These have been out for quite a while I'm a bit surprised a video is coming out now.. I have always wanted one of these however I found the Princeton was a better fit. Not as loud however I live in an apartment and I can barely get away with my Princeton luckily my neighbor also plays guitar so that helps. But I can't help but feel that these would benefit from an onboard attenuator. I really don't know why nobody seems to put attenuation in their tube amps. I understand the whole purists thing but times are moving forward gigs are getting quieter there's no reason to have even a 40 watt amplifier cranked. If I were to assume I guess would be that for some reason only digital amplifiers get built in attenuation some of the time whereas with tube amps maybe it's just too difficult? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's due to the electronics?
Probably because attenuators can be had on the used market fairly cheap and with a range of features and tones to be had it would feel more like a cheap addition rather than a viable feature. Same reason new tube amps don’t come with a bunch of effects built in.
@@XneverstopfightingX I see your point however it's my understanding that you don't want to just buy the cheapest attenuator on the market because it can literally blow your amp up You need a quality attenuator and those I think are anywhere in the sub 600 range and for most people myself included that's pretty expensive. I do a lot of reading and I have considered getting an attenuator even for my Princeton and the one thing that people echo is to not cheap out because it can risk your gear.
It’s just Fender that can’t seem to figure out the market wants built in attenuators. Lots of other amp companies have them built in and if you need a Fender type sound there are boutique amps that have Fender-style circuits with power scaling or attenuators.
@@TheBenb1999 That's part of the problem the boutique I am not a fan of that market at all more so than the mass produced market. I'm sorry but just because something is handmade doesn't mean it costs 80% more some of these boutique amplifiers and guitars cost the payments of a house. I want built-in attenuation on tube amps but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg and a kidney either.
I love the tones I get with my hrdx on both clean and drive channels but the only thing I cannot stand is the rattling, I've already tightened all the screws and removed the reverb tank and I cannot get rid of it, also had to replace the capacitors after nearly 3 years since they went bad an my amp stared to sound like a ring modulator
What’s the difference between this and the Hot Rod DeVille? When I would try out a guitar at Norman’s Rare Guitars in the valley, Mark would always put it through a Hot Rod DeVille.
I have a Hot Rod amp but it is heavy and it must be very loud to sound good. I am going to share something surprising. I have a zoom pedal and a 100 watt solid state fender bass amo. I actually think that the solid state amp sounds better unless you can crank the hot rod up to 9. How many places can you do that? The 100 watt ss fender weighs only 20 pounds. I roll off the very low bass control. With the zoom all my guitars, fender and gibson clone sound dreamy at nearly any volume. I think that the sealed cabinet enhances the body of the sound. Try it. You will be amazed.
does this amp make a loud buzzing noise when its on distortion like the previous ones ? because i was in guitar center and i tested out this amp , i was on master volume of 9 and there were no humming or buzzing at all so im just confused
I had this experience, as well. I tightened all the screws, replaced seals, etc. Turns out, in my case, that it wasn't the amp rattling. It was my room. Specifically, the items on my TV stand and shelves. Make sure you park the amp on carpet, and be mindful of any game cases, game systems, or other items that might be loose on your furniture and shelving. This thing moves a LOT of sound. Even at lower volume, I had stuff rattling. I secured all that stuff, and the rattling stopped. More importantly, I had peace of mind that my amp was fine. Good luck. I hope this helps you.
also still using a USA HRD from the 90s... I put a Jensen p12q speaker in it, now I have to crank it to get the sweet spot, which is soooo much sweeter with this speaker! Best decision ever for this amp... I took the 12ay7 back out so I can still have maximum gain on tap when I want it, and in this video they give a great hint to tame the amp some- back off the EQ... I keep the bass and treble all the way down, mids all the way up, and use the prenence as my only variable tone knob... however I play with a loud drummer, another guitarist, and a bass player... I play lead, and that amp cannot be beaten for versatility and beautiful tone, or gnarly grit when you want it! I agree, great gigging amp!
