Thank you all so much for joining!!
And with that… we are only 22 hours away from our next stream!!
See you all…. Real Soon!
Gogo or Nakajima island, short ferry from Matsuyama
I hear you about the beach. I'm a mountain person, too.
lived 26yrs by beach i love the forest and nature and hills gorges and waterfalls ... more than beach but i do like water lakes and more waterfalls
Hi Norm--enjoying this excellent walk as usual--Those crows were "mobbing" that Murder Chicken--its a protective group behavior they indulge in when a raptor is present in the environment--we see it often where I live--as both species are in this area--kinda weird and funny to see but it effectively chases off the predators--love the new video--keep em coming! Merlyn ( ATX)
Watched it on the treadmill at the gym. Really enhances the experience and instills one with an appreciation for the sheet amount of cardio you do on a day to day basis.
Thanks for another adventure, old friend. You're an inspiration to us all!
Man I love this channel and the trips you take us on! Keep em coming please 🙂
I like this japan walk content
Just 1.3 meters above sea level is crazy.
*Laughs in Dutch*
I will tell you this. I could live in Japan and do backstreet exploring the entire time. In fact when I lived there in the 90s that is all I did. There was no internet. I have a 35mm camera and that was it. I would go out for 15 hour walks exploring Sasebo or other little cities. When I go back to Japan I get up super early and do this every day.
Please look for the fancy shrines of Shikoku, just like to know what fancy jinja are down there.
Love watching your live streams & videos.
Im bringing my son (13) over in march next year. Can i bribe you with some Sour Patch kids for a meet up 😉
Ive learned so much from watching you, thanks for sharing your knowledge 😊
Xx from Australia 🇦🇺
I'm hoping to catch at least one Live-stream. Tomorrow is Friday, so I'll be able to have a different sleep schedule for a couple nights. Please be careful. You need to rest. Don't overdo it. You run the risk of lowering your immune system. If I could read Japanese, I would know exactly where you are. Oh, wait, no, I'm WATCHING the Live. 😅 Yes, the school was awesome! Shrine! All right. You don't need to read a long comment and I'm going to enjoy this semi-Live. Love from the Southern California desert. 🎉❤
Maybe you can stop by Ōboke Gorge on your way too or from Ehime!
Commenting right after you finished streaming. One thing that comes through every time is the sheer joy you are having at exploring and finding places. It's great to experience that by proxy.
I agree, his joy is palpable, infectious and I'm here for it!
Alos, I can't stop looking at all the ppowerlines etc etc running well, everywhere. We just keep almost everything underground in the Netherlands.. Amazing...
I see no problems with a 2+ hour vlog bring it on i double dare you
I love exploring Japanese back streets and love a good sunny, early morning stroll. The guys raking the sand!! Wow. I miss Japan and the incredible way people do their work with such care.
i love awaji. one of my favorite trips visitng all the Tadao Ando sites. Also, Best burger i've ever had right outside a children's farm. I hope you've seen the water temple. Burger here: Awaji Country Garden
That ending.... You dirty dog you.
I love the cleanliness and neatness in their backlanes❤
Lots of subtle one way streets in this area, but lovely in its everyday retro simplicity. You know I'm here for the long form content. 1 hour, 2, or more, it's always awesome. Awaji is on my list, but I haven't visited yet. Part of that I'm definitely going to have to live there and spend time adventuring map. Safe travels and hope you continue to have an amazing time 💜✌️🐦
Bring on the long video.
The flower you stopped to look at early on - That was Thistle, I think. It's the national flower of Scotland. Cool to see one of those in Japan!
I agree, looked like a thistle. They're very popular in midwestern USA as well.
@@findingbalance7884 oh nice, I didn’t know that!
"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere." - Norm
Norm: that's an unfortunate name
Commode 56: We changed it.
Norm: You changed it... to Commode 56?
Commode 56: Yeah, used to be s***house.
I don't understand what's wrong with commode, but Karate in the forest, heck yeeeah!
Have you or would you consider Hokkaido? Maybe some distant hard to get to tiny island?
I know about the scavenger hunt, but have never seen the video or anything about it.
