I know this but I'm saying he said it's a car that he would actually own for himself, assuming he would be in the market to buy a car which he's not but he likes the car and that was my point
Very informative reviewed. wow this remind me of the 2005 RL with unique technology. Dave, I like to see you push this car around corners and let the SH-AWD do the work Acuras are very reliable and low cost to maintain. The information screen will also tell you if there is a problem with the car. I was involved in a crash and it told me the car had a blown fuse and my dtr light was out on the driver side. You can spend hours exploring all the great stuff these cars have to offer, such as valet mode with pin code etc.. I had a 2005 TL and put 250+k miles on it with only scheduled maintenance, and now have the last TSX. Buying Acuras is a smart decision and the V6 is sooo much fun. Lets not forget that Honda offer this technology years ago but just not in the states.
Actual owner/lesee (2014 model) here. Thanks for the great review. My car returns the same mileage as yours overall. It's really very hard to keep your foot off the accelerator because of the instant torque, however. It is definitely a sleeper.
+neuronbob it stinks. The hybrid powertrain disengages at 80mph, how lame. There is a reason it sells so poorly, only a fanboy would buy it at 20k off. There also was no 2015 model. What a disaster of a car based on the last generation Accord, looking like an uglier Accord marginally better than an Accord.
+BenFranklin997 Number of issues with your statement. 1. There was a 2015 SH model in Canada, but not the U.S. The 2014s were released very late in 2014, and the Feds wouldn't let Acura call them 2015s. 2. You misunderstand what happens at 78 mph. It's complicated, so it's understandable. The electric motors controlling the rear wheels reach their maximum speed, 11k rpm, at that speed. What happens is that the computers tell the motors not to assist propulsion or to regenerate power. The motors maintain their ability to remove the torque on one side, and add to the other side, in turns. i.e., they don't add to propulsion, but do maintain the AWD system. It's really a cool (though complicated) system. 3. You are obviously not the market intended for this car. It certainly meets my needs, chief among them a fuel-efficient sedan with lots of room. The tech is pretty incredible when you take the time to understand it. 4. This car is the cheapest you can get this tech. The next cars with this sort of tech that are currently available are the Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari. I don't count the NSX because it's not released yet. 5. The only real disaster is that Acura failed to make a feature set worth the price charged until the 2016 model, and has not been at all marketing either the SH or PAWS. These cars are virtually a secret.
+neuronbob 1. Acura continues to be clueless. 2. It not complicated, its boring. At 80mph, the electric motors disengage. Whats the point? 3. What does that even mean? The tech isn't even new, its old. 4. The GS 450h, 5series hybrid, Panamera E-hybrid etc all offer just as much if not more tech. What are you talking about? This car doesn't exist in a vacuum. 5. The car is a disaster. Its not luxurious. It doesn't have a great ride. It looks like an Accord. Honda obviously doesn't even think its good. The market doesn't either. Its great you enjoy your car but lets not act like the world is missing out. Its not.
@@BenFranklin997 dude you’re so stupid, it’s hard to get through your comments. You’re simply a hater. Who cares if the electric motor shuts off at 80???? It’s not an electric car-it’s a hybrid. Most hybrids shut off battery power at 25mph. Plus, who the hell is speeding past 80mph anyway? It’s rare to get the chance. And it’s not like the car shuts off.. you still have the V6…..
I can't wait until the 2016/2017 NSX for it to come out so you can test that beast!

