- Indian movie makers have been producing unlimited number of movies with romance genre. Be it the most respected director or a run of the mill movie maker, the core of the movie is always Romance. The actors like Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan or Salman Khan gave some of their career best hits in Romance Genre. Likewise the south cinema has been flooded with Romance as well.

You forget Bajirao Mastani and panipat.They just runied the image of Bajirao peshwa. He was one of the greatest warrior in maratha Empire.
I grown up listening the stories of panipat and the movie is just showcasing love between husband and wife, that's really dispointing.

It was a film based on Bajirao and Mastani. So they will show their love story, not the Character of Bajirao Peshwa
I felt injected romance and romantic song in Thani oruvan too. Jayam ravi and Nayans romantic duet song is to satisfy the audience need. 🙃
There are two things in Indian movies which i feel are forced. One is romance and the other, song and dance numbers. I usually skip songs while watching a movie unless it is really good to listen or has part of the plot in it.
@@jonathjames991 The song in Thanioruvan is quite beautiful track, but I think its not suited to that plot, instead forced to just satisfy the songs craving of audience 🙃
In Telugu movie Businessman too I felt that.
Yeah, you are right. On the bright side, those songs acted as a promo material, which in turn made it into a commercially viable movie and we getting a sequel is worth that inappropriate song placement!

Life after the marriage was portrayed in Akele hum Akele tum(inspired) hindi movie even though the movie was supported by big star cast the movie failed terribly in box office which clearly shows why the makers in that period showed hesitation to this
Indian movies are a mixture. It begin as a COMEDY MOVIE, progress as a LOVE STORY, Ends as an ACTION MOVIE with DRAMA and SONGs here and there.

I myself am such a sucker for romance and fluff but I have the intelligence to understand whether it is/isnt a needed aspect in the movies I watch. And sometimes I do think that such the movies should've done without the romance.
Romantic movies I enjoyed recently are 96, Dia, Colour photo and Malgudi Days - those movies showed love story very differently than the average romantic movies.
Romantic plug-ins in the movies Ondu Motteyya Kathe and Kirik Party transform the Hero in a very positive way.

Issue is not with the romantic films, instead of the so called romantic stories. Most of the Indian romantic films have relatively the same structure, 'a boy stalking a rich girl, and gets the girl' . Love is not always cute and fun.
96, In the mood for love, Pranayam, all these films shows different sides of love.
There are two things in Bollywood which if you use smarty , they can be profitable
One is love
The other is Shah Rukh Khan
The Tamil movie '96 was one of the very few movies that ended differently rather than the cliche 'Happily lived ever after' climaxes.

To be fair the romance at the beginning of Soorai Pottru was very generic and I did not liked it but later the romance became understandable and non generic.
I dont think it was romantic.it was more logical than most of romantic movies.

I don't know how many people would agree with me, but two malayalam films where I noticed that there were enough chances for a romance between the lead actors, but the film ended without mixing that element in it were Prithviraj starrer 'Arjunan Sakshi' and Dulquer salman starrer 'ABCD'.
In the climax scene of Arjunan Sakshi, when Ann Augustine comes to Prithviraj's office, I was expecting a love confession from her character when I watched the film for the first time. But actually that climax made me more happier. Even after going through so many challenging situations together, they remained good friends till the end. Same with ABCD too.
There are many other movies I would like to mention, but these two movies have really captured my attention for not having any traces of romance between the hero and the heroine. ❤

Kaithi Tamil movie with Karthi broke some notions by dropping “heroine” completely!!
Tamil sci-fi thriller '24' it was a great attempt..Suriya nailed it. but the romance,songs and comedies ruined the movie.. if this was a foreign movie,the director would give more importance to Aathreya(villain) than the hero and heroine of the movie..The run time of '24' is 165 minutes long bcoz of the 'Romance formula'.
If there was no songs in that movie it would've been superb
This kind of forced love angles often ruin an otherwise good film as they deviate(sometimes too much) from the main point the film is trying to make.
I am from Delhi but I believe south movies are much much better than Hindi movies. We don't get to see variety and versatility here. I love watching South movies than hindi movies.
Bollywood movies always produced some good movies but audience didn't accept it.
as a south Indian I watched good film that North Indians must take care of it but........
eg Ludo, Tappd, Badla, Article 15, and other underrared films like tappad, etc etc
South movies also have crappppp movies.

Geetanjali was one of my favourite movies! But nowadays many Telugu movies including the likes of Mahesh Babu and others have a lot of forced romance which just dampens the whole movie for me.

Adding romance in everything like aalu is just a timepass imo. Be it action or comedy or thriller or even the horror genre, they add totally unnecessary romantic scenes just to make the movie 2 or 2.5 hrs. Happens when you have little to offer in writing💁♂️. If you're planning to make a romantic movie then make a completely romantic movie na?
But honestly, in between those billions of karan johar type garbages, I think we do lack good romantic movies. As a late '90s kid I can say I've seen hardly three or four good ones... jaane tu, haasi toh phasi, bkb and veer zaara. Kabir singh... not exactly romantic but liked it for being a well made one. And I'm yet to understand why & what exactly the craze behind all the srk craps from the '90s. Believe me I'm yet to completely watch ddlj even after 4 or 5 attempts. Coz it just bores me to death every time🥴
I think some movies need Song & some don't . For example : Movies like Wednesday was Great even without a song , If such movie had a song it would have removed the connectivity we had up to that point of time . And some songs like Kannamma Kanvizhi From Ratsasan showed the pain the Hero felt at that time , & Finally Surya's Vaaranam Aayiram Along with Malayalam Actor Nivin Pauly's Premam Songs Matched the movies ( As it showed The Hero's Journey along with the song ) As it Not only showed Romance But Also Pain , Depression , Angry & Joy which are all common human emotions And brought the Connectivity in our life too . Therefore for it Up to the Producer & Director to decide whether to go with the Song or Not & Importantly Whether it would be able to connect with the Mass Audience . So that they could also Walk the Characters Path .

Genre is the category to which a movie belongs, sci fi, romance, comedy, action, etc sometimes a movie can have multiple genres other times they can focus totally on one genre. There are many sub genres which makes the part of movie culture.For example psychological thriller is a sub genre of thriller👍

In north 24 kaatham, fahad's character falling in love with swathi's character was totally unnecessary and made the realistically going movie into a cliché one.
I desperately wish we could see more of historical and historical fiction genre movies and shows without a dumb unnecessary love story forced into it.

If movies are made without love stories then women would have no role in it then directors have to think stories based around woman. I want to note that romance is a different aspect on how to display the society and its ways.
You can use romance to show how love is a problem and moral police and true loves conflicts in filims in short use it as the theme.
Second otherwise use it to satisfy the Audience and to fill the loopholes. Use it as a product.
Third use it as a shadow or a personality development of a individual to his goals.
We south indians have actually developed more maturity in filims 1 and 3 are the only reasons we use and minimum bogless filims use the 2nd one.
Well looking at bollywood you use the 2nd one as I said.
