Thanks for sharing this great quality video. I'm sure every coin collector must have a magnifying glass in his/her drawer, it's one of the joys of coin collecting, also, paying attention on the details and understanding how these ancient coins were made will help to spot counterfeits

I like how ancient coin collecting also requires some knowledge in chemistry (especially w/ bronzes). This video kinda felt like a mini science lesson too :P
True! Silver and Gold arent really complicated, but once you get to the array of base metals that were used, it really opens up a whole lot of different effects, colors and reactions.

Each coin is a world on its own. Not just for their intricacies and the special circumstances of their minting, but also under which conditions did they travel in time to our days, making each piece unique! :)

Fantastic video, very well explained! The as of Agrippa though, was certainly not struck under Augustus, it is attributed to the reign of Agrippa's great-grandson Gaius (Caligula). Bronze disease is indeed a problem, but the color is very different: it is a pale light green green and comes out of the coin as a tiny-grain powder. Pitting is normally inactive.

I have a neat little AR denarius that isn't very well centered and it has a tooth mark where someone must have bitten the coin to check if it was soft silver....very little wear to the coin too.

Would you happen to have a video more on how the engravers engraved their coins and made such tiny details? I'm trying to make jewelry replicating the aesthetic of ancient numismatics, using oven bake clay as an engraving material. The tiny detail of some roman coins astound me, and I wish to replicate such beautiful details in my own work.
