- Basics for 4th gen rs trail convert.
1. Cooling. You can swap to a bigger exchanger witch is a headache. I just ran engine ice and 2 sets of ice scratchers a set on the rear rails and the skis the add the extra idler wheels. From Goodwin Also swapping tail flaps will help.
2. PUMP GAS 91 octane would be recommended if you go on long trips and need to fill up at gas stations. You'll need to do a re fuel map contact carey.daku@brp.com at the ski doo race department he is super nice
3. Next you'll need the 600r consumer head. I've heard of people using the European head too. With the 600r trail sled head you will need to weld or block off the coolant line hole that's viewed in the video
4. Keep your original spark plugs make sure you index them.
5. Clutching you can find clutch kits for these or do your own set up. Also maybe change your gearing
6. Fuel tank. You can look up trail tanks (you will need a different seat) for a bigger tank. Or find a 17-18 xrs tank that will fit also. Or keep your 5 gallon tank and get a fuel caddy (I wish I kept my tank) 19 rs and newer maybe different
7. Run a good oil and don’t try to go 50:1
40:1max if you have good oil and won’t be running it as hard like trail vs climbing. It likes 32:1

I live in sweden and we have 98 octane in our fuel pumps so i don't really have to trail convert my 18 rs. I just put a little bit of race fuel in the tank

Where did you get your head from
I ordered it from skidoo parts house online and had to tig weld a couple ports
What's the hp loss for the trail conversion i figured I'd buy one and plan to get a strap on mountain tank and only trail close enough to airports and purchase fuel that way it was pretty easy to get fuel for my old trx250r that way also high octane fuel what little you can smell of it if you spill is way less rotten.

I am in the process of trail converting an '18 RS from Ingles also. I've ridden it for about 60 miles. It doesn't like to start when its hot. Push the hot start button and it usually helps. (I know that's not what it's for) Cooling seams to be a big problem. What is the temp reading on the digital readout mean? The one with the funny little t. (the other reading is E so I assume it's exhaust). I alos have a RAVE valve problem - the actuator screws are stripped so I ordered a new mount casting. Goodwin clutch and gear set is awesome.
Not starting when hot maybe a low compression issue

@@AndrewSanders52 cuz i think ima build more of a off trail sled but i use a sled deck so i need reverse and ima do all you did but i might put new rails or extension and put a 146 it would be sick

It’s not just retarding the timing with the hot start, it’s almost flipping the ignition 180.
is the remap & low comp dome recomended if i want to run 91 in a 2017 rs?
im looking into buying one but would want to run 91 instead of the 100

How did you drain the coolant?
I blocked all the ports off and left one open and sucked it out with a vacuum.
What would be the part number for the trail head that you used
It was just an oem 600 trail sled head. Had to get one of the ports tig welded

@@lucouimer29 make sure you can get ahold of the skidoo race department. Yes any 2018 600r trail sled head will work fine
How much did it cost you to trail convert the sled in total? And would that be in USD or CAD?
I haven't really added everything up but around 1000
1,000 usd for pretty much everything give or take
What's a fair price for one of these sleds
You can find them for about 5 sometimes but mainly 7 if used
These sleds sell pretty cheap and sometimes racers have a hard time selling them only because there really isn’t a big market for them but any rs that’s about 1-2 years old you should be able to get for 6000-7000

Btw, welcome to the club! I have a trail converted RS -18 too.
Just look up 18 rs trail tank. You'll need to buy a new seat for it also. And thanks man how are you liking it

What are you getting for MPG on the conversion? My conversions seem to consume about 2x vs normal stock trail sled ..
Yeah I get this question a lot. Honestly I’ve never really did the math on it. I figure around 10-13 mpg. But honestly not sure. What’s your set up?
