    Great video, as always. Packed with useful info for those that are new, and those of us that can use a refresher from time to time. I would add that on 12v frame ground locations they be inspected at the beginning of the season. I use a small brass wire brush, remove grounds, check connectors, clean any rust from connectors, attachment screws, and threaded holes. Reattach grounds using contact cleaner. I am impressed with your analytical processes. Beginning to finish your vid was packed with common sense approaches to common electrical problems. You have impressed upon others the need to slow down, observe, analyze, form a plan of attack, and complete a task by relying on one's self. "Knowledge is the basis of problem solving, injected with a large dose of self reliance, and a pinch of confidence."
    All things are possible!! Bless you, and your Family. See you on the trail.

    Thanks for exploring this with us. I want to add a 4-in-1, 12v charger panel, that has usb/cig lighter/voltage meter/on-off switch so my grandkids can charge their devices inside the Pop Up. We mostly boondock, we call it camping here in Alaska. 😂
    Most of the tourist bring their big RV’s and stay on compacted slabs of gravel, pushed in like an apartment one on top of another, run on shore power, and never get to see a squirrel run by a pretty bird.

    Great video man. I love learning more about campers. It makes me feel more ready. We went a few weeks ago and I bought solar panels with a charge controller and with limited garage space I figured I would hook up a power quick connect to the battery but I would do the rest of the installation while camping lol 😂 it went fine. I had to make a couple guesses due to poor instructions and no cell service lol. Also I made the reflective inserts for the windows. The first night we didn’t have them and the heater was constantly turning on. The next night with them it was much nicer. It definitely works. Thank you for all you do.

    What about the trailer lights for when traveling? Ours doesn't work, so we had to get the magnetic lights that plugged into our tow vehicle. I'd like to get the lights working again but don't know where to start. We have a 1997 Coleman Seapine. It doesn't have the electrical brakes.

    Hi!!
    I have a 1996 Coleman Fleetwood Pop-up and I am having issues with trying to replace the battery wires? I bought it from an individual that just used the electrical plug-in and never the battery. I was looking at replacement wiring, but not sure how to get to the connector. I looked under the trailer and I was able to see a small hole in the plywood where the wire goes, but have absolutely no idea how to get to it. There is a wire that is connected to the tongue, but there is no connector piece available to attach new battery wires to connect to the battery. Does anyone know a way that I can access the wire? Can I remove the thin particle board under the bed? HELP PLEASE! Thank you!!

      Tough to say without seeing. However, in theory, the positive terminal of the battery will connect to the converter and be protected by a fuse. Likewise, the negative terminal of the battery will be grounded to the frame of the pop up.

    Hi, can someone explain something to me..
    This popup only has 1 battery.
    I looked up on line how long can that battery run 12 volt lights, and it said about 4 hours, so what i want to know is
    1. how do people use it for the whole day or two?
    2. What charges the battery when u are not plugged in?
    3. Even fully charged, how is that battery strong enough to run lights, whatever you have plugged into your outlet and a heater or AC?? Lol
    Please, someone explain this to me

    • @ItsPoppin
      @ItsPoppin  Рік тому

      Switching out the bulbs for 12v LED bulbs helps significantly in addition to only turning on the lights when needed.
      The previous comment regarding question 2 is correct, the only way to charge battery is by being plugged in or getting power from solar or a generator.
      Also, of note, your 120v outlets will not work on battery power. You need to be plugged into shore power for your outlets to work.

    Great video! I’m tryin to determine the best course of action with a 12v battery. If I use just that can I run a fan and charge phones overnight? It sounds like no to me based on the video, but if I can’t what is the battery really useful for when boondocking? We may not have shore power available to us this go round.

    • @ItsPoppin
      @ItsPoppin  2 місяці тому +1

      You can definitely charge phones overnight. The fan will largely depend on the wattage and keep in mind it’ll have to be a 12v fan. Maybe a battery powered fan would be a good option?

    • @pettylarson86able
      @pettylarson86able 2 місяці тому

      Great idea! We typically use the fan mainly for white noise, but also just for air circulation since we don’t have an a/c

    thank so much, my problem Is little bit more....I have a 99 Coleman Santa fe popup Hello, I'm looking for the electrical schematic diagram for the 1999 Santa Fe Popup. Last time I used it, the lights and all the electrical worked fine but after three months of storage, nothing electrical works. From the battery to the converter box I have the proper voltage. In the converter box, the top 2 fuses are fine but the bottom (3rd) battery fuse blows as soon as it is put in place. 12.8v (battery voltage) is measured at that fuse receptacle.
    I heard it might be the kill switch according to the one video I saw from you. Other than that, something is causing the one fuse to break but yet I have nothing on in the pop-up unit. So that's why I am asking for the electrical schematic design and the event I have to follow and search for a short. Do you know where I might find one?
    Thank you

    Great Video.. I have a 2001 pop-up new to me.. If the battery is dead or disconnected should I be able to run the lights on the inside of the trailer from shore power? The outlets inside are working but no lights. Also when the battery is fully charged and connected are the lights supposed to work or is there another place to check to make sure all is turned on?

    • @ItsPoppin

    I wanted to ask you a question, I hope you can help me. I have a regular pop-up and I want to put a solar panel on it, just to charge the battery. The idea is to eliminate the possibility of charging the pop up's battery through the truck (when connected) and charging it with the solar panel or when you connect the pop up to city power, it only works (automatically) with the latter. Do you know how it could be done? From already thank you very much

    First time I've seen this great video and your channel. Thank you! I was looking for preview of my upcoming attempt at adding a DC Bluetooth Ammeter in my Viking behind the WFCO and add a new wire feed on one of the existing circuits that isn't being used much. I'll remove the WFCO cover to expose where the wires come onto the front next to the fuses and then pull each fuse to see which appliances are wired to which colored wire. With the DC Red wire nut you've indicated where the POS might come in, but didn't show where the NEG (white) would come it, although I assume it's somewhere on a terminal bar attached to that copper ground wire. I'll go looking! Thanks, again.

    Hi- I don't currently own a Pop-up camper, but my Husband and I are in the search for a Pop-up camper that can be pulled with a 2020 Subaru Outback. What do you suggest as a light pop-up camper ? I've watch many of your videos and do appreciate you keeping in simple for those beginners like me!! We are in search of a small pop-up since in will be just my husband and of course our dog. We don't need a toliet or shower or AC since we do camper at State Parks for the most part. But it would be a plus. I can always use a fan for AC, since those can be heavy. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

    New pop-up owner here, this video was super helpful, thanks. I am dealing with a mystery that I can't solve, and I wondered if you had seen before. When the camper is plugged into shore, power, I plug in an electric heater that runs at 700 watts. After about two minutes, the 15 amp breaker trips. I don't understand why. It doesn't appear to be related to the outlet I'm using, because this happens no matter which outlet I choose. At 700 watts, I'm only running about 6.3 amps, yet the breaker is tripping. Have you seen this? Otherwise the system seems in good shape. Thanks.

    I know my solution isn't right for everyone, but I did a complete rewire of my system. Where my converter was located was very inconvenient (on wall/floor under dinette) I removed it and moved service to under my bench seat for dinette. I put in a house subpanel and a dedicated plug for a new stand alone 12v converter, which I inturn wired into a 12v fuse panel capable of 12 circuits.
