  • Ludington is a harbor town located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Pere Marquette River. It’s a harbor town rich with MARITIME history, and two lighthouses! Ludington is also the home port of the largest carferry to sail the Great Lakes. The S.S. Badger carferry makes its voyage from Ludington to Manitowoc, Wisconsin mid-May to mid-October. There are many Ludington beaches to discover! You’ll find miles of clean, sandy beaches along Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake. Stearns Park is the most popular beach, with FREE parking, concessions, playground.

I lived in Mason County, MI which is where Ludington is most all my life. As a teen we used to find someone to buy us some beer and head out to the west side of the lighthouse to drink and smoke cigarettes. We were as kewl as kewl can get! My parents grave marker has them holding hands at the beach with the breakwall and lighthouse in the background. This is a magical place to be. It is very different in the spring, summer, fall and winter. It is like no place I have ever been. Was engaged to a woman from Naples, Fl who commented while sitting at the beach in Muskegon, Mi where she said this looks like the ocean!. I told her that by definition the Great Lakes qualifies as an ocean with the exception there are no sharks, squids, jellyfish and the water can be consumed as it is salt-free.

We love the Ludington and Muskegon it is very pretty. My wife’s grandparents live in Whitehall. We enjoy visiting the area when we can. Thank you for telling us your story of when you were a teen. We also get family who say the same thing about the size of the lake when they visit. I have never stopped in Scottsville but have driven through it many times on my way into Ludington. I am happy that this brought back some nice memories. Have a great weekend. Thanks for watching.

@@RoamingMichiganTogetherFUN FACT about Ludington- did you see the movie "30mins or less"...? at 20:16 mark is the bank that gets robbed in that film.

My parents moved us to Scottville in May of 1966. Lived there for the following 28 years. Owned a home and business and I keep returning even tho green pastures beckoned me. I am back living in the outskirts of Scottville and living more contempt than from anywhere else. Our local law enforcement keeps crime at a very low minimum and life is good in this simple country farm land. In fact, across the highway from where I live are soybeans as far as the eye can see! For you city people who have no idea, good luck. My heart is here in Scottville, MI which is around 8 miles or so from Ludington and Stearns Park. Our award-winning Ludington State Park is like no place you will ever see. Water, the Sauble river, a dam, etc etc etc.

Love 0ur Michigan..the OTHER COAST!! SO MANY uncrowed small towns, roads & beaxhes. Not much commercialization compared to other areas of the country. No crazy people, nudity, or othef such nonesense. Just families & other like minded folks enjoying what Mother Nature gave us.

You've provided a walking tour that seems to provides a good feel for the town. I've never been there but probably will in May. We plan to use the ferry to Manitowoc and beyond with our RV. Thanks for the preview.

Ludington is a wonderful, beautiful place.
But.... It's run by a bunch of stuck in the 1950s fuddy-duddys that are TERRIBLY CORRUPT. a WHOLE city block that contained a beloved old school building (that was totally functional) was recently sold to a "developer" for 20,000 dollars -- that is NOT a misprint. 20k bought an entire block with a 75,000 sq. ft. building on it . WTF..?
