It really pains me seeing L die 😭 he's my favourite character and one of my earlier anime crushes in anime, I love L!!! I also got my mum to watch DN and she was upset too, and thought it was a mistake the writer did she also thought there had to be a way to bring him back suggesting a life book, she's thinking DN is not the same with him gine and less fun.

To be fair he was a much better detective than he was a singer. He was fully aware his life would be endangered by investigating the Kira case. Doesnt make his death any less of a tragedy but at least he made the *choice* to risk it all for catching Kira, which is actually very noble.

Everyone hates Light because he killed L, but the truth is, Light didn't kill L. Kira did it. Kira took control over Light... as you can see at the end of the anime, that's not Light.. he then realized it when he was dying... he realized, what monster has he become.
i strongly disagree. I think at the end when light died on the stairs i think he maybe was realizing that his dream was too big and that he would've died anyway. Also it was confirmed that kira was not a evil entity but a human with a vision for the new world

Yes he did. He'd just developed a socially acceptable fake front like any psychopath... just to be revealed his true self when he got the right tool to act out without being catched. Not even once was Light portrayed as genuinely enjoying the company of his friends or family. He just overlooked everyone because of his IQ and because of he was the best in everything he did. He was completely bored before he found the notebook... and would have changed trillions of human lives to the thrill he got when he was finally able to judge everyone he saw so corrupted and imperfect compared to himself. And he seemed human on the stairs because of that's when you really saw him vulnerable and imperfect for the first time. But let's not forget, L was the exactly same ;) He did not care about humans either, but the thrill he got when he was able to solve the impossible cases. It was a game to both of them.

The reason I dont forgive light is letting his death go to waste by being to cocky. Light is way smarter than near, after L died it was all lazy writing.
Tbh since Light started killing people, I've hated him. The only people I think deserve to die are people who take the lives of the innocent. You rob someone? Jail. You kill someone? Death. Yes, he killed murderers, but he also took it too far and killed people who only commited minor crimes.

the fact that right before he shut his eyes you could just ~tell~ that he knew that he was right about Light being Kira all along. and that he knows that he can’t tell anyone about it now. you can see the pain of that realization on his face and now i’m sobbing.

