this by accident and have made a rare rare exception. This is beautiful and brilliant.
I'm not sure if caring a mermaid on land is helping her... no wonder why she got mad at him
I just couldn't stop thinking of Worth It watching this.
His loneliness kept him from returning her to where she belongs, instead keeping her to himself which angered her she kills him. Cool video.
I thought that too but slightly different towards the end. She didn't want to go to the land with him because it's not her habitat (comfort zone), but instead wanted to take him underwater where he would literally die (his discomfort zone), so she struck his head so he couldn't resist and took him underwater where he will obviously die from. I think it represents a struggle of a relationship in which both sides are not seeing eye to eye and being selfish, and they ended up broken apart. It represents a bigger picture of how romance actually works in the world, and he's saying that we are all being trapped in this loop and that the world is actually a lonely one where no one will forever stay with another.
I second the 'selfish love'-theory, Zay. Except I don't think she killed him because she wanted him dead, I think she took him underwater simply because she wanted the same as he did; a chance for romantic love... which, due to humanity's selfish nature, side effected into him dying. Talk about 'aromanticism', jeesh.
They meet at a kind of common ground (some water some land) and as they (the relationship) progressed, they quickly got bored with the inconveniences of having to live another way. A romantic love however, would be one where they meet at a common ground and stay their untill they die... one might understand Moses Sumney's troubles with accepting the experience of true romanticism. ; )
Brocht Vasquez that’s what I meant to say.. she wanted to take him under water because of the attraction but not knowing that that will ultimately kill him unless there’s some sort of magical power in her kingdom that will make humans breathe under water
Beautiful! So many meanings in this, true exposure of the desperations heart.
What are you even trying to say? :|
wow...that was something special
Have to say , only things about Lovecraft country I loved , the first couple of episodes , the different ad libs they add , this song , and Christina . Thank God for Tune Find
It was about loneliness
Ended about fear
Everything about this is beautiful.
Endlessly obbssesed. How does this not have millions of views? Every frame is beautiful, and the song is otherworldly
Apart of me is like What the hell and the other part of me "is like girl stop you listen to Sevdaliza." XD
Sevdaliza is also fantastic!

Thank you so much "Lovecraft Country" for introducing so many amazing songs! It's just pure art🙏
Lindíssimo, belíssimo, envolvente, dolorido 🖤🖤🖤
Its funny, most mermaids are taken for sirens but this one didn't make a sound and she still lured him in. 🧜🏽♀
Beautiful video and song.
I loved this guy ever since one of my fav songs by flume 🖤
I mean, I keep saying, I bet Prince would kill it dueting with Moses if he was still here with us. Also, reminds me of Billie Holiday with his swoons and melodious sounds . :))
Beautiful ❤️
Moses and Sasha, what a combo!
