Interesting to watch this Sir Lankan crew slowly and very carefully do all this by hand. Here in the U.S., they would most likely be using bucket trucks (and fewer people). Of course, the Sri Lankan metal latticework tower solution is likely more elegant and durable than single wood poles. Others mentioned that the Sri Lankan crew did not tie themselves off to the tower; this would stir controversy here in the U.S. Of course, that latticework, with slanted cross-bracing, looks like it would be hard on the feet and legs. Still, the metal towers would be a superior solution (structurally). Also interesting that the Sri Lankan crew replaced the suspension insulator set with another one just like it. Utilities I see usually replace porcelain-and-steel-cap dead-end insulator strings (called "potheads" or "bells") with all-in-one polymer-on-fiberglass rod insulators that are narrower and much lighter. (They also bounce when dropped).
Thanks for your comments, Wooden poles are rarely used in SL considering termite and decaying problems prevailing in country's tropical climate. As you can see these men have had their safety belts fastened with the tower.
