Phwoarrrrrr cracking vid! Good to see what you boys got upto after i got shafted 🤣
Quick question, where did you get the "Phwoarrr" thing from because it cracks me up every time😂
@@KeeganVanStroelong story 🤣
@Unclepooly RIP TAILSHAFTS, here for a good time not a long time!!
Bit of a twist to the story 😂
Keep it Tyler Thompson spec not explore life 36:30
Dont buy a new shaft, go to a driveshaft specialist and get the tube section replaced with a thicker tube, rebalanced and then you wont get dings and twist a shaft. I think I went to a 3or 4mm tube, when I did mine on my 80s, nothing is unbreakable, but the Toyota factory are like 1mm thin and as you said a ding will weaken the shaft.
Suggestion I tell everyone is measure your stock shafts, a good shop should know, but with older models mainly of others, its important if getting rebuilt! (correct length) ATs are different to MT trans shafts for example.
I can lay mine on rocks no problems.
Of course if you drive like that, you will break something else, ya have to know when to hold em and when to fold em take a different line, big power takes big responsibility if ya don't want to keep breaking stuff, its not the car its the driver! But minor upgrades when ya do, helps.
Same thing as we all ya upgrade control arms drive arms (Drag/Tie rods etc) load goes somewhere else, so its a process!
But even then, best process learn to control the right foot! No matter the truck, (ask Tyler why he's had 3 engines)😜
I prefer a mix of camping, family touring, bloke trips, builds and a bit of hard core wheeling.
💯🇳🇿
Time to through the junk e lockers in the bin
Best thing I ever did was replace them for airlockers
You got either bad connections that power the relays or switches or bad earthing.
E lockers themselves dont fail.
Its a installation issue.
Ran airleakers for years and had nothing but troubles with the o rings sealing in the 3rd member.
Ran e lockers after that never had an issue.
To be honest I've had all issues with them.
- Originally I had wiring issues which were half installer fault and half the average quality wiring loom that comes with them.
- We got on top of all the wiring then the internals failed, sent both back to Harrop and got them re built and fixed by them.
- So freshly wired and freshly built lockers by Harrop and now having dramas with them again, probably wiring issues im guessing this time but either way I'm just over it and I don't believe they are a great locker for hard wheeling. The roll back disengagement causes too many issues and they often don't re engage again instantly and take multiple wheel revelations to go at which point you're off line. All my mates who do hard wheeling run air lockers, 99% of winch truck drivers run air lockers. They are the superior locker/a better instant & stronger engagement for hard wheeling.
might want to look and see if you can get a locker with the external motor driven locking ring. these dont have the roll back issue. and much easier to make a fix track side with wiring compared to air. strength wise well, yea air is stronger but unless your running 40's, it wouldnt matter 😅
Better with less music I like hearing the cars
3 things I took from this video.
1. Elockers no go.
2. 79 Tailshaft no go.
3. Goodyear Boulders no go.
lol
No good. In the bin
1 & 2 yes. 3 - any tyre is going to look bad next to TREPS haha, they are in a league of their own but can't really use them on road.
Should have brought a patrol.....Not kidding!
I love Land Cruiser guys slowly realising their driveline is dog’s breakfast and it’s easier to just fix the only flaw in a patrol (the motor)
Dmax seems the go 😂
over s coil swapped 79 !!! yeah nah. i love my gu but cmon man the reality is theyre runner up to landcruisers set up like that thing
@@chrisbeerad8835 “if you buy a cruiser and change everything about it then it’s good” that’s like saying ford fiesta is a fast car because they compete in rally… that’s not the same car anymore
Great video 👍. Only thing I would add to the wish list is Timmyhasheart with his mighty GQ.
Another great ep Tyler, I can see what you were saying about the e-lockers for sure for that tougher wheeling
Uncle Pooly needs to pop in the #GJDRIVELINES for a big banger shaft!
