I bought several trees from Hardy Fruit Tree Nursery 4 years ago. Originally, I planted them at the cottage but after the first winter, the deers had chewed up everything. Luckily, they did not chew right down to the graft so I dug them out. We had just purchased a house but our move-in date was only in July so we potted the trees up and only transplanted them in the summer. After enduring all this shock, my trees still survived. 4 years later, they are thriving and I have hope that some of them will fruit for the first time this year. If you have room to grow full-size fruit trees, the Hardy Fruit Tree Nursery is the way to go! Full-size trees can still be pruned for size and be kept at about the same size as semi-dwarf trees. They have great varieties, amazing quality trees, and outstanding customer service! If you can, pick up your order in person so that you can meet their great team!

Lovely video. I got four apple trees from you last fall and am currently waiting for them to break bud here in zone 2 Saskatchewan. I am sure that they will be just fine. I was impressed with you stocking Minnesota 1734.

I'm impressed. I wish you have a team here in FL so I can buy fruit trees hardy to zone 9. Dada is cute, by the way.

Hello Jalynne, I am sure you have some great nurseries there as well :-) But what we do really isn't adapted to zone 9. We are glad you enjoyed the video!

Yes, I found one good nursery www.kuffelcreekapplenursery.com, but they are out of stock for 2018. Anyway, may I ask what grafting knife is Eric using? I am teaching myself how to graft by watching videos. Thanks and keep on posting.

I purchased four Canada Plum trees last fall. They survived the winter, spring and summer well. What I would like to know is how do I prepare them for the second winter. Should I prune off the lower leaves? Should I fertilize them? Should I mound them with wood chips? I have already wrapped them, but did not bury the wrapping as shown on the video. I will do that. My stakes are not as strong or as tall as yours either. I shall correct that problem too.

Hello Irene! You can watch our video on winterizing trees: ua-cam.com/video/rvZDDQ0yH48/v-deo.html
Basically, staking is good to protect against snow breakage. Rodent protection can be done with a protective plastic spiral or with a metal mesh. You can prune all lower branches, either now or early next spring. As for fertilizing, the best is to add compost early next spring at the surface of the soil. Mulching with wood chips or dead leaves is good, make sure you add plenty of compost or composted manure under your mulch though. Hope this helps!
