  • Last term our third year ladies explored and restaged the iconic work 'Rosas danst Rosas' by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker within their weekly contemporary dance class. Working with the original movements and structures to maintain authenticity and respect whilst creating small adaptations in order to include all 13 students. It has been both a challenging and valuable experience for our students.
'In 1983, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker had her international breakthrough with Rosas danst Rosas, a performance that has since become a benchmark in the history of postmodern dance' (Rosas danst Rosas, 2020) It was seen as 'a statement of girl power' ((De Keersmaeker, 2011) and has become a timeless piece of chorography that’s meaning and significance is evident whether performed on stage or in film. Even today, in 2021 people are still able to connect to the chorography that carries out 'seductive movements in a framework of mathematical repetition' (Rosas, 2017) where ideas of masculine and feminine collide to almost cancel each other out and so 38 years after Rosas danst Rosas was originally created it is 'still offering a new vision on womanhood' (Rosas, 2017).