Just picked one up, love the clean tones even at low volume. My only issue is that on the drive channel (even more drive) it sounds really clean, and nothing like the great tone in the video. I’ve tried cranking the drive and volume up but it stays pretty clean… is there something I’m missing perhaps? Wondering if the amp needs to be on and being played through for a certain amount of time before the drive gets good. Any tips are appreciated!
@Far Stox I'm not sure if this makes sense at all, but as I've had the amp longer and continued to play through it the drive has cranked up. Seems like I just hadn't ever let the tubes get rolling hard enough yet, but it sounds great now.
Interesting. I see here master and volume at around 4. When I put mine at around 2 and a half it blows my ears off…how is it possible? Great amp but really hard to regulate volume
I just bought a used version 4 the overall volume is not near as loud as my USA model. Don't know if there's something wrong with the amp or this new model is just quieter.
@@klapaucjusz1 good point, and the EQ might need some tweeking, plus the bias on the power tubes may be a different level... tried swapping the tubes back and forth between amps? like, all 5 tubes at once? I have the USA Hot Rod Deluxe and there is no way to adjust the bias, so sometimes power tube pair swapping makes a very noticeable difference! Treble and Presence may need to be boosted on the newer ones to compensate for different types of pots, perhaps.... so many factors lol
I really wish they would do a 6v6 version of this with the headroom of a Deluxe Reverb. Just to difficult to get a Fender 40 watt Amp into the sweet spot in a club.
They say the listen to their customers but still dont have a small head version of this? Yeah I know there is the bassbreaker 15, but its a completely different thing.
how loud is this amp? i'm new to the tube world and I'd love to buy one, but i live in a flat.. is it possible to turn the vol down to the bedroom level or is it stage loud only? thank's for the answers!
This amp is not for the bedroom. It is seriously loud and has no headphone jack in case you wanted to go that route. I love this amp and would consider getting one but it is just too loud. Past versions were really touchy on the volume but supposedly has improved.
@@alwaysrockn2009 could you recommend me a different one? I'm searching for one with nice full clean tone that takes pedals well. And you know, bed room-small stage loudness.
Bartek Mateja that’s a hard one. If you want the same sound the Blues jr does a good job and is 15 watt instead of 40 but it still does not have a headphone jack nor an effects loop. I am in the same dilemma. Need a nice clean amp but with an effects loop and a headphone jack. I’ve been looking more at a used Blackstar Artist 15 which has a very nice clean and has the options I’ve been looking for. Used prices are about the same for each. I will probably end up with either the Artist and perhaps the HT20 by Blackstar.
I would say Players Series Telecaster by the looks of it. The Stratocaster maybe the Professional Series though it also could be a Players series as that color appears in the Players Series range.
What wood are made the guitar, what was the height of the pickups, on what pickup where you playin', what effects did you use, what microphone and at what angle and placement, post recording software, playin with fingers or plectre?
& What voltage was the power supply? what are the cap values and are there any diodes in the preamp circuitry? What gauge of strings? And was the speaker broken in or brand new? lol
looks like the american professional series. not sure, but the finish looks like sonic gray and I believe it's only available in this series. not sure but probably.
So I guess no HRD V around the corner... The amp already has cleans nailed. Please focus on drive side tone for channel switchers. Even a dedicated drive channel high cut control would be helpful. Or perhaps a drive channel mini graphic EQ.
They sound great but not as great as the Princeton reverbs especially the 65 or the 65 deluxe. For the price, the hot rods are great, but why not save up a little more of a better all around amp?

