Creativity is great. Such a transformation can make the multimeter more useful. Our multimeter wire is very soft, resistant to cold in winter and heat in summer, and easy to use.
Some weak devices may get damaged by the inrush of the .1uF cap, so it'd be good to come up with some kind of limiter, but otherwise this is simple & great for most things you'll test.
I liked the idea. A suggestion: The working frequency is probably quite high so I believe that replacing the 1N4007 diode with a fast recovery diode like the UF4007 can generate a higher voltage and perhaps reduce transistor heating and battery consumption. I think this type of diode can be found in scrap electronic ballasts for fluorescent lights.

Thanks so much for such a great and creative idea. I will try building it using an 18650 lithium battery instead of 1.5volts. this way, I can charge the battery with an external battery charger as needed. May I also suggest using a 0.36 Inch voltage meter instead of a multimeter and package everything (the circuit, battery and voltmeter) on a small plastic container. This way it becomes a stand-alone LED measurement tool. Thanks again
The idea is good. But I think you will have problems with the led meter and the working voltage of the transistor. The current that the circuit supplies is very low and even if it is enough to make the meter work, it will cause the output voltage to drop. I advise you to use the 3-wire model with the power connected directly to the 18650 battery and the third wire to the circuit output. The ones I have here at home work well with 4 volts, I don't know if all are like that. Also, feeding the circuit with approximately 4 volts will make the output voltage easily exceed the measurement limit of 100 volts, I don't know how much these meters support at the input without burning out. And obviously you will have to use a transistor for a higher voltage and current and a bigger heatsink too. One solution might be to place a resistor between the battery positive and the circuit input to reduce the 4 volts. Start with 10k and try lower values until the circuit works correctly. With values below 1k use resistors for 1 watt or more. I also recommend an electrolytic capacitor of about 100 uF or more at the input of the circuit.
6 DEC 22 - I tried winding AWG 17 on a 1.5" hollow, cylindrical ferrite core. The wire was solid core, coated in purple vinyl. My weakened hands and fingers could barely bend the wire. It was nothing like what inventor AW used. I had to superglue two plastic bottle caps to the ends of the cylinders to make anchor points and allow walls for the windings to align with. Unfortunately, in widening the anchor slot with a pair of fine cutters, I did *something* that caused a chunk of the ferrite core to fly off into the world somewhere. The missing chunk appears to be a quarter of the cylinder. Went back to Elliot's Electronics, here in Tucson, and found a $2 manufactured cylindrical core with AWG 26 magnet wire (enamel or lacquer coated; not sure which) wound about within it. I've extracted the wire and am working on winding the 20/50 shown in the video. 26 is much easier to work with, though it taxes the limits of my dexterity. I just wound the first 20, and am going to lay down a layer of kapton tape to isolate the 20 windings from the next 50. The 50 will be done tomorrow. :)