I like both ocean and mountain. Love snorkeling. So calming and beautiful. Otherworldly. Not a fan of sand. Darth Vader like that way, I guess. I was on a beach on Vancouver Island last year, though, and the waves coming in was like...hypnotic. Put me into a trance.
Mountains? Love hiking. Views, and forests, and clouds. Love it. If I had to choose one over the other...
Probably mountain. Yeah. I'm with you.
Fun hanging out with you again. Thanks!
I think it was you that helped me found my absolute love of the Japan back alleys. It's a difficult feeling to describe when you're walking down them, but I absolutely love it. So many little things to see and do. The only thing better is to do it in the rain. Thanks again Norm for this one.
1:08:00 Hailing from upstate New York, trees and hills are a must for me. I am trying to pick up small boat sailing, so lakes are an increasingly acceptable pastime.
Yes, I'm tardy, but I have successfully emerged from the internet.
Thank you for what you do, Norm! So I take it no Okinawa for you on another trip? Guessing not a place for you, as you are not a beach person.
Keep doing what you do, love it!
Chris from Seattle
Loving the livestreams, I keep missing them live. It’s great seeing these Japanese communities up close. Is it possible that sign means Com Mode? I’ll join Karate in the forest.
Thank you for your never ending energy and enthusiasm Norm. I find myself lost in your world of wanderings. So love it all. Thank you for introducing myself and many others to these magical places. I would really appreciate you reading some of the signages and big banners as you walk about. The signs and notices at the shrines etc. Just the main entry ones would be appreciated. The odd sign or shop etc not in english. Thank you. Stay safe and happy 😊 love from Australia 🦘❤
Stop talking when you switch screens. It cuts you off and leaves us guessing what you said. Love from So Cal desert. 🎉❤
Enjoying these streams, thank you for allowing me to visit places I am not able to visit in person.
I'm wondering if the people worried about Norm walking alone are women who are used to living in not particularly safe places and know that having someone with you can avoid trouble. This is probably most important to women in places where personal injury type crime is prevalent.
Or maybe even avid hikers who practice the buddy system and always hike with a friend because when you're in the wilderness far from people and especially without cell service, in case of illness, dehydration, injury, or getting lost having a partner can be life saving. That's probably less important when you're only on the outskirts of a town or in a reasonably populated place.
I'm totally unfamiliar with Japan, the culture, or the customs. I'm surprised that no one stopped you to ask you what you were doing, walking through residential areas at 5:00 in the morning. Living in the states, it seems a strange thing thing to do.
Hey Norm a mens 27.5 or 28 Japan is a mens US11 American size is the most universal sizing.
even though i can't catch these live, the posts on here bring me so much joy in the mornings when i start work - especially a morning backstreets walk like this! something something escapism... as always, thanks for bringing us along and stay safe! ^w^
I’m with you on Mountain over ocean. When I visited Kauai several years ago, I spent more time hiking than I did at any of the dozens of beaches.
Thanks for the entertaining video. I learned so much and I really need to visit Japan again. The last time was in 2017 so I am way overdue.
That’s Sumoto, I’ve walked on that shoreline
Hi Norm!!
Lovely joining your adventures again :3
Do you have a goshuincho for the lesser known temples you've visited?
That vending machine seems like a psyop - try this treat, you can't get it here ... Come to blahblah town, you can eat it every day.
Loving these videos playing catchup with them. 👍🏼
thank you very much for getting up so early! beautiful sunrise🌅
I remember our recent experience in Wakayama where we were interviewed by NHK about tourism in Wakayama 😂
Great vid as always , any desire to visit a Jazz Vinyl cafe ? Hoping to hit a few of those joints when I visit japan in July.
Couldn't catch it live but here am I, thanks for the streams Norm, keep it up
THIS WAS 5AM????
Awesome livestream Norm. You always never disappoint us with all the awesome and amazing places you explore and I prefer the mountains over the beaches can’t wait for the next adventure. Thanks for letting us ride along and you on your adventures.
Thanks for the stream!