Is this Tyler Thomson or 4wd 24-7 car wreckers?
This type of driving is akin to top fuel drag racing. Everything is gunna break at this level. Regardless of how much money/ what brand etc. cool video
Ol mate' Tyler's vocabulary with the American lingo " at this point" being added. With from the get go and I'm not going to lie. To be added shortly 😂
The way the suspension flexes on that DMax has to be some ASMR right?
Love it mate 👌 👍 a mixture of what you are producing on your channel is great you are the favourite 4x4 guy go forth and conquer 😂
Thanks 👍
Ripper video Tyler! Really enjoyed it, can’t wait for the next one 🍻
Thanks mate, another trip soon!
How are all these boys getting away with 37s in vic? Or are they just rawdogging it and hoping for the best.
probably 2nd engineered so legal Aust wide.
I’d guess there using Devine intervention until they get wheeled by the po po
They use on and offroad sets. Well pooly says he does
@@vxclubnewI mean you say that like vic pol still won't finger fuck you up the bush if you're running tyres like this lol
Fairly sure they all just running there luck
That D MAX is insane
-No to the music in vids like this one!
Thing is re capability, mate you are carrying allot of weight in that vehicle and also some up high! you have the rear to back on your front seats full of shit, allot of gear for one person, even 2! Touring yeah I get it, but do you use all that stuff really!
That's why stuff breaks and why you aren't as capable as you should be, all that weight is also over the back, the Dmax weight is center forward. There is allot of reasons for capability not brand or type, its setup and then driver knowing how to use it, one thing Jono said was let the vehicle go where it wants to, dont force it with all out power to fit a square peg in a round hole.
37" and Treps, mate its not a comparison! Jono well summarized at the end was about to ask about what trans he had. sick build, nothing wrong with taking the best from other trucks eg Toyota and Nissan, everything has its strengths and weaknesses!
Good episode mate🤘
Nice work boys. Any videos of the Dmax build… that is super clean.
Phwoarrrrrrrr Tyler great episode guys it's a pity Uncle Pooly threw a tail shaft he's cool have to do another video with him and Burto now that would be awesome cheers legends 😄
Check out Tom Woods shafts from USA not badly priced deliver to Aus, do a double cardon too. Had a strong one in front of my Land Rover
Nice colab mate 👍Should keep the crew that say you keep doing the same things quiet eh😁
Soooo…….nek minnit …..ala D/Max on 40’s Tyler style?
Gday, definitely on a mission there mate, bloody keen to see part 2, things look pretty wild, awesome episode as always, cheers
I live in Woodend and love going out there and the wombat
My ideal setup would be 35x12.50r17 YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR G017 AT XD and 37x13.50r17(same width as Burdo's 35x12.50r15 MAXXIS RAZR MT)YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR G005 X-MT. But for one set of tyres, Kumho Road Venture MT71(not KL71) in 37x12.50r17.
why go 17 , you want the sidewall to flex in the rocks , or are you wanting to race high speeds like the winch truck guys , id go 15 inch rims for wheeling if i could ,
I just dont get 2 snorkels 😂😂
Maybe it time to get rid of the e-locker and get a set of either TJM Pro Lockers or just some ARB lockers like Timmy.
Apparently pro lockers have been discontinued.
@@gus1332 Really? I went onto TJM 2 months ago and saw the pro lockers still for sale.
Jeez that Dmax soots. What a rig.
The way Johno talks about the landscape and how to feel the car instead of driving the car 🙌 PWAAAHHH
What do you think the cracking noise is in your car ? You said you think it's your transfere case. Mine is starting to do the same. Mine is definitely not in the front axle as I've dismantled and found no fault found. Happy to hear some feedback. By the way definitely don't change anything you do on your channel it's a happy mix. 😊 thanks
Thats burto locked in tool box ready for an repair
Locker engagement ring
Yeah 100% stretched transfer case chain, have diagnosed and fixed it since this episode
Dude this is definitely the content I prefere.
