This is very common in India . Here in the UK it happens too, with the older generation, or people who recently immigrated, but it’s hard for the girls when they see couples living happily with parents blessings, as is the case in Europe. This attitude perpetuates domestic abuse, particularly in arranged marriages where the husband has no real feelings for his bride. This is the main reason why love marriages are still discouraged; the mother in law has less control and support from her son when she ( undoubtedly) behaves outrageously . 😢
Hello, i don't think a DIL should treat their mother in law as their mothers, she already has her own mother she doesn't need another. Her mother is the one that carries her in her womb for nine months and endured the pain and her mother knows her very well more than anyone.🤷

By doing so, you can make a good stock of words that shall definitely help in enhancing your vocabulary, the strong way. You can make a diary to write the tough or newly seen words (that you read in the said newspaper) and also write their meanings beside them by consulting a dictionary... Hope it helps you.