Then after L investigated even more, he found out that Light is Kira but because he didn't want to hurt his sister's feelings, he pretends as if Light has a 0% chance of being Kira. A second Kira comes along but they found out that the second Kira was in America so they (meaning L, Light, L's sister and the other members of the SPK) booked a hotel room over there. One night, the SPK members, including Light, had to go out for some investigating leaving L and his sister in the hotel room. His sister went to bed early and L just continued on investigating. Later that night, L receives a text from Light saying that he'll be back earlier than the others. L then starts singing the song and enters his sister's room. He sits next to her on his bed and brushes her hair. He was crying but he kept on singing the song. He kisses her forehead and then leaves the room but to his surprise, Light was already back. L took a deep breath and sang that part where Light can take his life but his wish was to make his sister 'wake up' as in realize what a monster Light really is. Light, with an evil grin on his face, asked for his name. L kept quiet. Light asked again, but this time with the threat that he'll write his sister's name in the notebook. L told him his real name and Light wrote it down. Seconds later, he experienced a heart attack. What both of them didn't know was that L's sister listened to the conversation. She busted her bedroom door open and went to L. Now in tears, L's sister grabbed L's hand and continuously said 'no'. L, with the little bit of strength that he has left, sang to her, "to make her please, just one day wake." He smiled at her and passed away. His sister hugged him, knowing that he's never coming back, then she looked at Light with anger. At that moment, all the members of the SPK barged into the room. With a surprised look on his face, Chief Yagami asked the both of them what just happened. Light at the moment was trying to hide the notebook but luckily L's sister managed to snatch it from him. Long story short, Light was found guilty and he was sentenced to death. ~The End~
I know I'm late to the party, but I just found death note on Netflix and stayed up for almost 2 days with zero sleep watching all of it. I finished it about an hour ago and can't get over how sad I am. I haven't stopped crying. Lawliet is easily my favorite character, and this video, while amazing, made me cry even harder. SPOILER ALERT!!! I think the worst part about Light killing L is the fact that he acted like he cared. He tricked L into thinking he had a true friend for the first time, and L was genuinely happy about that. The moment they had in the rain right before L died showed how much Light was just starting to care about L, but the second his heart stopped beating, it no longer mattered that L was becoming his friend. Using L's happiness as a cover, pretending he truly cared about L enough to be outraged about his death truly shows how heartless Light is. It ultimately pissed me off when I watched it, and to this day pisses me off.
death note has so many talented voice actors who also happen to have lovely voices. alessandro juliani's voice is truly like no other, and this song specifically is probably one of the most haunting songs to ever come out of a tv show. on a more lighthearted note, there is also a cover of "love is an open door" by vincent tong and shannon chan kent, and you can 100% hear matsuda and misa singing it.
i came back to watch this on the last 5 minutes of L's birthday this year. happy birthday to my first (and obviously best) anime crush. you deserved better
When an important character dies, it's to make the reader/watcher connect with that character even more. When he's dead, we only then knew how much we loved that character. It gives us a stronger emotional bond. Beautiful...
The only things I know now is that it’s a high chance that L already knew that Light was Kira, the moment when he noticed the bells, he’d know he’d die, he’s actually depressed, since his parents died of a bombing, he’s been an orphan, Watari brought him to a place with other kids, maybe also smart, that’s where the bells are from. That must mean Watari is quite old, if you’d know L is 24 at the beginning of the series. L must’ve known Light was Kira ever since he heard about Light, or met him at first. He must’ve suspected him and just needed proof and evidence, there are moments when he tests Light, for example when he asked Light if Light wanted to follow L if L dies, but since Light wasn’t really “Kira” at that moment, he disagreed, but also the moment when L says that Light is his first friend, is fake I think he was just only saying that to see maybe a different reaction out of Light, maybe he wanted to give Light a last chance or something, what’s unlikely for L though, anyways.. L knew he’d die, and that moment when we saw the scène of him and Watari, and Watari asking what he’s doing there, I think L asked Watari to delete all the data if something happens to him, because I think he felt that he knew their end would be soon, (credits to Watari though, even if he got a heart attack [and is probably super old] he managed to delete the data!!) I also think the moment when L says that he wanted Light to be Kira was true, he wanted Light to be Kira maybe for 2 reasons, he would be right about Light being Kira, and because Light is really smart, just like L, and then it would be a real challenge. I can’t recall if this is all what I know, but yeah. Light and L are both really smart, but I’ve got to say L is way more smart, the only reason he got “fooled” is because he didn’t know the way Kira killed, he didn’t know how the Shiginami stuff worked (although I think he suspected the rule 13 days) Here’s some canon, L has had a Death Note before, but never used it (but read the rules), then he gave up on the Death Note and lost memory, when he saw the 13 days rule he got suspicious because somehow he can’t recall if that’s true or not. If you still end up reading this, congratulations you’ve made it to the end, but why did you read this all though? My opinion about L is that he’s really smart and a great character, he’s goofy, really sad that he’s depressed, but he can be strong too, when he fights, he’s a sweet tooth, awkwardly cute and dry funny, even though it doesn’t seem like a joke, it’s a really good one. It’s sad to see a great character like this die. Let’s pray our prayers for L Lawliet. :(

Imagine if Misa never existed and L had a sister who he cares so much for but before he met Light, his sister was actually dating Light. Then after L investigated even more, he found out that Light is Kira but because he didn't want to hurt his sister's feelings, he pretends as if Light has a 0% chance of being Kira. A second Kira comes along but they found out that the second Kira was in America so they (meaning L, Light, L's sister and the other members of the SPK) booked a hotel room over there. One night, the SPK members, including Light, had to go out for some investigating leaving L and his sister in the hotel room. His sister went to bed early and L just continued on investigating. Later that night, L receives a text from Light saying that he'll be back earlier than the others. L then starts singing the song and enters his sister's room. He sits next to her on his bed and brushes her hair. He was crying but he kept on singing the song. He kisses her forehead and then leaves the room but to his surprise, Light was already back. L took a deep breath and sang that part where Light can take his life but his wish was to make his sister 'wake up' as in realize what a monster Light really is. Light, with an evil grin on his face, asked for his name. L kept quiet. Light asked again, but this time with the threat that he'll write his sister's name in the notebook. L told him his real name and Light wrote it down. Seconds later, he experienced a heart attack. What both of them didn't know was that L's sister listened to the conversation. She busted her bedroom door open and went to L. Now in tears, L's sister grabbed L's hand and continuously said 'no'. L, with the little bit of strength that he has left, sang to her, "to make her please, just one day wake." He smiled at her and passed away. His sister hugged him, knowing that he's never coming back, then she looked at Light with anger. At that moment, all the members of the SPK barged into the room. With a surprised look on his face, Chief Yagami asked the both of them what just happened. Light at the moment was trying to hide the notebook but luckily L's sister managed to snatch it from him. Long story short, Light was found guilty and he was sentenced to death. ~The End~

