- 'Something Strong' celebrates 20 Years of Melbourne Ska Orchestra in song!
VINYL / STREAM HERE: snd.click/20YearsYoung
It’s been a pretty amazing adventure with the Melbourne Ska Orchestra. Born out of love for the genre back in 2003, the energy that all the musicians have invested has translated into a fun filled mission in the name of Ska. The music by it’s nature is a community event when performed and we’re lucky to have created a family vibe that has propelled this special thing we’ve created into a double decade story of Joy. 20 years young is a valid description of where we’re at as the excitement and creativity within the band is still burning strong. With our World Tours and Awards we know we’re doing something unique and positive in the music world.
This single is a snapshot so far….so much more to come…..
Long Live Melbourne Ska Orchestra!
Long Live Ska!
LYRICS:
20 years young to the day
When the orchestra started to play
Hep cats from Melbourne town
Got together for the Monster Sound
Hip vibe in the Gershwin room
Oh Saint Kilda she went boom boom boom
Celebrating 1963 Jump Up 40th anniversary.
Why don’t we do this again
We can party like the best of them
Feels like we all belong
Knew we had Something Strong
Fell in love with the 2Tone thing
Originated in Jamaican Swing
Coxsonne, The Duke MrBeckford too
Mosquito jump in the hot Calallo
A record contract who would ever guess
Mashed up Womad and the big bluesfest
Montréal Turkey and Glastonbury
NewYork, London at the BBC

Here's to twenty more years!
Congratulations MSO. I can‘t wait to see you in Brisbane in a fortnight. I discovered you during lockdown in 2020 & I’ve had to wait 3 years to see you live. The last minute cancellation of 2021 Bluesfest ruined that attempt to see you. I hope that this will be the beginning of more frequent touring. Good luck & keep skanking.

The greatest Melbourne Ska Band ever was Slyboots.
Those kids had Sony Australia promising the World , but delivered the shittest contracts seen in Melbourne..
Slyboots..
They came..
They saw..
They kicked the Melbourne Ska scenes Ass...
1999-2001
Knew when to call it a day.
Never dragged themselves down into some Nostalgic Late 90's Ska Punk wank festival like I see with Area 7 and The Porkers..
Slyboots were the best in Melbourne Ska.
Nice stuff here from Nick Bomba
Vale! Slyboots
