Pom Poko: One Last Glimpse Into The Past

- The train scene from Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki is quite famous. But there are several other beautiful scenes throughout Studio Ghibli that are not getting enough attention.
In this video I am talking about "one last illusion" scene from Pom Poko, directed by Isao Takahata. As the shape shifting creatures called tanuki find their attempt to protect their home fruitless, they decide to perform one grand illusion, temporarily transforming the city to the beautiful village it once was, in order to remind humans what they have lost.
I think this is one of the scenes which magically transform a movie from "a good movie" to a masterpiece. One such scene would be Wolf scene from Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The scene is elevated perfectly by the soundtrack composed by Hasso Gakudan. I am using the same music in this video as the background.

I agree wholeheartedly the last grand illusion elevated the movie. It was so emotional. The woman running to her mother, calling her name. And then you see other humans run into the illusion as well. Seeing a piece of the past they loved so much.
I cried during that scene. I am really happy you made a video about it.

Takahata was a visionary and a truly sensitive storyteller. Thank you for featuring this scene as well as a couple from Princess Kaguya - another underrated masterpiece.
When they watched the others pass on while celebrating, that's when I broke down crying. They were happy while they left, but they were still leaving...