I know I'm late to the party, but I just found death note on Netflix and stayed up for almost 2 days with zero sleep watching all of it. I finished it about an hour ago and can't get over how sad I am. I haven't stopped crying. Lawliet is easily my favorite character, and this video, while amazing, made me cry even harder.

I think the worst part about Light killing L is the fact that he acted like he cared. He tricked L into thinking he had a true friend for the first time, and L was genuinely happy about that. The moment they had in the rain right before L died showed how much Light was just starting to care about L, but the second his heart stopped beating, it no longer mattered that L was becoming his friend. Using L's happiness as a cover, pretending he truly cared about L enough to be outraged about his death truly shows how heartless Light is. It ultimately pissed me off when I watched it, and to this day pisses me off.

death note has so many talented voice actors who also happen to have lovely voices. alessandro juliani's voice is truly like no other, and this song specifically is probably one of the most haunting songs to ever come out of a tv show. on a more lighthearted note, there is also a cover of "love is an open door" by vincent tong and shannon chan kent, and you can 100% hear matsuda and misa singing it.

When an important character dies, it's to make the reader/watcher connect with that character even more. When he's dead, we only then knew how much we loved that character. It gives us a stronger emotional bond. Beautiful...
The only things I know now is that it’s a high chance that L already knew that Light was Kira, the moment when he noticed the bells, he’d know he’d die, he’s actually depressed, since his parents died of a bombing, he’s been an orphan, Watari brought him to a place with other kids, maybe also smart, that’s where the bells are from. That must mean Watari is quite old, if you’d know L is 24 at the beginning of the series. L must’ve known Light was Kira ever since he heard about Light, or met him at first. He must’ve suspected him and just needed proof and evidence, there are moments when he tests Light, for example when he asked Light if Light wanted to follow L if L dies, but since Light wasn’t really “Kira” at that moment, he disagreed, but also the moment when L says that Light is his first friend, is fake I think he was just only saying that to see maybe a different reaction out of Light, maybe he wanted to give Light a last chance or something, what’s unlikely for L though, anyways.. L knew he’d die, and that moment when we saw the scène of him and Watari, and Watari asking what he’s doing there, I think L asked Watari to delete all the data if something happens to him, because I think he felt that he knew their end would be soon, (credits to Watari though, even if he got a heart attack [and is probably super old] he managed to delete the data!!) I also think the moment when L says that he wanted Light to be Kira was true, he wanted Light to be Kira maybe for 2 reasons, he would be right about Light being Kira, and because Light is really smart, just like L, and then it would be a real challenge. I can’t recall if this is all what I know, but yeah. Light and L are both really smart, but I’ve got to say L is way more smart, the only reason he got “fooled” is because he didn’t know the way Kira killed, he didn’t know how the Shiginami stuff worked (although I think he suspected the rule 13 days)
Here’s some canon, L has had a Death Note before, but never used it (but read the rules), then he gave up on the Death Note and lost memory, when he saw the 13 days rule he got suspicious because somehow he can’t recall if that’s true or not.

My opinion about L is that he’s really smart and a great character, he’s goofy, really sad that he’s depressed, but he can be strong too, when he fights, he’s a sweet tooth, awkwardly cute and dry funny, even though it doesn’t seem like a joke, it’s a really good one. It’s sad to see a great character like this die. Let’s pray our prayers for L Lawliet. :(