I'll admit, I think I like the mountains a little more than the ocean :)
Norm, your never ending secret endings are a HOOT!!! They make my day by cracking me up. 😅 You SIR... are a genius. Thank you.
Important question. where are the 55 other Commodes?
This place is definitely going on my bucket list
Aw man I missed one, better late than never though ^-^
If i am a beach or mountains person. I will say both .
In 1983 I have been in Wakajama (Noto)
amazing how quite the streets are at 5am,
Clearly didn't meet a Mermaid yet.
Our home town Awaji 😊
Another fun one! Thank you!
Good morning, from Germany,
Definitely enjoying the streams. Thanks for taking us along Norm.
Looks like a painting
Now I need a nap, Norm...
please get more sleep.
Eiheiji
Yay!! Sheri!!!🎉❤
❤❤❤
Good morning!!
Commode 😂 oh my
I've been here. It's so lovely - I want to visit again :)
my favourite find was a shrine where you can pray not to go bald and it was sponsored by barbers and hair loss treatment companies, brilliant!
Loved the video. As always with the secret endings! Love that for us. Missed that. So Norm of you to do! Lovely video. The beach was lovely. The streets were lovely. Even the hawks were lovely. I even learned a group of hawks can be called a Kettle of Hawks.
1,000,000 Second Adventure: Part 4
Some of my favorite adventures of yours, are classic alleyway/thin road adventures. This was so refreshing feeling ~
Edit: I really don't understand how pausing your video at any point, looks like a movie. This has flabbergasted me for 4ish years now
I was the 1000th like!
This place was so beautiful, Norm! I love Japanese coastal towns/island vibes.
What a wonderful ,morning walk. And SO grateful you took us to the ocean for a brief while (yes, I'm one of those 'ocean people' you mentioned ;3). It made my day sooo much better.
i just want to say thank you for being my background noise as i do a 12-hour crunch on a game dev project for my course, i love these VODs and they have legit keep my silly ADHD brain on task
My friend got me into Goshuin collecting whilst I was in Japan, so whenever I watch your streams and you go into shrines I'm always looking out for the Goshuin booth lol. Loved watching the stream live, can't wait to hopefully catch some more!
Thank you Norm for the stream. Shoutout to my wife Joy. Advance Happy Mother's day. ❤
I keep missing the live streams, but I love watching these as I work. Reminding me why I'm working, saving to come visit 😍
The place where I stayed at in Osaka was in a back alley very much like this. I enjoyed walking around them and seeing little things that made each house unique and enchanting.
Good morning Norm!!! Thanks for taking us along the backstreets of this cozy little 町
Finally able to chill out and watch your stream. Love back alleys in any "old country"
It's been a great adventure so far, looking forward to what comes next!
Thanks for the stream Norm! Looking forward to your secret guest tomorrow.
Really refreshing walk! The zen garden-like area was fascinating to watch
This one was a backstreets galore...which is always awesome, with the dragon shrine and a Norm story time which is always appreciated...Take care Norm...this was a treat to watch
Such a nostalgic house/shop at the end of the stream
Its rare that i manage to catch the live streams so was a really nice treat to be a part of this one, thanks Norm
Amazing
The fun thing with youtube VODs is that the viewer can choose when and how long they watch watch video. I've definitely taken long videos and split them up into my own schedule.
that's a what? 😂
Come to Kentucky! We have mountains and more 🏞
Don't know if someone has mentioned it here, but the older guy 'dragging' his poles when he was walking, its called Nordic Pole walking. Its an actual sport and is supposed to work out your arms, shoulders and core whilst walking. My brother broke a world record doing it and i remember when he was done he needed lots of cold baths and muscle therapy cuz he was just so overworked.
Are there any active volcanoes?
Suggestion for what to see in Shikoku: Hirome market in Kochi city!
Already did it!!!
The secret was, it was an ending!
why I'm not getting notified when you go live :(
Try turning the notifications off once
Then turn on “All” notifications
Then watch about 10-20 min of vids on the channnel
Boom! Should be fixed!
too quite, where is everybody.....
First, the word is “Quiet”
Second: are remote countryside towns in your country typically busy places at 5am? 🤔
