Originally scored for symphony orchestra, this suite is notable for the addition of saxophone, accordion and guitar. The appealing second waltz is in a light classical style and is wonderfully adapted for young concert bands in this arrangement by James Curnow.

Of all of the music I played in band somehow this simple, repetitive piece stands out. Years later I can still hum it from memory and it gets it stuck in my head from time to time. What a great piece of music that was a joy to play

lol the person that was playing that solo wasnt playimg loud enough so they made me do it with him, a euphonium
I’m a trombone player, but I honestly wish it wasn’t a trombone solo. I wish it were a Euphonium solo. Trombones are generally too sloppy.

This piece is interesting because even in the original form it is very simple the only change I could really spot was the second tenor saxophone being replaced with the second alto and some of the alto saxophone parts moved down an octave

Ok so hear me out... I'm in 9th grade band, about a third of the class is in it for a "free" credit (they underestimated the difficulty of learning an instrument), but there's a couple people who'd do this. I might try and pick up scraps of the kids who would want to do this. No idea if this'll work as a 9th grader with very little experience on the alto sax but it just sounds so good. I'm gonna' propose the idea as a joke and see where it lands...
We should see saxophone parts in more orchestral arrangements than we do.

El Jefe the 3/4 measures are written in pairings, so it could feel like cut time if the two beats were triplets
There's really no such time as 3 anyway. There's only 1. What's important is how that 1 get's subdivided.

I love the euphonium part but why is it so high. downbeats and having Melody and off beats are ok but it’s just that the euphonium had so many parts just too much

The name is wrong. This is music written by Shostakovich for the film "the First echelon". Unfortunately this error is widespread on the Internet.
Yuzh No, it's correct. The original was indeed a musical piece for that movie but then Shostakovich reworked the piece and orchestration to be included in the Suite for Variety Orchestra. What is a very common mistake is that this is titled as a part of Jazz Suite no. 2 which is an entirely different piece. Blame the wrong credits given by the hit Stanley Kubrick movie "Eyes Wide Shut" for that.