having used a vintage original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A for 10 years, I can tell these new amps don't have a tube rectifier ? while they do simulate the natural distortion somewhat, there is still the underlying tone of a sterile solid state rectifier, rather than the more musical, ringing tones of a tube rectifier. solid state rectifier makes the sound more linear. when someone says "takes pedals well" that tells me it NEEDS PEDALS. i.e. scooped mid frequencies. whereas the original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A didn't need pedals other than a wahwah, and original tremolo foot switch button. When I'd put distortion or phase on the Tremolux, it would sound muddy, and take away from the oem vintage sound tone. the original pleasing musical distortion was in the circuit itself, the caps used, transformers, and volume knob.
It would be great if you updated the circuit instead of the cosmetics. Fender, you know the inherent problems of the zenner diodes right on the board, the big cement resistors against the board and other things that burn up and ruin the traces. Just put the right parts in and elevate them off the board from the factory. It's not that difficult. And please put reliable filter caps in instead of those junk cheap IC brand caps that notoriously fail. Make this amp great from the factory so we actually get what we're paying for.

They need a house mode where a volume knob adjusts between 0 and 2. Also better caps.
Deville is 60 watts and has two 12 inch speakers while deluxe is 40 watts and has one 12 inch speaker
@@PSNakinmericPSN OR 60 watts and 4 10'' speakers - depends of the DeVille model.
Is there any difference between this amp and it’s tweed counterpart circuit wise?
Eugene edwards babyyy
Plus you have a DI out on that amp which is something modern tube amps need to actually “be modern” right?
This amp is better than the Deluxe 3, great for funk
I think the newer speaker is more ideal for that crisp top end for great funk rhythms!
Make this into a head and also make the gt amps in a head please!
I 🖤 my Hot Rod Deluxe!
does this amp make a loud buzzing noise when its on distortion like the previous ones ?
because i was in guitar center and i tested out this amp , i was on master volume of 9 and there were no humming or buzzing at all so im just confused
My amp buzzes when clean, it's an old amp though and only when I hit a low chord
What are the overdrive settings you are using at the end solo?
I have an original one, it’s f’ing loud .. great gigging amp.
Me too. Got it 20 years ago, in tweed, with a cover. Still my main amp.
also still using a USA HRD from the 90s...
@Joe Paul And all they had to do was adjust the volume taper a bit. The V1 option is cool though
There should be tons of drive if your cranking the drive knob
Bad tube(s)
@Far Stox I'm not sure if this makes sense at all, but as I've had the amp longer and continued to play through it the drive has cranked up. Seems like I just hadn't ever let the tubes get rolling hard enough yet, but it sounds great now.
Interesting. I see here master and volume at around 4. When I put mine at around 2 and a half it blows my ears off…how is it possible? Great amp but really hard to regulate volume
Use an attenuator in the effects loop to control volume
Dear Fender, Please let me know the Teli color and model. Thanks in advance for your support. Happy Holidays!!
So did they fix the volume taper in this model??
I just bought a used version 4 the overall volume is not near as loud as my USA model. Don't know if there's something wrong with the amp or this new model is just quieter.
Maybe the new A-Type speaker, which comes in the IV, is less efficient?
Tell us again how pine cabinets resonate better as they age
I couldn't stop laughing when they said that. Biggest load of bs I have ever heard.
All wood does. Pine especially.
That was BS really.
which guitars ( model ) are you playing.
They say the listen to their customers but still dont have a small head version of this? Yeah I know there is the bassbreaker 15, but its a completely different thing.
Thank God they fixed the volume pot on this amp because I couldn't find the volume pot on my guitar.
Do one for the blues deluxe!
Do they still hiss at really low volumes like the old ones? I like my amps dead silent. The blues JR and blues deluxe are silent.
It depends on the guitar if u want silent don’t use single coil
Brilliant jam at the end
is it still a tube amplifier??
Only the clean channel
how loud is this amp? i'm new to the tube world and I'd love to buy one, but i live in a flat.. is it possible to turn the vol down to the bedroom level or is it stage loud only? thank's for the answers!
Bartek Mateja dude! This is an extremely loud amp. I doubt you will be able to keep it at a low and squirt volume for your flat.
@@alwaysrockn2009 sad.. I guess I have to keep searching
I actually like the drive channel on my HRD III better than the drive channel on the HRD IV in this demo.
I've had a III since last year. Great amp and it's now my daily player. I run a Helix 4CM with it and it's a pretty amazing combination
Love the sound! What model of guitars were being used here?
Clearly Squier bullet.
clearly.
Clearly...
I would say Players Series Telecaster by the looks of it. The Stratocaster maybe the Professional Series though it also could be a Players series as that color appears in the Players Series range.
The Telecaster is from the Fender American Professional series and the Strat is a recently released Fender Vintera 50's Modified (Made in Mexico).
The tele is an American professional, I picked one up a couple of weeks ago in that exact colour it’s sonic grey.
And was the speaker broken in or brand new? lol
I’ve got a little mustang v 2 . It sounds awesome for a small amp
Phillip Pitts Is that the one that can simulate sounds or am I thinking of something else?
Best thing I heard in this video was those Fender pedals. Dang.
Does anyone know what model of Tele Eugene is playing?
looks like the american professional series. not sure, but the finish looks like sonic gray and I believe it's only available in this series. not sure but probably.
So I guess no HRD V around the corner... The amp already has cleans nailed. Please focus on drive side tone for channel switchers. Even a dedicated drive channel high cut control would be helpful. Or perhaps a drive channel mini graphic EQ.
Like the micro terror from orange. The idea of it. Don’t make the same thing. Just something easy to pack up carry and plug in
I’d like to hear it with humbuckers.
They sound great but not as great as the Princeton reverbs especially the 65 or the 65 deluxe. For the price, the hot rods are great, but why not save up a little more of a better all around amp?
Versatility, and power.
I need one!
i wish i had that guitar ... please send me one
No... I need that guitar lol
james crowe no as a matter of fact i am a 15 year old conservative raised by in a Christian household, and I know about earning things for myself, I spent 5 years mowing lawns so I could by a classic car, and now I have one and the satisfaction I get from it is waaaaaay more than if I just got it for free, but anyways it’s just a joke dude, chill
james crowe Bro this was a joke, I have the guitars I need and I’m thankful for them, you apparently have no sense of humor I guess.

