      That's crazy man I have an exam over this tomorrow. You're the best. One simple question if I may. Does 'acidic and basic conditions' correlate to 'acidic opening of epoxides' and 'nucleophilic opening of epoxides' as my professor teaches? he does explain that 'nucleophilic' is also a backside SN2 attack.

      @@smalliver365 Yep. "Basic" opening and "Nucleophilic" opening refer to the same thing when it comes to the opening of epoxides. That's why I pointed it out in the video. It's just the "basic" opening is more popular among professors and textbooks since it gives an easy to remember dichotomy.
      And yes, both proceed through the SN2 mechanism with the inversion of stereochemistry when applicable. I prolly should've mentioned that more explicitly in the video.
      Best of luck tomorrow!

    Hi Victor, thanks for another great video! My question is how would you go about opening an epoxide ring if it is symmetrical? Thanks for the help!

    • @VictortheOrganicChemistryTutor
      @VictortheOrganicChemistryTutor  8 місяців тому

      If it is symmetrical, it doesn't matter which side you're going to choose. If you're concerned with the stereochemistry, you'll have a 50/50 split opening from each side giving you a pair of stereoisomers (typically, enantiomers, but might be diastereomers depending on the molecule).

    what software are you using ?

      It’s an app called goodnotes

      Not in this video or the vast majority of my other videos... I've used goodnotes to make a few of my videos, but it's by far the least used app I use for my videos. I use up to 8 different apps/software packages to make my content, and I don't see any point in listing them all. What works for me may or may not work for others.

      @@ammar-c9u I dunno, maybe at some point I'll consider that. But that's not my channel focus, so even if I make a video like that some time in the future, it's not going to be any time soon.
