So facts on Cleopatra, the whole most beautiful woman in the world etc. was a targeted campaign from the Romans to discredit Cleopatra. Fuck smart women I guess. She was a brilliant strategist and diplomat, mostly because she learned a lot of languages so didn't depend on translaters (there are records found of her speaking 9 different languages). She was also very loved among her people because she insisted on learning Egyptian as opposed to a lot of her Greek speaking predecessors. Fascinating figure, worth reading up on.

Apparently there was someone called Jesus, or the equivalent thereof. Several early writers, including non-Christians like the Roman Senator Tacitus, write independently of each other about a Jesus who was referred to by some members of the populace as Christus and was sentenced to crucifixion by governor of Judea Pontius Pilate. However, even this should be taken with a pinch of salt since Tacitus apparently gives no reference for his intel and was born about 25 years after Jesus was supposedly executed. There's no literature about him that doesn't illicit a certain amount of doubt. Personally i see no reason why there wasn't some hippy bloke called Jesus running around with his mates and either being delusional or psychotic or a trickster about whom people spun exaggerated tales.
Ngl when I saw a clip recently of ricky gervais calling kids with cancer bald and the R word, even I thought 'I could do better than that', it's just cheap shock humour nowadays with him, nothing clever or insightful like James Acaster for example lol
