The idea for this video was originally supposed to be a short 2-day side project, that ended becoming a massive 2-week monster as I kept working on it to get closer and closer to the original game. Hope you enjoy! :) What should I do next??
I am in the process of creating an engine in the spirit of AOE and while searching for guidance on a specific technical issue I found your video. I really loved what you were showcasing, especially the blender stuff. Well, until the part where you fired up AE and talked about the fog of war. At that moment I suddenly realized you are not implementing your own game engine to fake AOE but rather you are literally faking everything in a video sequencer. Man, that was convincing! I event thought about asking whether you plan to open source it. Very well done!
This is truly an amazing love letter to the original AoE! I love how you nailed the color palette and the feel of the iconic MIDI music. Let's hope this video gets the attention it deserves
After watching most of the video and looking at the comments, I noticed that your channel is criminally small. So let me comment about "look, sound and feel" of your channel, at least based on that video. Its at the same level as top simular themed channels channels on UA-cam. You doing a great job.
You absolutely nailed the ui, terrain and buildings pixel art. The only thing that gave it away is, how the villagers having too many frames and going too smooth compared to the original.
engaging, easy to understand what you're doing yet impressive work (to a layman) big nostalgia factor this might be the one where your channel blows up
First off awesome project! When you say render the images out in blender what goes into this process, also is PS completely necessary for this sort of graphics?
That ceremony dance really does look like it belongs in the game. It makes one realize the lack of culture in AoE as a game mechanic in favor of economy + military.
Watching this video I was like "wow 😲 this dude is amazing and this channel probably have millions of subscribers. Than I decided to check and saw that it has 1k ??? 😲 I had to double and triple check to be sure that my mind is not doing tricks with me. So, you have 1 more sub now. Wish you millions soon.
So I wish! Have you played the Definitive edition? I think they might have re-rendered the original models with a higher resolution for the occasion, which offers a better view on what those old models looked like
@@Miche-Miche Haven't bought/played the Definitive edition yet, not sure if it would run that well on my current setup. But from what i saw/read about, they completly re-made all models for it. And those models were converted into 2D for the new version, which is really impressive. Because i thought they were all 3D at first. Which kinda saddens me a bit, because modding would be nice with those models.
Do you know how to create a program like aoe2's capture age?, if I had a tutorial perhaps I'd make one for aoe1 in the future as it seems i'll be staying on this game for life and I wanna grow more features for it

Amazing job! How long did it take you from start to finish?
Thanks! I think the project took about 2 weeks to complete :)
This is amazing!
I wish they would release the original 3D models from the original game, don't care if they look ugly or not.
