GoPro The Remote is the official remote control for GoPro. It is compatible with GoPro 11/10/9/8 + GoPro Max and GoPro Mini.
A remote control lets you wirelessly controrl your GoPro from a distance without physically touching the shutter button. It is extremely helpful whenever the camera is mounted away from you, or out of your reach. With a remote control you can quickly start and stop the recording, check your settings etc but it can come extremely helpful while taking photos, burts or simply to control more than 1 camera.

Does it work if the gopro is underwater?
I want to put my gopro in the water and control it from outside the water on a boat.
Also, I'm a swimmer. I want to have it in pool with a remote on my wrist. Then record underwater to see my swim technique.

Did u have a leak ? I haven’t used mine in the water that much just for stand up paddle boarding but I didn’t dive with it

Depends how mostly u use your camera. The signal is more reliable for sure but if most of your shots are handheld or from a tripod then it’s ok to use mobile. On the other hand if you mount the camera to your equipment like helmet, ski pole, motorbike etc them a remote is crucial to wirelessly start stop the recording without the need to stop the activity. It will give you more ways to capture content like burst photo etc
