The modern idol I see today is social media, ie Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.

MAGALIE SINTUS yea I completely agree. A lot of times we idolise others or the image of ourselves we put online.

This was so good. I am praying daily to never make marriage an idol and not center my happiness around it. This was a great reminder the one thing we should desire the most is Jesus and we should love nothing greater than Him.

As someone with multiple disabilities I struggle the most with fighting against ableism, the right to be accepted by able bodied people. In reality it doesn't matter what people think. When I remember God loves me unconditionally and has allowed my issues for good I am at peace. Having said that I tend to turn to other idols for comfort rather than the Word. Food, tv, social media even spending time with my cat can be a hindrance. I REALLY WANT to learn how to practically overcome these things.

Comfort food is a big one for me too! God wants us to find our comfort in Him. Learning discipline with food is also helpful as obedience in the small things helps with obedience in the larger things. I am definitely struggling with you with the food thing!

And Satan finds those idols of ours and goes to town with them, making us feel there is no hope. But there is hope and Jesus is that hope, praise the Lord

Tim, The fact the we know our struggles and are confessing them openly to God and this medium, is a step in the right direction...⬆️. Let’s begin praying for one another to break the cycle, by seeking Him to know why we need those gaps filled with these idols...one day at a time. Be well. 🙏🏾

When the question about "What is the thing in life that if I lost it, life wouldn't be worth living anymore?" was asked the answer came immediately--my husband. We've been together for almost 40 years--the longest, most unconditional loving relationship I've ever had. He's 11 years older than I am--he's 81. Lately, my mind has been tormented with the thought of losing him--I imagine myself finding a way to not live. I never thought of that I was making him an "idol", but I know that it's not healthy or showing much faith to allow these thoughts to become a stronghold of fear in my heart.

When things get tight financially (always) I have to remind myself that money isn't going to save us, God is. When my husband apologises that the checks aren't big enough I have to remind him that the work is his part, the provision is God's and God's provision is always enough. It is difficult to grasp in this world, but anything you rely on that isn't God is something you have put before Him and therefore value over Him. As Charles Stanley says you can't take care of yourself or amass enough stuff or money to take care of you because you can't even know what you are going to need. God knows you, He knows the future, and He knows His plan - He will work it all together for the good of those who love Him. (Roman's 8:28) God bless you all today 🙏🙂❤

My idols use to be my husband and kids. I use to think that if God took them away it would not be able to live. However, when I came upon sickness and other struggles I realized that I would be in front of Jesus by myself one day. Idols are whatever you put in front of God. GOD should always be on the TOP of the priority list.

Video games, I’ve used them as a crutch since I was little. It feels like a piece of me is getting ripped away when I try to quit them

An Idol of exercise. My whole life I have struggled to feel loved and when that love is lacking for me I tend to turn to it. Jesus is teaching me that his love is so much greater than the love attention could ever give me. He is so good

I find that, even in knowing God and wanting to truly please Him, I place those things He’s gifted me , sometimes above Him. My marriage, and the striving to make it better, sometimes gets in the way of sitting still to let God do the work. I justify it by using the scripture in Proverbs the woman not eating the bread of idleness. I know, out of context, but hey it sounds biblical at the time. Also, with raising my children, I came become so consumed with trying to “train them up” God’s way, that I forget to ask Him how he wants me to handle, think, listen, decide, or move at times with them. Then once I get a peace in myself (from myself) and it begins to get challenging...then I want to go back to God and say SHOW ME YOUR WAY LORD! Backwards religion...”but He knows my heart”, right? ....Uh huh..help me God get off the religious hamster wheel . Thank You Lord for Your new mercies and opportunities to put You first. Remove the tendencies I have formed idol worship and idle power.

An opinion may help my issue. I’m an ATV driver and I like riding around the LORD’s Creation on fourwheelers. I find the variety of models of ATVs interesting, and I’m excited whenever I can go riding, sometimes solo or with friends. I thank the LORD Jesus for being able to see so many beautiful natural things that He created, and I’m thankful for being able to have fun, but, seeing as I do get pretty excited about going riding, and I discuss it frequently amongst my friends (not without thanking GOD for the great memories made and the sights seen), would this be considered an idol?

I have absolutely 0 None,Nothing that I idol. God gave me my Sobriety over 7 years ago now and He also gave me my Children back into my Life, He gave me back my Driving privilege and nice Vehicle to Drive and Now a good job. If God took all that away from me right now,I'd still have Jesus. That's the only thing in my life that I idol.

What do you do when you love your relatives more than God? How does anyone choose to let their relative die over God who you have never seen before or known? It doesn't seem practical or possible. In the bible there is this story about Abraham, he also most sacrificed his only child because God told him to do so but it doesn't seem likely he would have been able to do so if he hadnt seen or heard God in the first place. Abraham is the same person who lied about Sarah being his sister and yet fully aware God wouldn't have been pleased with that. My point being i dont think its possible to follow any of the 10 commandments without some sort of assistance. If God himself doesn't step in then there is no hope of being a Christian and we can forget about heaven.

Your deduction is right. But it's also incomplete. That's the entire point of the gospel. Jesus died for our sins, and rose again, and gave us the engine of our new saved life: THE HOLY SPIRIT. The Holy spirit is the assistance of every believer to live above sin. God already provided in Christ, the assistance we need to live above sin. That's why we rejoice and give glory to Jesus. It's also why we ask the Holy spirit to help us. You can read Romans 8 to get the full picture. Hope this helps. God bless you
