I travelled this line in 1994 to Simonstown. I remember seeing a train carrying supplies (armaments??) for the South African Navy running down the line. We had to cross the road to get our train as armed sailors were guarding the consist. It was a pleasant and memorable holiday. I also visited Durban and Johannesburg and enjoyed those cities too.
Superb video and stunning location. You seem to have a bit of a problem there with graffiti. Suburban trains here in Sydney get tagged occasionally but they get cleaned pretty quickly.
How often have I waited to photograph a steam powered train, only to see it coming tender first? Have travelled this line and would like to again. Good video, thanks.
Hi Jarrett, I am a train lover and would like to use some of your footage for a video on the Metrorail in Cape Town, I will credit you. The X'Trapolis Mega sets haven't completely replaced everything, so we still have our old 5M2A and 10M3 sets, occasionally but very rarely the 8M shown at 08:41, not sure about the 6M, but I know the 7M has been decomissioned for years.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I am making a video of the history of the class 8M (since stored out of use), you can see the 8M at 8.42 on the time line. Would it be possible to use this clip with full credit given to you? Its not easy to find footage of the 8M. Have a look at some of the videos on my channel.
Hi Jarrett. I'm currently working on a promo video for my Master's research and I'm in need of some footage of South African public transport. Would you mind if I used a few seconds of footage from this video? It would be much appreciated.
I Jarrett im working on a film about the issues with Transport in the Western Cape and I need some clips on the issues with the current train system, could I possibly use some of your shots?
We buy the ticket each an every month but the trains delayed every day how can you take 2to3 hours from cape town to Philippi station and why metro don't give us buses if there is no train
One of the things I loved about my trip to South Africa.
Was a fun adventure riding these trains.
I visited South Africa on a school trip but I never got a chance to ride any trains :(
for some reason,I find this very satisfying. apart from rush hour, I always liked taking the train
Simonstown - Cape Town, the most beautiful and scenic railway line in SA!

@@Jayayess1190 Thank you. Much appreciated.
so the rebuilt ones are retiring
Yes, but not for along time. It is going to take 20 years to replace all of the Metrorail trains across South Africa.
+Jarrett Stewart ok
We sitting on the station almost 3to4 hours these no trains
We buy the ticket each an every month but the trains delayed every day how can you take 2to3 hours from cape town to Philippi station and why metro don't give us buses if there is no train
Why prasa collect the money from the people but they know they have a poor service on other side l have a ticket but also l must pay money for taxi
Poor service for prasa