Tourer vs purpose built rigs, it was always going to be hard work for you.
Solid effort, great content love it.
Ps just get air lockers mate 👍
Yep time to throw those E lockers in the bin a set of ARB air lockers FTW, wont know yourself 👍👍
Watching this definitely not going E lockers 😂😂.
Just a bad with air lockers
@@deanwilliams6680 Not really. Ive seen many folks use air lockers and have no issue with them what so ever
Barra 45 sounds mint 👍👍 looks very technical tracks to drive ..
Your rigs got the bones and muscle but missing the tendons to pull it together. Lockers and tyre size where the weakness on this trip.
I think pooly should get Get sponsored but some who makes tail shafs and make sure they are heary duty
we didnt start the fire, the best song, but do you understand it? the evil world we born into which we need to change

Gotta get the gq some 37s one of these days😤
Yay! Arb lockers finally!!
Good add for harrop lockers 😂😂😂
This is one of the best ones mate! Theses colabs are super interesting. It's awesome to see the GQ measure against other very capable rigs. Loved it👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video Tyler. 👌 I think you had good mix of everything in it with the editing. Funny and good stuff. 👏👏👏
I appreciate it!
Another great episode Tyler. I don’t want you to change a thing. You have the best content - a mix of everything. Super entertaining and better than the rest mate.
I appreciate that!
TJM Airlocker, you cant beat them!
What about the Prolocker?
Great vid for Million-dollar, purpose built 4wd's :-)
Where’s the million dollars? 😂😂
@@mrbadbaker1 ya get my meaning....
Great Vid featuring some really unusual builds. These tracks are far beyond the capability of my car...and of my driving ability, but good to see them get a bit of Tyler taming.
Perhaps you could try a voltage increaser [i have a 12v to 13.8v that i bought for a travel buddy] to increase the pull in pressure on the lockers?
I could sworn that landcruiser rear lhs wheel was spinning on the rim at the bottom of Acorns
Some serious car breaking wheeling......
Thanks for the share 🤙👍
37inch treps, coil overs, big lift, working lockers, light, no rear quarters… all these add up to making that dmax super capable.
The patrol is a bigger car in all too, both are sick rigs.
Good driving by all you guys.
Tough tracks, Johno's unit makes it looks easy, all up you all did well, sorry about Uncle Pooly's rig. See the boys next time. Bill Mc
Good to see all videos. Touring/ family trips to hard wheeling. Patrol dose it all. Keep up the good work. You set yourself aside from different UA-camrs. In a great way!
Definitely 37s territory by the looks.
Maybe check your wiring on the elockers. It's never the elockers, it's always a poor wiring job.
Love your normal videos TT
Love Johno , Unlce Pooly, and friends but we seen too much rock crawling to send us to sleep, keep doing what you do best 😊
Very good video, no loud music, not to much talking, greetings from austria!
I've never owned anything that is in that league for tough wheeling. When I had a car I would pass by tracks and wanted to know were it goes. Then I got an old basic 4x4 and found out but then I would pass many tougher tracks and wonder were they go...😂. I think that's how it all starts for most, that curiosity of being able to go were most can't, then down the rabbit hole you go into big dollar territory building a vehicle to do those tracks just to kill that curiosity to were those tracks go that you always wondered about....great episode I like collab vidz with other creators that I'm also subbed too.
great episode. just what i needed after waddin myself up in the dirt bike. your drivings improved a lot . No disgrace in some comp spec obsticles. if those lockers are getting 12v to the diff then the magnets failing or the wire is compromised. the tabs on the lock.plate that uses carrier bearing bolts can break at the weld. check mad matts off road for details on the fix before spendin money mate
Oh man its a shame pooly wasnt there!!! But cuppla sick rigs. Good episode boys
keep it exactly this style of filming i reckon, love where you're able to just hear the cars perform!!
