  • Here is my review of the 3 Jack Richeson plein-air Easels I purchased.
I had built my own set-up in the past and it worked fine but after seeing these easels at NAMTA expo and seeing how nice they looked I decided it was time to try a professional set-up.

I still have my old paintbox that I modeled after yours from one of your books. These look much nicer, I will have to look into them...thanks so much for showing these!

WOW... now that I think about it, the one I built and put in my book all those years back is very similar to the design of this one pochade box... thanks for sharing!

Quick question: are the internal dividers on the supply palette box removable?

Put a canvas on the big easel. How sturdy is it?

Super sturdy, it locks into place really well and the whole tripod and easel is really sturdy...but I recommend you get a really sturdy Tripod is key...the box and panel holder are really well constructed.

As a woman who doesn’t do well figuring out mechanical things, I don’t understand how you attach the components to the top of the Siena tripod. I have the smaller palette that attaches to the tripod. Thanks for any enlightenment

Great but how do you use the quick release on the tripod?

Locate the pochade box mounting plate: Many tripods come with a removable mounting plate or quick-release plate. This plate is designed to connect your pochade box to the tripod securely.
Attach the mounting plate to the Pochade Box: Locate the mounting socket on the bottom of your Pochade Box. Align the holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the camera. Insert the screw that came with the tripod through the holes and tighten it using a coin, screwdriver, or the provided tool. Ensure that the mounting plate is firmly secured to the camera.
Attach the mounting plate to the tripod head: Locate the tripod head, which is the part of the tripod that allows you to adjust the Pochade Box position. Look for a mechanism that allows you to attach the mounting plate. It may be a clamp or a quick-release system.
For a clamp: Slide the mounting plate into the clamp until it clicks or locks into place. Some clamps may require you to tighten a screw or lever to secure the plate.
For a quick-release system: Align the mounting plate with the quick-release mechanism and lower it onto the tripod head. The mechanism should lock the plate automatically. Double-check that the plate is securely fastened.
Test the setup: Once the Pochade Box is attached to the tripod, gently shake it to ensure that it's securely connected. Adjust the tripod head to your desired angle or position.
Remember, different tripods and cameras may have slight variations in their attachment mechanisms. Always consult the user manuals of your specific tripod and camera for any additional instructions or precautions.
When I get some time I will try to make a video showing how I attach them to the 3 different tripods I have.

Will this setup work with a Siik tripod?

should work with any tripod that has a standard photo screw on attachment. I have a Silk tripod that it works with... I'm guessing that is the tripod you mentioned.