Looks so much like the touring honda accord.. I own a TL 3.7 V6.. The only thing i dont like in my car is that you feel every bump on the road. long drives are not as comfortable. mpg is good did 28.7 on the highway.
Good review like to see track time vs Mercedes, BMW, Audi. Lexus etc This a unique car in terms of technology, not just the hybrid system but the SHAWD like a formula 1 hybrid Honda is always ahead of other manufacturers S 2000 only street car with 9000 rpm Honda hybrid accord only car with no transmission
Acuras are nice but that dual-screen system is not at all user friendly. Tried to get to know one on a 2015 mdx and it's just not intuitive.. Hope they come out with something better. (Though with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, who cares 😂)
Honda please fire the Acura design team!!!! Great interiors, amazing engineering but a very bland looking exterior. Just look at what Hyundai has done recently.
Hey Dave! Great quality and information of this RLX. I have been watching your videos ever since Alex Le Friec was apart of the program and one thing I enjoyed in your videos of the past were your honest criticisms and/or dislikes of the vehicle. I am sure there are things about every vehicle that you wish could be better. If you haven't already, I am hoping you can include your opinions on what the vehicle can improve on or dislikes of some sort in your future reviews. I find it makes for a more rounded review and would love to hear your opinions. My opinion of this is the back end design looks too mundane and similar to the Chevy Cruze! Regardless, keep up the fantastic work and reviews! Cheers from Calgary AB Canada!
Just to ask on 100% honesty, is it really worth the nearly 70k price tag? Over all it's an Acura.. I'm sure your can get a bit more in another name brand but I just want your honest answer.. Thanks and I enjoy your videos as you get into everything..
I really hope they will remodel the next gen Acuras to be more like the NSX. Also, the UI system looks very similar to the ones on the Hondas, which is understandable since Honda is the parent company of Acura.
Very beautiful car, in terms of the concept of the design of the vehicle. I personally love it. I guess the preference of the general community is based off of its stock look, I would personally add a couple modifications to the vehicle, not over the top, but minor details. A car that I may own one day in a few years. :)
Great review as always Dave, but I would only use the selfie stick for the just arrived videos. Not that I really care, but it just does not look professional, which is a shame since your videos are very informative.
+BenFranklin997 With all due respects Ben, the non-hybrid RLX may be on par with the cars you listed but this Sport Hybrid is in a completely higher league than those vehicles. This is a really special car that is totally underrated. Not many people own them yet but I've read some of the owners' comments in forums and they positively rave about the awesomeness of this vehicle.
+BenFranklin997 You're dreaming if you think those are the cars the RLX competes with. The cars the RLX competes with would be cars like the 5-Series or the E-Class since it is a full-size sedan but the price point matches with midsize German cars.
8 years and 100,000 miles. You can add Acuracare for a max of 9 years and 120,000 miles (only add Acuracare if the 4yr/50,000 basic warranty is still active).
To update, I have a 19 MDX Sport Hybrid (+42,000 miles) and 18 RLX Sport Hybrid (28,000 miles) and it has the exact same maintenance schedule as the mechanical sh-awd Acura vehicles. The EV+I.C.E. components versus I.C.E. sh-awd require no extra servicing other than the exchanging the coolant for the EV DC inverter at 105,000 miles (same coolant as the engine).
There are so many things that doesn't bring it up to the others in it's class. Need twin turbo.... panoramic sunroof.....and a few other options. as so many others have stated, why can't Acura design a better exterior??
This car is way over priced... Why get this when you can get an accord hybrid that gets 50 MPG combined.... I have a 2016 accord touring after test driving BMW, MZB, Audi, Lexus... I may not have a few creature comforts.. I'm super pleased ! Plus I paid 34,700 out the door...
Accord doesn't have SH-AWD, the Accord doesn't have 377hp. Then there is a lot of features this has that the Accord doesn't. That's why. Totally not the same to say, oh I'll get an Accord. This cost more for a reason, and when you drive an Accord vs this, you'll see why...
I really wish Acura and Honda would get their exterior design game together. Fantastic technology and fuel efficiency, but the looks are either sadly boring or challenging/polarizing (I'm looking at you Civic and Type R). They (Acura) should have a renaissance and evolve like Volvo has. Instead, they're the luxury brand that everyone has to make compromises for.
Not knocking you Dave, you're the man! Just seems that 6-8 months ago a lot of your videos were in the 15-30k range and the newer ones are around 5-10. Maybe people just love those sweet off-roading vids :)
I don't see why. Compared to the other cars in its class the only car that matches the luxury of this car is the Hyundai Equus. I have test driven other cars in this class from BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Cadillac and Audi and none of them have what this car has. the only thing they could do to improve this car is make it so the dual screen system is more user friendly and to make it so that when using the tech you don't have to be looking at the lower monitor and using the touch screen because it makes you take your eyes off of the road.
Everyman Driver Here in New York all I see are Tsx's and Tl's/Tlx's. For Acura's sedan lineup the Rl's and Rlx's are extremely rare here even though you will see an old RL on the road more than you will see the new RLX's. Beautiful cars but people here go for the competitors.
IVE SEEN 3 in Brooklyn around my house .. but yeah the most i see is the tlx/mdx.. but ironically whats getting more popular is the previous gen rl.. been seeing alot of those lately since it has a lot of tech/luxury and it has shawd. if i wasnt so addicted to coupes i would scoop one of those.. or any of the new line up.. for now im sticking with my acura cl.. till i buy my accord v6
aoescool Im in Brooklyn as well. I see the old Rl's more than the new ones, the new ones are rare. I was looking into an 07-10 RL but it wont be good for a daily driver, 15 city is pretty low with 22 highway.
This car is so underrated. If I could afford it it'd be in my driveway.
ldawson103 u can afford it now
Wtf. A car that fast getting that kinda mpg is nuts.
That’s the Honda way
I like your honest opinion in owning it for yourself, shows how much you really like it
I know this but I'm saying he said it's a car that he would actually own for himself, assuming he would be in the market to buy a car which he's not but he likes the car and that was my point
Now this is what a flagship luxury car is supposed to be!

a cool feature the RL and RLX have is if u left you're key in the trunk it will beep and pop open
Acura's previous "RL" and current "RLX" really make me miss the handsome "Legend" from the early '90s.
2005 acura rl owner here.... The 2008 was going to be next ride... But this... This will be it! Once I run my 05 to the ground...
I would take that over the 7 series bmw you just reviewed

I'll certainly take this over any of the big german lux sedans..I like to keep my dealer visits will be kept to a minimum!!
