    The Homeowners must have a piece of mind, knowing they just bought a lifetime shower.

    I tore out a 1974 shower and there was no backer board, no waterproofing and no leaks other than the slightest hint of mold on the shower pan liner. I highly doubt any of the foam based showers being built today would last anywhere near that long.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  Місяць тому

      @@MAGAMAN I absolutely agree that showers built from the turn of the century all the way through the 70s were done better because they were all floated, however it's a lot of work and guys died younger because of it... but I agree with you, I don't like foam showers

    I tore out a shower a few months ago it was the worst thing I've ever seen the amount of mold and hackery on this job was something. The pictures i have done even show how bad it was. You would be amazed if you saw them.

    So my contractor has my backer board in my pvc pan. Do i tell him to bring it up more? And if so how much higher up. I appreciate the help live your video and so informative. Thx so much.

      If he waterproofs the enire shower ( floor included ) then it wouldn't matter...but given a choice WHY have it in the pan ? I set mine about an inch from the mortar once it's poured.

      A fiberglass shower trey has a flange at the top…but that’s usually a a few inches above the bottom of the trey…quite a bit different than a tile floor where there’s a chance for the water to wick up…id say get rid of the fiberglass trey in my opinion…but budgets are a thing

    I wonder how many times they have resealed that marble or if they are aware of the maintenance that marble requires.

      @StarrTile  Місяць тому

      @mistersniffer6838 I'd have to ask my customer what the name is but basically it is 4x12 Carrara marble on walls and 3x3 hexagon marble on floor.... all of it from floor and decor

    Marble is not for showers! It’s too porous! I have a cleaning business and there’s is not one shower I have EVER came across that had any kind of marble in the shower that looked good after even a year!

    Sorry to say the initial install was absolute crap, no wonder it failed. But to put back in a rubber liner, I thought that system went out with the ark?
    We have used the Schluter shower system for over 20 years, we have never had one fail, it is guaranteed 100% bullet proof if installed correctly.
    The bathroom vanity counter doesn't match the shower stall, as does the floor tile, looks like a hotch potch of different looks, akin to patchwork quilt.
    The whole thing should have been ripped out & done properly

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  Місяць тому +1

      I didn't use a rubber liner, I used Kerdi because of the outside two 45 corners...plus I waterproof the mortar surface & walls, so it's functional without tile.
      Schluter is overkill, expensive, and proprietary with all their products must be used with the other, so I don't use it, except for Kerdi, it has it's purpose for me.
      Insofar as looks & matching, it's out of my hands, customer makes decisions, regardless/despite what I advise.

    Looks awesome, just not a fan of the knee wall tile…would have been sweet to use the same material as the curb…side question…what’s your opinion on using the Deco SG recessed for the shower glass?

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  Місяць тому

      @travlangley1 although I would have preferred to use the curb material for the knee wall, it would have been impossible without rebuilding the kneewall because of the parameters I had to work with on the glass measurement..curbtop 3/4" thick plus thinset.
      I'm sorry I cannot answer your question about Deco SG because I'm not familiar with it, the glass is always contracted out to somebody else

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  Місяць тому +2

      Well as I said there were a lot of different things the guy did wrong, but even if he did everything right the pre-slope would not help...and you can't clog them, unless you put spacers, rocks, or caulking in them