When would a person choose the Hot Rod Deluxe and when the Tone Master?
Jim Hoeppner FX loop, smaller, far better pedal platform, cheaper to name a few.
tone master does not have the rel sound..but exceleent for playing out
I ended up getting the Blues Deluxe Reissue!
Nice work and sound :))

having used a vintage original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A for 10 years, I can tell these new amps don't have a tube rectifier ?
while they do simulate the natural distortion somewhat, there is still the underlying tone of a sterile solid state rectifier, rather than the more musical, ringing tones of a tube rectifier. solid state rectifier makes the sound more linear.
when someone says "takes pedals well" that tells me it NEEDS PEDALS. i.e. scooped mid frequencies. whereas the original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A didn't need pedals other than a wahwah, and original tremolo foot switch button. When I'd put distortion or phase on the Tremolux, it would sound muddy, and take away from the oem vintage sound tone. the original pleasing musical distortion was in the circuit itself, the caps used, transformers, and volume knob.
Hard to argue with that.

10? How are they not dead?

So, real amp sound
Finalmente tiraram o cromado do painel...
If you like listening to the customer put in a built in attenuator for home use !!
The volume is forcing people to look elsewhere !!
It’s a gigging amp, not bedroom.. could be great a feature though..
Hands up who uses the drive channel then? I'll wait.
saw this used for 500 in a shop nice amp killed the terrible Toastmaster garbage for 900!!
I just bought a Fender tone master twin I am so bummed out they sound terrible I paid a grand and it's going back the day after New year's I just bought a version 4 Deluxe used for $450 bucks and I like it better then the tone master I think I am going to buy a DeVille next.
@@patrickromero5365 smart man! these tmasters are so overrated and hyped...I played the twin tonemaster last week vs a regular princeton and delux reverb.--both tube....KILLED The tonemasters NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE SOUND THE FEEL OF A REAL TUBE AMP
Sugar Life I have to agree with you mine is going back after New year's I love my used Deluxe IV I had it with these modeling amps I also bought a Boss Katana and the same thing I could not get a good clean tone the distortion channels we're not bad but the clean channel was like the tone master thin sounding I still love Fender amps but I am going back to my tube amps again ☮️ Peace.
@@patrickromero5365 yeah agreed.. I had the Katana 100 and could not get a pristine clean tone Im currently shopping for a Carr rambler..Fender deluxe reverb 64 custom or maybe a tone king...I know alot of guys who, like you tried the modelers and sold em all...very disappointing especially when a player starts getting good and develops ears to know the difference!
Happy new year from nyc!
@@sugarlife485 Sure mate, thats why so many good players i know say it sounds amazing, i have the tm deluxe reverb and it is.
Put some dirt in there, that's the amp is made for!
I have one of these amps. It sounds pretty great -- even the drive channel sounds good, for what it is. BUT, using the effects loop (as you would want to with the drive channel) adds unacceptable noise. Fender, fix that in the HRD V! But enough about the amp, let's talk about Rick's hairline: Incredible for a guy his age! He's one of the rare lucky ones, for sure.
cant believe he cut his hair!
"if a 6, turned out to be 9, I don't mind, I don't mind"
Hey there, I'm not that old! I did start to go gray early but nonetheless, I appreciate your hairline compliments. ;)
Nice cut,Rick.
"yeah, but this one goes to 12"
I feel like I should be watching this vid on my TV at 3AM.....like it's a set of swords....
Waaay too much talking
I was going to buy this amp till I heard how horrible the distortion sounds in it. Yeah, I know you can use pedals but you can do that with any amp with clean setting.
mine goes up to 13
To continental aquatics. Yes it is

You know who demos Fenders better than Fender? Almost anyone. Ironic since they could use CBS production.
A great and maybe the best sounding Fender Amp, but things like tubesockets and pots soldered to the PCB: no Way. So i won't buy one. It will not last long.... A handwired or maybe parthandwired Version would be the best ...