30:47 I learnt and my wallet learnt very quickly early on…
“Don’t let ambition get in the way of Ability”
Its good to see and hear some action like this aswell as your normal trips with some shed time with Burto thrown in aswell.
Loose chain in transfer case Tyler have seen it before. Heavy to change on ground.
Did I just see another Nissan rescue a Toyota again??
Full send or use the Maxtrax on your roof?? Good way to wreck the tracks dude.
Or don’t lane the tail shaft on a massive rock 😂ahah
Aah well, goes to show you're only as good as the blokes you wheel with😂😂
Patrol strongest drivetrain bar none
Tell me you've never ventured past jap cars without saying you've never ventured past jap cars.
Air lockers aren't exactly reliable either
Atleast you can tell when they aren't working
Cobaws strike again its not a cobaw trip with out broken cars
Time for some TJM Prolockers.
Come on hit the like button, good stuff
More raw 4x4 driving!
that Dmax is wicked
Awesome video
Hi Tyler - I really enjoy your work and each episode every Sunday. For me it's a good balance, not everyone is going to go out on hard core tracks each week, but you manage to do some touring with the family and spend time with your Dad. In the real world things go wrong and Burto's mechanical knowledge explaining how he works out what is wrong and how fixes things make it interesting. The collaboration with other content creators also keeps it interesting. keep up the good work !!!
Appreciate the feedback mate!
You ask what sort of content we want, well I hope you just keep doing what you're doing. This channel is perfect as it is, with a nice mix of content across all aspects of 4X4 wheeling.
I appreciate that!
Yes the Dmax is mad but if you had the treps you would be following him, they make that much difference. yours weighs quite a lot more as well tho. Cheers nice work
Yeah TREPS are ridiculous haha
Wealies in first again, boredom broken by Tyler
Definitely prefer the less music, as I feel it's a bit much, especially at 7 am. Also prefer the boys outings. Come to all these 4x4 channels because they are the boys' to get away from the handbrake as roothy would say' couple girl run 4x4 channels out there for anyone wanting. Don't think they have a very big following though.
Thanks for a awesome episode mate!
Thanks for watching!
No lack of power for any of the vehicles. Lack of clearance is a problem on 35" tyres. So what made the Dmax so good? besides clearance and the solid axels could weight have something to do with it? There is no doubt that Dmax is something special!
Lighter and more traction with treps on
Yeah TREPS and much lighter car are big ones
You should build a weekend warrior comp truck car or use the gq and chop it and give it the works, itd be cool to have a bit of comp truck, hard wheeling, touring and build videos. It’d be cool to see you build a zook where you try do most of it in house yourself with the help of the pros
Would be cool!
@@TylerThompson90 Do NOT chop the GQ, just get like a older extra cab Gu with a TD42, build a comp tray and turn it into a comp truck and if the motor blows up, SILVER TOP!
SHOULD OF BROUGHT A JEEP…and then you could go places….
You can go to all sorts of mechanic shops with a Jeep 😉
@@TylerThompson90 True but then you get big TD PWAOORWAA.
that was totally cavalier humping that rock this way. his tires could have been more deflated too
8 PSI so pretty low
@@TylerThompson90 must have some strong plies then, cause it did look as if it was hugging the rock
Can confirm that noise is the transfer case
Sick crew, Shame about pooly. Good move on the lockers, You’ve had nothing but dramas with them.
Your worst video yet usually enjoy your content but not for me
100 % less music...loved the action awesome content... Dmax an amazing performing 4x4 looks sic....So looks like the patrols going.. ,🤣
Thanks 👍
When they close these places down and we can no longer go there to enjoy its beauty, think back to videos like this and you will find out why its all shut.
??
how else would you like them to drive they wouldn't make it up the first 10 metres if they drove carefully
As long as there are some tracks like this, the more sedate tracks don't need to get wrecked.
