I remember reading a sports illustrated article on this movie. The writer was on a plane and this movie was playing. He saw another man crying and the man saw him crying. They both acknowledged it. It is one of those movies that gets a pass on the man tears. lol. We all see ourselves as underdogs in something in our lives. "Since 1975 no other Notre Dame player has been carried off the field...."
That was true when this movie came out in 1993, but in 1995 the Notre Dame football team carried another player off the field - fullback Marc Edwards who ran for 82 yards and had 3 touchdowns in a game against USC. Marc Edwards went on to play for various teams in the NFL and was a member of the New England Patriots when they won the Super Bowl in 2002.

My favorite thing about this movie is that, you know the game at the end? My mom and dad were at that game. My dad was one semester away from completing his MBA (Master's in Business Administration) and my mom worked in the bookstore. My dad, may he rest in peace, was absolutely certain that the Rudy chant was complete fiction. (My mom had to leave 10 minutes early because the bookstore got swamped after games.) And so help me, to my mind the movie was over when Ned Beatty announced over the loudspeaker "MY SON'S GOING TO NOTRE DAME!" -- I feel like that would have made my dad's _life_ if any of his children went to Notre Dame like he did. Not that he had anything against Nassau Community College and SUNY-New Paltz...

The real Story is even better Rudy! Joined the Navy During Vietnam was a great boxer in his weight class, even in high school he was all conference Just undersized, he was a good wrestler Differences.. His best friend was killed in an oil refinery fire rather than a steel company. Charles Dutton's Character was a composite (three different people). Rudy's Brothers back him 100 % ( more drama for the film) Rudy did live in a maintenance closet. The New Coach Dan Devine really liked Rudy and wanted him to play ( he had said this in an interview) One guy gave up his spot for Rudy to play. Sean Astin's step-father, John Astin, is famous for playing Gomez Addams in the 1960s TV show, Addams Family. More interestingly - at least to me - he was a professor of arts, and head of the drama department at his alma mata, The Johns Hopkins University from 2001until he retired in 2021 at age 91!

I'm a 62 year-old American woman with absolutely no interest in sports, but I love an engaging movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching your reaction to this one. Subscribing.
I’m going to love seeing your reaction to Moneyball and Ted Lasso, and I’ll check out your playlists for other films.
Treebeard, that’s hilarious. Sounds like you need to watch The Lord of The Rings.

Had the privilege of growing up in northern Indiana. I’ve visited the beautiful campus a number of times and have family and friends that actually studied there. Even though I haven’t been ‘home’ in many years, watching ND on Saturdays gives me a taste. It all makes this great film all the more special to me.

And I live 2 minutes from the campus

I love this movie! I cry at the end every time. I've been in those situations my whole life. I'm a small guy born with Cerebral Palsy. The disability effects my right arm and leg so I'm basically one handed and have a limp. I really didn't have anyone believe in me but I loved playing basketball anyway. I always had to fight my way onto the court to play wherever I was. What people found out was I might be short and slow but I was able to shoot 60% from the 3 point line shooting with one hand and jumping off my one good leg.
