This is by far my favourite series. You're doing things i wouldn't even think of in my dreams. Like the arched road under the bridges, SO smart! Your way of layering is insane!
i dont know if im getting crazy, but did imperatur repeat the same phrases in 7:21 and 8:45? And other than that, great content man, this episode looked slightly like a futuristic utopia will all the high rise, pedestrian access and brigdes. Very nice!
one of the key differences in my understanding between chicago and san antonio river walk is cars. san antonio winds through and around buildings under some roads but chicago the entire thing is right next to roads and you don’t really have a second to be in the park because it’s just all city. San Antonio’s is much smaller but it’s so much nicer, greener, and it’s truly a river walk.
As for stopping cars on pedestrian roads, I'm pretty sure that the pedestrian-only policy (when you make a district) works, but the problem there is that it's a district, and you've got normal roads underneath pedestrian ones in this build. That being said, it might work fine if you make a few little districts on pedestrian hotspots, and, fingers crossed, the AI will understand that no cars should be going from one pedestrian zone to another, even if the bridge linking them technically allows cars. You will still see service vehicles on the ped roads btw. Your builds, as always, are utterly mad, in the best of ways. The way you blend things together, alongside your ability to work with different heights is 10/10. Layering is such a great trick for making wonderful urban spaces, but you pretty much have to be able to build in another dimension 😅 I guess I have a smooth, 2D brain. Huh.
Hello, I'm from Spain and I'm amazed by your content and your way of making cities, the creativity and ability you have to conceive spaces and lay out roads, pedestrian spaces and in general design the cities you make, greetings from Valencia
This might be my favorite video of yours ever! I have followed you for about five years now and you just keep getting better. The amount of elevation in this part of the city is absolutely crazy and i love the sunken part below the main entrance to the station. Keep it up man!
Great build! Would be cool if a branch came off the metro tracks on the box bridge and curved left to eventually join up with the metro tracks that pass over the central downtown station!
@imperatur 7:36 the reason for this is that those vehicles that are driving on pedestrian roads are actually goods/service deliveries. They're kinda a literal requirement unless alternate vehicle roads (like ones say alley roads with small parking lots placed on the back of the buildings opposite of the pedestrian only roads) are provided for services. (Ambulance, firetruck, police, maintenance, small cargo delivery, movers etc...)
I just love watching your videos! Your builds are super cool and unique, especially the stadium, the dam, and I get so many techniques and ideas from you!

I love how you seamlessly turn multiple buildings into one big one
just incredible what you can do with all theses mods, would have been something if the game came out with all theses working without crashing, crazy job you do
I absolutely love this series! You never fail to show the magnitude of difference between a pro and a novice using the same 'tools'. We all play the same game, yet you manage to make such amazing builds!
I love this build! It reminds me of Utrecht Central Station in the Netherlands for some reason... I also don't know if you take suggestions from the comment section but i would love to see a little old town in the downtown, it doesn't have to be large because it might have been burned down or something like that but a small old town with mixed-use shops would definitely make me very happy, because mixed-use historical city downtowns have always been my favourite places to just walk around in irl!
Very impressive build as usual! My only wish would be to take some time every episode to zoom out, take stock of the whole city and how the new tile relates to it.
@@RipperDoc His builds are so detailed. I always end up watching the cinematic at the end over again at a 50% reduced speed to give myself more time to take it all in.
Wow this station Is surely one of your best ones if not the best. Btw i also have the problem with the game crashing when i move the camera so if you find a solution could you tell us in One of your vids?
From my understanding cars only use pedestrian roads when they have no other option. If a building connected to a pedestrian road has parking, (internal or external) the cars are probably trying to drive there.
I had a similar problem with trains where it would drive backwards to a station only to pull out again and head to its destination. Once I found out where my track was missing a merge and fixed it the backwards train problem went away.
No in my city I Highway i had a 4 way intersection that lead into and out of the city. To reduce traffic but keep connectivity for buses i turned one of these 4 ways into a pedestrian street and zoned nothing on it. The sums still cut through rather then go around. Even with options sometimes the sims break the law.
I'm always getting so inspired after watching those vieos, then i start a new file and give up after 2 hours because i lost all my money and im losing like 20k per hour
bro, i think in the dead spaces between the center and the other districts a zoo would be something pretty realistic and interesting. Another thing is that u could make some chill spots very detailed hidden in the city to make it feel more alive and nostalgic like the intersection of the streets Paris and Londres in Santiago de Chile or the Plaza bismarck in Valparaiso where the fotos doesnt make justice to the beautifull and chill of the place. Greetings from Chile
I'd love to see you recreate something like hudson yards over here. That central station seems to be leading towards the ocean where there can be a trainyard that gets half-built over, just like Hudson Yards :)
There's a solution to drastically reduce the number of cars on pedestrian streets - remove all the solid lane connections on intersections leading to pedestrian areas and replace them with dotted connections (holding Alt). Occasionally there still will be some cars that don't follow the rules but most of them won't go there.
what I find helps with keeping cars off pedestrian streets is to disable turns onto them. it will stop all cars from going on them except service vehicles
An idea about to stop cars going on pedestrian roads... Can't you use the traffic mod and edit the roads to forcefully stop cars from turning into them? Such as deleting the line between the pedestrain path and the actual road? If this does work however, service cars won't be able to access these buildings unless you specifically hide these service buildings in other buildings on the pedestrain roads... Or if you don't want to use the mod, I guess the ingame mechanics to prevent turning left or right could also be used... Its a shame there isn't anything like what we had in the original game through a mod where we could decide what vehicles could use what roads.
@@theorixlux Indeed, that is why I mentioned hiding such services on the pedestrian walkways so those buildings will be serviced. Of course, this is just an idea I had which can be built upon or completely discarded
So far as I can tell, the pedestrian roads have a lane for vehicles that are treated as if they are service vehicle / bus lanes with a very low speed limit. These create a penalty for the route favourability that normally means vehicles won't a route along pedestrian roads. The catch is that if the other paths to a destination are much longer or heavily congested, the penalty won't be strong enough to prevent vehicles favouring the pedestrian road. It's the same reason that cars sometimes make illegal turns at a junction or use bus lanes. The alternative routes just score too poorly in pathfinding because of poor traffic flow or length. The same will happen if there's no other route available (eg, a building with a car park or garage that faces onto a pedestrian road). Then there's Taxis - they're considered service vehicles so don't get a pathfinding penalty for using pedestrian roads or bus lanes (except for the lower speed limits) in the first place. Using road services to prevent a left or right turn onto a pedestrian road won't stop this if the alternative routes score poorly enough. The 'no right turn' sign just adds an extra penalty, it doesn't disconnect the nodes entirely. You can use the lane connections mod to prevent it, but that will also stop service vehicles from accessing the buildings.
finally some more awesome urban content, don't get me wrong I love industry but the urban regions of the city have felt lacking in size compared to the industrial regions.
Would you build a historical center too(with the new regional packs)? It would be really cool to be right next to the new city center, to have access to the shoreline and to have an old port but redeveloped with modern buildings like in Hamburg
I’m not 100% sure if this is the case so don’t take my word for it, but I think the issue with cars driving on pedestrian roads is due to building parking lots and such being placed on pedestrian roads meaning the cars would be forced to drive on them. Again, I’m not sure if this is the case but it might be something to consider.
Very good, especially the different heights, which is quite common for such city centers. it just seemed very gray to me, I don't know if it's because of the graphics and color settings, but at times it looks like North Korea or Belarus, and some buildings are characteristic of that brutalism. so you'd want more colors and glass if it's an American city.
cars drive on pedestrian roads if they have to, i.e. garbage trucks and police cars. you can make a custom road that has tram tracks instead of a car lane but that might break things in the long run. also you might want to make a custom pedestrian road for trams with a higher speed limit, as they drive at walking speed otherwise
For next episode you should make a busdepot next to the mess of train and metro tracks coming in to the main station as that it verry realistic and you see it in a lot of bigger cities...
fairly certain non service cars use ped paths if there is integrated parking for buildings in the ped path network. Maybe try deleting invisible parking lot zones with better bulldozer? never tried myself.
How cool would it be if police cars and employees acted like agents that would chase down and apprehend offenders? maybe even impound vehicles? it would add quite a lot of drama...chasing down cars that want to joy-ride through a pedestrian zone

Why doesn't the game add streets that REALLY only people can pass through, or I don't know, a mechanic that allows you to disable the passage of vehicles on these specific streets?
In that case, the game mechanics would not allow mail to be taken from buildings, ambulances would not be able to come to pick up sick citizens, police would not be able to come when a crime is committed, garbage would not be picked up by garbage trucks, and so on.
@gris2261 But that's what the street hierarchy is for and it doesn't necessarily need to have anything on those specific streets.
